Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of June 7, 2007 issue: A memorial service for Henry GREGG of Lakeview, Arkansas was held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday June 5, 2007 at Kirby and Family Funeral Home in Bull Shoals with Reverend Nicholas Lascaro officiating. Military Honors will be by Hoevel-Barnett Veterans of Foreign War Post #1341. Mr. GREGG died June 1, 2007 at his residence. He was 81 years old. Mr. GREGG was born in Kansas City, Missouri on October 4, 1925. He was married on February 21, 1998 in Reno, Nevada and moved to Lakeview from Chico, California in 2001. Mr. GREGG was a mechanical engineer who worked in the manufacturing industry. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, a lifetime member of the Hoevel-Barnett Veterans of Foreign War Post #1341, a member of the Twin Lakes Eagles Aerie #3183 and the Lakeview Lion's Club. His first love, after his wife, was golfing. He also enjoyed fishing. He was a member of the Bull Shoals United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife of Lakeview, AR; three daughters two of Santa Rosa, CA and one of Sebastopol, CA; two sons one of Molalla, OR and one of Reno, NV; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of June 14, 2007 issue: John Philip STARK, age 68, of Midway, Arkansas died June 2, 2007 at this residence. Mr. Stark was a former member of the Bull Shoals City Council and owner of John's Old Time Log Homes. He loved gardening and enjoyed sports. Survivors include his wife of 49 years of the home; two sons and their wives, one of Batesville, AR and one of Appolo Beach, FL; five grandsons; two granddaughters; a brother and his wife of Michigan; and two sisters and their husband's, one of Nevada one of Wisconsin. His parents, Clinton and Marion STARK, and twin sons, Gene and Gerald STARK, preceded him in death. A celebration of life his life and memorial service will be held Sunday, June 24, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bull Shoals United Methodist Church. The family requests memorials be made to the March of Dimes in John's memory. Arrangements are under the direction of Twin Lakes Cremation Society and Funeral Home.

Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of June 14, 2007 issue: Herbert Leon HAM, age 79 of Flippin, Arkansas died Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at Twin Lakes Nursing Center in Flippin. Mr. HAM was born February 25, 1928 at Campbell, Missouri to Olin and Amy POLLOCK HAM. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in the Korean War and was a Purple Heart recipient. Mr. HAM had a career in the petroleum industry as a painter at an oil refinery. He was a member of Twin Lakes Baptist Church in Mountain Home. Survivors include his wife of the home; a son and his wife of Chino, CA; three daughters and their husband's, one of Conway, AR, one of Whittier, CA and one of Lakewood, CA; a brother of Oregon; two sisters one of Holcomb, MO and one of Campbell, MO; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. His parents proceeded in death. Visitation was held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 8, 2007 at the Burns Funeral Home Chapel in Yellville. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 9, 2007 at Twin Lakes Baptist Church in Mountain Home with Rev. Sam Bailey officiating. Mr. HUFFSTEDLER was a self-employed in the heating and air conditioning business. He was a United States Air Force veteran. Survivors include his wife of Bull Shoals, AR. Visitation was held Friday, June 15, 2007 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at McNabb Funeral Home in Pocahontas, AR. Funeral service was held Saturday, June 16, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at McNabb Funeral Home in Pocahontas, Arkansas with Reverend Jerry Backus officiating. Burial was held at the Randolph memorial Gardens in Pocahontas, Arkansas. Memorials may be made to the Bull Shoals Baptist Church Building Fund. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of June 21, 2007 issue: Ralph F. BELCHER, 95, of Yellville, Arkansas died Thursday, June 14, 2007 at the Marion County Nursing Home. Services are private with burial in Washington at a later date. Mr. BELCHER was born on October 12, 1911 in Rice Lake, Wisconsin to Oscar Edwin BELCHER and Frances COOK BELCHER. He married Clara EDWARDS on May 25, 1934 in Oregon and celebrated 63 years of marriage before she passed in December 1997. Mr. BELCHER was a retired telephone frameman for the Qwest Telephone Company and enjoyed fishing. Survivors include his son of Yakima, WA; his daughter and her husband; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; a brother and his wife; and a sister. His parents, his wife, Clara, and a brother, Merlin BELCHER, preceded him in death. Memorials may be made to the Marion County Nursing Home in Ralph's memory. