Welcome to Marion Co AR banner

Marion Co's Gold Star County award

Thanks for stopping by Marion Co, Arkansas' Genealogy spot on the web.

I am Jeana Parker Houghton, the current host of this website. I do not live in Marion Co, but my parents and their ancestors were born and raised here going back to the 1850's. I spent nearly every summer here as a child and have visited my relatives still living here many times as an adult. I came to be hosting this site by fate I suppose.

Back in the late 1980's I found this site needed a host. I did not have the skills but I had met the perfect person who did…Linda Haas Davenport. Linda did not live in Marion Co, but she did have ancestors from this area and she had computer skills. Little did I know that she also had a wealth of knowledge regarding research and genealogy…BONUS! Linda created and maintained this site for almost 30 years. In June 2020, she reached out to ask me if I would take over and she would stay on to help. I agreed. I thought I would have years to learn from her. Sadly, Linda passed away unexpectedly April 4, 2021.

Words cannot express all that Linda gave to anyone researching Marion Co, Arkansas via this website. She would want everyone to know that she did not do it alone. She insisted on listing some special contributors on the home page when she turned it over to me and in honor of her, I will use her words…Mysty McPherson, Rhio Gills, Jeana Houghton, Julie Predmore, Gladys Brown, Charline Rambaud, Diane Sutton, Hollie Poley, Rita Wallace, Kay Speaks, Wilma Younger, Barb McEntire, Max Parnell and so very many others. Last but not least, there are all of the wonderful people who contributed photos, family histories, stories and other bits & pieces. It's all these people who made the Marion Co website the super wealth of information it is today. If you find something of value here on the site it's because so many people helped.

Linda will be missed by so many. She was an amazing woman and friend. I don't know when/if her personal websites will be taken down, but after you've browsed the Marion County site, stop by Linda's Home Page Linda's Home Page where she offers you a lot of information on things like census records, military records, etc.
