Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of August 9, 2007 issue: Teresa Gail JOHNSON, age 47, of Flippin, Arkansas died August 2, 2007 at the Hospice of the Ozarks Hospice House. A graveside memorial service was held Sunday, August 5, 2007 at 8:00 a.m. at the Flippin Cemetery in Flippin. Mrs. JOHNSON was born October 28, 1959 in St. Louis, Missouri to Mr. and Carlene GILLILAND COOPER. She worked as a bookkeeper for many years before she married Mr. JOHNSON on May 12, 1984 at Yellville and was a fulltime housewife and best friend. She loved to sew, go shopping and caring for her many plants. Mostly, she loved being a "mom" to all of her friend's and family's kids. Survivors include her husband of 23 years of Flippin, AR; three sisters, two of Marshall, AR and one of Rector, AR; a brother of Marshall, AR; her father of Marshall, AR; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of her many friends. She will be greatly missed by her family and all of her many friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Carlene COOPER, in 1979 and her beloved grandmother, Eva GILLILAND. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of August 9, 2007 issue: William Duncan HOY, 77, of Flippin, Arkansas passed away Friday, August 3, 2007 at home. Mr. HOY was born Sept. 5, 1929 at Warsaw, NY to James Malcolm and Marian WALLACE HOY. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars, having served 20 years in the U.S. Navy. He also spent many years as a truck driver, which he enjoyed immensely, for Norwood Moving and LR Hoekstra Co. He was married September 5, 1959 at Newport, RI. He was a member of the Smith Johnson VFW Post #5742. He is survived by his wife; a son of Reseda, CA; two daughters one of Murrieta, CA and one of Flippin, AR; four grandchildren one of Costa Mesa, CA, one of San Diego, CA and two of Flippin, AR; two brothers, one of Clifton, VA and one of Macedon, NY; a sister of Waggaman, LA; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother Teresa TIMMONS; two brothers, James MALCOLM Jr. and Basil NOYCE. Services will be private. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Ozarks. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of August 16, 2007 issue: A memorial service for Josephine Lena VONESH of Lakeview, Arkansas was held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday August 11, 2007 at the Kirby & Family funeral Home Chapel, Bull Shoals, Arkansas with Reverend Father Charles Kanu as celebrant. Mrs. VONESH died Saturday, August 4, 2007 at Flippin, Arkansas. She was born October 4, 1916 at Michigan City, Indiana to John and Anna SERAMA. She was married January 24, 1980. She was a factory worker at Sherwin Williams Can Manufacturing Plant and she has resided in the Lakeview area since moving from Tinley Park, Illinois in 1987. She loved to travel across the United States in their camper and fish with her husband. She was a good cook and loved her home and grandchildren. Survivors include her husband; her son and his wife of Joliet, IL; a nephew and his wife of Irving, TX; and two granddaughters one of Chicago, IL and one of Manhattan, IL. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of August 9, 2007 issue: Norman James "Jim" YOST, age 63, of Gorham, Kansas died Sunday, August 5, 2007 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas. Recitation of the Holy Rosary was held on Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at the Russell Funeral Home in Russell, Kansas. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Gorham, Kansas. Graveside services and interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday August 11, 2007 at the Flippin Cemetery in Flippin, Arkansas. A memorial has been established with the American Heart Association. Contributions may be left at the funeral home. Mr. YOST was born June 29, 1934 at the family home in Gorham, Kansas the son of Gotfrey and Mary KUHN YOST. After graduating from Gorham High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1952, serving until 1956 at which time he moved to Wichita, Kansas and began a career as a machinist. He was united in marriage to Betty Del MCBEE on April 26, 1960 in Wichita. They lived in Wichita for several years, moving to Rincon, Georgia in 1992. There he worked as a machinist for Gulf Stream Aero Space until retiring in 2002. Following Betty's death on July 3,, 2002, he returned to Gorham. He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Gorham, the Knights of Columbus, the Russell V.F.W. POST 6240 and the Russell American Legion Post #99. Survivors include his two sons and their wives all of Wichita, KS; a brother and his wife of Denver, CO; a sister of Victoria, KS; a sister-in-law of Yellville, AR; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. His parents, wife, brothers Alois YOST, Edwin YOST, Elmer YOST, Robert YOST, and Virgil YOST; and sisters Julita YOST and Mary Ann FORELICH preceded him in death. