Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of Nov 8, 2002 issue (Update of the Nov 7, 2002 issue): Myra Elizabeth REECE, daughter of Pate and Cora (DAVENPORT) DILLARD, born in Mull, Arkansas on April 28, 1917, passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2002 at Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home, Arkansas. Charles HILL, her husband and father of her children, her parents, and her brother, Russel, preceded her in death. Her husband Jack REECE of Mull, a son Charles (Sonny) HILL, a daughter June Carol NIX, her brother John DILLARD and sister, Doretha SHIPMAN, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren survive her. She was a member of the Mull Church of Christ. She and her husband, Jack lived the past twelve years very happily in Mull. Myra was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. Her caring and support of her family were always first in all that she did. Following graduation from Yellville-Summit High School in 1936, she attended business school. She worked as a secretary at the Jacksonville Ordinance Plant during World War II and then managed Buffalo River State Park with her husband from 1945 until 1956. She completed her career as the Assistant Purchasing Agent for the Arkansas State Military Department, serving from 1956 until 1980. Upon retirement, she returned to Mull where she lived until her death at age eighty-five. Visitation was held Thursday, November 7, 2002 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home in Yellville. Funeral services were held Friday, November 08, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at Burns Funeral Home in Yellville with Doyle DAVENPORT officiating. Burial followed in the DeSoto Cemetery in Yellville. Pallbearers were Niklas HILL, Matt SHROYER, Alan NIX, Jason NIX, Junior SHIPMAN, Wesley SHIPMAN, Byron SHIPMAN and Joe REESE. Mrs. JOHNSTON was born August 21, 1926 at Flippin, Arkansas to Gus Leonard and Lalah Bethel SANDERS MCCRACKEN. In September 1947, she married Rudy JOHNSTON. Mrs. JOHNSTON was a retired bookkeeper for Baxter Lab where she was employed for 24 years. She was a lifetime resident of Marion County, member of the Flippin Christian Church and an avid fan of North Central Arkansas Speedway. Survivors include her husband, Rudy of Flippin, AR; sons, Phillip JOHNSTON and wife Cathy of Flippin, AR and Dick JOHNSTON and wife Liz of Flippin, AR; daughter, Mary Jane ERWIN and husband Tommy of Flippin, AR; four grandchildren, Renee DUROW and husband Michael, Joey JOHNSTON, Dusty JOHNSTON and wife Katie, and Dylon JOHNSTON; two step-grandchildren, Travis TIPTON and Rachel TIPTON; and one great great-granddaughter, Katelyn DUROW. Mr. TERRY was employed as an assembler for Ranger Boat Company for 17 years. He resided in the area for the past 26 years moving from Quartz Hill, CA. He was a member of Sovereign Baptist Church in Summit, AR. He was Vietnam veteran. Survivors include his wife, Grace TERRY of Yellville, AR; son, Philip Lewis TERRY II of Yellville, AR; daughter, Kimberly Dawn TERRY of Yellville, AR; brothers, Gilbert TERRY of Springfield, MO, Marvin TERRY of Garden Grove, CA and Kenneth TERRY of Hemet, CA; and sisters, Trudy MATLOCK of Harrison, AR, Shirley WALLACE of Phoenix, CA and Evelyn GROSSI of Lancaster, CA. Memorial service will be at a later date at Woodlawn Cemetery in Chicago, IL. Joseph PICHA died Thursday, November 7, 2002 at his residence. He was born January 31, 1925 to Joseph F. and Marie S. SLAVICKOVA PICHA. He married Bessie NOVY-SLIVA on June 22, 1988 at Lakeview, AR. He was a carpenter for Jewel Companies in Melrose Park, IL for 31 years. He was a resident of Lakeview, AR since moving from Westchester, IL in 1988. He served in the US Army Signal Corps during WWII. He was a member of the Czechoslovak Society of America. He is survived by his wife, Bessie PICHA; two sons, Bob PICHA of Elmhurst, IL and Jerry PICHA of Woodridge, IL; grandchildren, Robert PICHA, Jr, Andrew and Ruth PICHA of Elmhurst, IL; stepchildren, Paul M. SLIVA of LaGrange Park, IL and Roger F. SLIVA of Yucipa, CA; four step-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren; niece, Sandra and a nephew, Michael. She was born June 12, 1923 at Rush Springs, Oklahoma to Vernie and Winifred SOUTHWARD FLORY. She was a Tool and Die Maker who worked for Joliet Wrought Washer for 35 years. Ms. Fischer lived in the Mountain Home area since 1999 moving here form Duncan, Oklahoma. She is survived by two sons, Robert W. FISCHER of Mess, AZ and Albert FISCHER of Joliet, IL; daughter, June E. WYSS of Mountain Home, AR; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was a parts locator for LeTourneau Westinghouse in Peoria, Ill for 26 years. