HAND, LACK posted by Mountain Echo Newspaper on Monday, June 11, 2001

Mountain Echo Newspaper, Yakima Valley (Wash.) News by Frankie Seay, Week of June 21, 2001 issue: I was sorry to hear of the death of Helen (HAND) LACK. She lost her sight a few years ago but still tried to write me. She first wrote in August 1998, telling me how much she enjoyed reading about people in this column and after that she usually had someone write for her, but she kept in touch and sent me pictures of herself that I have in my "Echo Album." I never knew her, just from reading her letters, but I know some of her family here, the late Levy HAND and his son John, and they thought a lot of Helen. She told me in her first letter that she had lived in the same house for 65 years and that was in '98, so she lived there for a few years after that. She always bragged on her family for taking care of her and they have my sympathy, she was a nice lady and will be missed so much.

BURROW, GATTIS, KILLEBREW, MELTON, ROARK, SHERRY, SMITH posted by Mountain Echo Newspaper on Thursday, June 14, 2001

Mountain Echo Newspaper, Yakima Valley (Wash.) News by Frankie Seay, Week of June 14, 2001 issue: I had a call from Bobby and Sharon Morrow and they had an email from Pauline MELTON telling of the death of Pauline's daughter, Georgia KILLEBREW, of cancer, and also the passing of Walter BURROW, both from south of Yellville and both Marion County natives, and also of the death of Mrs. Arlo ROARK. I know all of them well enough to feel sorrow at their passing. Pauline is especially on my mind as a mother she has my sympathy. It seems the deaths of people we know come in threes or fours and we almost hate to open the paper to see another one. My sympathy to all these families. Another one I have to mention is the May 27 death of the husband of former Marion County lady, Icel (SMITH/GATTIS). Leonard SHERRY passed away at their home in Yakima of a possible heart attack and was found by Icel at 3 a.m. She is the daughter of the late Seran and Bertha SMITH and was raised south of Yellville, has lived here for many years and was married to Howard GATTIS for a number of years. Howard passed away just two months ago. Icel and Leonard SHERRY were married 31 years and made their home in Yakima, where she raised her son, Danny GATTIS, and Leonard had raised his son, Neal SHERRY. Together they shared five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren and he's also survived by a brother and two sisters. I didn't know Leonard well, but he was known as a good man and well liked by everyone. Icel will miss him and she hand the family have my sympathy. He lived for 82 years and leaves behind a much-bereaved family.