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of August 16, 2007 issue: Willie Faye BURLESON, age 84, of Bruno, Arkansas died Wednesday, August the 8, 2007. She was born January 1, 1923 at Bruno, Arkansas the daughter of Dolph and Cecil MORROW ANGEL. Mrs. BURLESON was the postmaster at the Bruno Post Office for 31 years before it closed. She was a homemaker and the wife of the late Carl BURLESON whom she married on June 21, 1941. Her husband, Carl preceded her in death on May 2, 1996. Mrs. BURLESON was a member of the Bruno Baptist Church and a former board member of the Bruno Cemetery Board. Survivors include her daughter and husband of Bruno, AR; two grandchildren of Bruno, AR; two great-grandchildren, three step great-grandchildren. Her brother, Ray Edward ANGEL, also preceded her in death. Visitation was held at the Burns Funeral Home in Yellville on Thursday, August 9, 2007 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Services were held at Burns Funeral Home on Friday, August 10, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. with Brother Paul Huskey officiating. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of August 23, 2007 issue: Woodrow Jackson REESE, age 88, of Yellville, Arkansas died in Harrison, Arkansas on August 14, 2007. He was born March 17, 1919 in Marshall, Arkansas and left this life to be with our Lord on Tuesday August 14, 2007. He was the son of Thomas Wayne and Irene WILLINGHAM REECE. He was preceded in death by both his parents; his brothers, Mathew, Tom, Bryan, Blaine and Willard; and sisters, Lorene PEDEN and Helen. He was preceded in death by two wives, Essie Mae CAIN REESE his wife of 38 years and Myra DILLARD REECE his wife of eleven years. Uncle Jack was loved very much by many nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews as well as many other family members and dear friends. His sharp mind and recall of family history would entertain for hours and devoted many years to genealogy. He was an avid hunter and woodsman and he loved gardening. He retired from Arkansas Power and Light Company in 1982 after serving as a lineman and service man for 32 years. He was a lifelong member of the Christian Church, a Mason belonging to Campbell Lodge #115 of Marshall, Arkansas and a patriarch to his family. He was in the U.S. Army during World War II and did us all a great service by fighting in the Pacific Theater as a member of the Sixth Ranger Battalion and participated in the rescue of 500 prisoners from Cabanatuan POW Camp. He was a hero, but would never take credit for doing more than any other soldier. He was very generous and was always there for his family, friends and members of the community. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of August 23, 2007 issue: Al "Rex" KREMER, age 39, of Pea Ridge, Arkansas died August 19, 2007 in Springdale, Arkansas. Mr. KREMER was born December 28, 1967 in Russellville, Arkansas. He graduated from Scranton High School in Scranton, Arkansas and received a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. On November 14, 1992 he was married at St. Benedict in Subicao. He was the general manager for Technical Laser Services in Rogers. He was a member of the St. Stephens Catholic Church in Bentonville and a retired Major in the United States Army Reserves, a member of the Northwest Arkansas Basketball Official's Association and several other basketball associations. Survivors include his wife of the home; his daughter and his son both of the home; his parents; one sister; two brothers; paternal grandmother; one stepbrother; three stepsister; and several nieces and nephews. His maternal grandparents and paternal grandfather preceded him in death. Funeral mass will be Thursday August 23, 2007 at St. Stephens Catholic Church in Bentonville, Arkansas with Father Mike Sinkler officiating. Burial will follow in the Pea Ridge Cemetery. She was a lifelong resident of Marion County and a member of the Summit Pentecostal Church. Mr. HOLLAND was born May 30, 1934 at Wetumka, Oklahoma the son of Cleo and Velma