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He was a resident of Flippin, Arkansas since moving from Peoria, IL in 1976. He is survived by three daughters, Sandra OSMAN and husband Ted of Peoria, Linda GUTHRIE and husband Jack and Cathy BUSH and husband Jim both of Bartonville, IL; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Mr. TUTT had been a resident of Marion County since 1981 moving to the area from Aurora, Illinois. He was a member of the Yellville First United Methodist Church. He was a World War II veteran serving with the United States Navy in the South Pacific. His parents and three brothers, Forrest, LuVerne and Robert TUTT, preceded him in death. A memorial service was held Wednesday, November 20, 2002 at Yellville First United Methodist Church with Reverend Charles G. ASHCRAFT officiating. Burial was private. Jean WOLVERTON died Monday, November 18, 2002 at her residence. She was born June 24, 1928 at Morning Sun, IA to Thomas Russell and Sylvia LATHROP BRAS. She married Dale WOLVERTON on December 8, 1950 at Nashua, IA. She was machine operator for Eagel Signial Airospace for 13 years. She was a resident of Bull Shoals, AR since moving from Rock Island, IL in 1979. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post #1341, and a member of the Bull Shoals United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband; daughters, Sherry SHRAKE of Rock Island, IL and Lisa ALES and husband Chris of Moline, IL; son, Micheal WOLVERTON of Underwood, IA; two granddaughters; and two grandsons. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Ozarks. She was born on September 14, 1975, daughter of Roger and Janice DUFFY of Yellville, AR. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Gordon and Evelyn STANLEY of Pyatt and Ray DUFFY of Yellville and one uncle, Terry DUFFY of Yellville. Ginger is survived by her parents; one sister, Pauline MILLER and husband Adam of Springfield, MO; one brother, Stanley DUFFY of the United States Marine Corps and wife, Jessica; grandmother, Margie DUFFY of Yellville; a very special friend, Justen MILLER; two aunts, Lois SHELTON of Fairview, TN and Patricia CLINKINGBEARD of Jordan, AR; and three uncles, Doug STANLEY of Webster Grove, MO, James STANLEY of Cabot, AR and David Duffy of Yellville, AR. She graduated from Yellville-Summit High School in 1993 and attended North Arkansas Community College and the University of Central Arkansas. She received many academic scholarships and achievements. She will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched. Visitation was held Friday, November 22, 2002 at Burns Funeral Home in Yellville. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of November 28, 2002 issue: L.C. "Tommy" TOMPKINS of Flippin, Arkansas died Saturday, November 23, 2002 at the Twin Lakes Nursing Center in Flippin. He was 81. Mr. TOMPKINS was born July 27, 1919 at Bluff City, Arkansas the son of Luther Franklin and Dalma Novie BYRD TOMPKINS. On October 3, 1942, he married Alice Lucille IRWIN. Mr. TOMPKINS moved to Flippin from Memphis, Tennessee in 1976. He was a member of the Flippin Christian Church. Mr. TOMPKINS entered the service on March 15, 1939, serving with the U.S. Army until his discharge as a Technical Sergeant in July 1945. He reentered the service in April 1947 and served with the Chemical Corps as a Master Sergeant until October 1950 at which time he was ordered to active duty as a second lieutenant. During World War II, he participated in the Normandy, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace and Central European Campaigns. After more than 20 years of active service, Mr. THOMPKINS retired on March 1, 1961. During his service in the U.S. Army, Mr. THOMPKINS received a Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Easter Campaign Medal with 4 bronze service stars, WWII Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal (Germany), National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserves medal and Combat Infantryman Badge. Survivors include his wife, Lucille TOMPKINS of Flippin, AR; daughters, Gloria Eileen THOMPKINS SKEETERS of Flippin, AR and Patricia Lynn MCCLUSKY of Memphis, TN; half-brother, James TOMPKINS of Jacksonville, AR; half-sisters, Vera GRAY and Margie KELLEY both of Jacksonville, AR and Ann TOMPLINS POWELL of Waco, TX; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. His parents, two brothers and one great-grandchild preceded him in death. Visitations was held Monday, November 25, 2002 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home. Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 26, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at the Flippin Christian Church with Russ DUNHAM officiating. Burial followed in the Flippin Cemetery with Ron PROCTOR, Paul JOHNSON, Doyle LINCK, Ernie BUSCH, Chris WADE and Brandon LIKES serving as pallbearers. Born January 15, 1944, in Smackover, he was the son of Spencer I. CALLOWAY and Nannie Kate MCKNIGHT CALLOWAY. Mr. CALLOWAY was an attorney in El Dorado and represented several south Arkansas counties in juvenile law. He was a member of the Union County and Arkansas Bar Association and was of the Baptist faith. He was a graduate of Smackover High School, SAU Magnolia and the University of Arkansas Law School. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Delorie CALLOWAY, and one grandson, Jeremy MCELYEA. Survivors include two daughters Katie CHANDLER and husband Blake of Lakeview, Ark., and Jamie MCELYEA of Lubbock, Texas; four brothers, John W. CALLOWAY and wife Dorothy of Smackover, Fred M. CALLOWAY and wife Shirley of Liberty, Texas, Jerry S. CALLOWAY and wife Barbara of Longview, Texas, and Michael L. CALLOWAY and wife Adrian of San Antonio, Texas; one sister, Genevieve C.
