Marion Co TOC

The census was taken by James M Cowdry, Ass't Marshal 13 Oct 1850. Cowdry's handwriting is very clear and the census is transcribed as written. Mysty McPherson was kind enough to give me the correct spelling for some names. Her corrections are in red. Thanks Mysty for your help.

The 1850 Slave census for Marion County consists of two unnumbered pages set up so that each page contains two identical sets of columns with one on the left and one of the right side of the page. The Slave Census does not identify the slaves by names. The owner is listed and then all the slaves that person owns are given by age, sex and color.

The total of slaves by Township are: White River 7, Union 43, Sugarloaf 46, Blythe 8, North Fork 19, Prairie 2 & Buffalo 1 for a total of 126 Slaves in Marion Co AR

There are only two color designations given. B=Black & M=Mulatto. (Mulatto refers to someone who is part white & part black.)