HARDCASTLE HOLLAND. On November 17, 1958, he married Barbara WICKER. Mr. HOLLAND was a U.S. Navy veteran and was enlisted from September 26, 1955 until August 1, 1959 earning the rank of BTFN as a boiler operator and operating engineer. He previously worked for the Yellville-Summit School maintenance department, was a trustee at the Yellville Assembly of God Church and a Master Mason at the Mountain Home Masonic Lodge #225. Survivors include his son and wife of Scotts Bluff, NE; two daughters and their husbands one of Flippin, AR and one of Cotter, AR; a sister and husband of Oklahoma City, OK; and three grandchildren. His wife, Barbara, and two brothers, Virgil HOLLAND and Cleo HOLLAND, Jr., preceded him in death. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of August 30, 2007 issue: Shirley Ruth HUDDLESTON SHEA age 71 of Springdale, Arkansas died Thursday, August 23, 2007. She was born at Yellville, Arkansas on May 24, 1936, the daughter of Ralph E. and Eva HALL HUDDLESTON. Mrs. SHEA was a resident of the Springdale area for 41 years. She was a retired secretary for Cargill, formerly known as Ralston-Purina Co. She attended Bette Bonn School of Modeling & Charm in Kansas City, Kansas, she was a runner-up Miss Kansas City, Kansas in 1957 and she also had pursued a modeling career in Hollywood, California. Survivors include her daughter of Muskogee, OK; and a granddaughter of Muskogee, OK. Her parents; six brothers, Jeane, Ralph, Jr., Glendon, Russell, Charles and James HUDDLESTON; and two sisters, Mabel WORLIEN and Sarah KIRKLAND, preceded her in death. Services were held at Burns Funeral Home in Yellville, Arkansas on Sunday, August 26, 2007 t 1:30 p.m. with her nephew, Allan HUDDLESTON, officiating. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of August 30, 2007 issue: John DILLARD, age 85 of Yellville, Arkansas, passed away Friday, August 24, 2007 at Jonesboro Health Care Center in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Mr. DILLARD was born in Old Dillard Settlement in Marion County, Arkansas on April 20, 1922, the son of Pate and Cora DAVENPORT DILLARD and was a lifelong resident of Marion County. He was a Church of Christ minister throughout his life and a member ot he Mull Church of Christ. He lived the outdoors and particularly the Buffalo River. He enjoyed playing music with his friends and family and was well known for his storytelling. Survivors include his son and wife of Ault, CO; a daughter and husband of Paragould, AR; a sister of Yellville, AR; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. His parents, sister Myra REECE and brother Russell DILLARD preceded him in death. Visitation was held at Burns Funeral Home in Yellville on Sunday, August 26, 2007 from 4-6 P.M. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of September 6, 2007 issue: William Oscar MCCOY, age 85, formerly of Yellville, Arkansas died in Kerrville, Texas on Thursday, August 29, 2007. Mr. MCCOY was born on October 11, 1921, the first of three brothers born to Floyd MCCOY and Elsie May FRAME MCCOY. He was born in the home on the farm of his grandfather, Thomas Bartlett FRAME, then located about two miles east of Flippin, Arkansas, opposite the Rea Valley Road. Mr. MCCOY was a 1941 graduate of Yellville-Summit High School, attended University of Arkansas and graduated in 1949 with a degree education. He was a teacher in Tyronza, Arkansas for six years and taught Agriculture at Yellville-Summit High School from fall of 1955 through spring of 1983 and was a member of the Arkansas Retired Teachers Association. He was a member of the Yellville First Baptist Church and formerly served as Deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was a veteran of WWII having served in the Army Air Corps. On June 17, 1946, he married Helen Mae ANDERS. Helen preceded him in death on August 27, 2003. Survivors include his youngest brother and wife of City of Commerce (Los Angeles), CA; a son and his wife of Alamogordo, NM, and their son (Oscar's grandson) of San Diego, CA; and a daughter and husband of Kerrville, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen Mae ANDERS MCCOY, his father Floyd, mother Elsie and second brother Floyd Melvin MCCOY. Visitation was from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Saturday, September 1, 2007. Funeral services were Sunday, September 2, 2007 at 2:20 p.m. at the Yellville First Baptist Church with Brother Bill Canary officiating. Interment to follow at Layton Cemetery in Yellville.