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of June 21, 2007 issue: Matthew Christopher "Matt" PONTIFF, age 23 of Mountain Home Arkansas died Friday, June 15, 2007 at the Cox South Regional Medical Center in Springfield, MO. He was born November 17, 1983 at Houma, Louisiana. Mr. PONTIFF was employed by E Z Loader of Mountain Home as a welder and also at the Game Zone in Mountain Home as a go-cart mechanic. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 380 of Houma, LA. He was also a member of the Mountain Home Bike Club. He enjoyed Mountain biking, snow skiing, rock climbing and horse back riding. Survivors include his father and step-mother of Houma, LA; his mother and step-father of Mountain Home, AR his fiancé of Mountain Home, AR; his most loving and faithful companion, Tig; two sisters and their husbands one of Gassville, AR one of Houma, LA; three step-sisters; three step-brothers, all of Mountain Home, AR; grandparents one of Houma, LA, and one of Fayetteville, AR; his two best friends both of Mountain Home, AR; and aunts, uncles and numerous nieces and nephews. His grandparents Bonnie and A.J. AL DEFRS and Evelyn PONTIFF preceded him in death. Funeral service was at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 19, 2007 at the Yellville Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of June 21, 2007 issue: A memorial service for Donald Ray GARRETT of Mountain Home was held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Kirby & Family Funeral Home Chapel in Bull Shoals with Reverend Nicholas Lascaro officiating. Mr. GARRETT died Saturday, June 16, 2007 at the Hospice House. The family received friends from 12:30 until service time at the funeral home. Burial was private. Mr. GARRETT was born March 8, 1927 to Ralph and Daisy LEIST GARRETT and was raised in Pittsburgh, in the southeast part of Kansas. He was married on June 5, 1942 in Webb City, Missouri. As a young man he worked in the coal mines, then moving in the 1950's to Kansas City, Missouri, where he worked for Westinghouse and Fairbanks & Morse. In 1959, Don and Maxine bought George's One Stop, which was a service station and a bait & tackle shop in Bull Shoals. They moved to Bull Shoals in February in 1960 to take over their new business. At the time Don and Maxine started George's Fishing Service, which offered float trips on local rivers for trout and small mouth bass fishing. Bo Martin was the first guide they hired. They had to work fast because you had to be ready for the trout fishermen when the trout season opened March 1. Mr. GARRETT was self-employed with a service station, sold bait & tackle, then he later built a small grocery store. Not only did he build the first car wash but he also built the first Laundromat in Bull Shoals. He also started the Crystal Clear Ice Company for block and cubed ice which was later sold and is now located in Mountain Home. He and his son Danny were partners in Garrett General Hauling. He and Danny also put in the electric, water and telephone lines for Woodstone and Rivercliff Subdivisions in Bull Shoals. Mr. GARRETT started in business in 1960 and moved to Flippin in 1975 to retire. After suffering a stroke in 1988 he moved to Mountain Home to be closer to the hospital and his doctors. He was a World War II veteran, a member of the Yellville Masonic Lodge #117 and was of the Methodist Faith. He was constable of Bull Shoals for approximately 10 years and served as a member of the Bull Shoals Volunteer Fire Department, Chamber of Commerce, and Bull Shoals Lake & Whit River Association. Mr. GARRETT spent his retirement years in Flippin, Mountain Home, Florida, Brownsville and South Padre, Texas. He loved fishing the ocean surf and Bull Shoals Lake and deer hunting with his group of friends. Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, a daughter both of Flippin, AR; three granddaughters two of Yellville, AR; one of Mountain Home, AR; a grandson of Bull Shoals, AR; nine great grandchildren; and one great- great-grandson. His parents, one infant daughter Debra Sue, and one sister Eula STOLTE and on brother Roy GARRETT preceded him in death. Memorials may be made Hospice of the Ozarks Hospice House. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of June 28, 2007 issue: Nancy GANTZ, age 68 of Bull Shoals, Arkansas formerly of Green Bay and Sturgeon Bay passed away Sunday, June 17, 2007 in Mountain Home, Arkansas. Services and burial will be private. Nancy Ann MONFILS, the daughter of Elvin and Gertrude BERTRAND MONFILS, was born August 30, 1938 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Nancy was married on September 1, 1956 in Green Bay and would have celebrated 51 years of marriage in September. Nancy and her husband moved to Bull Shoals in August 2002 and enjoyed their retirement here. Mrs. GANTZ was a homemaker, enjoyed making crafts, playing the card game "smear", fishing, gardening and especially camping with family and friends when they were in Door County, Wisconsin. The family will remember many happy "crab boils" at her son house with a dear friend cooking. Her grandchildren were the love of her life. She was easy-going and a very loving and caring person who made friends for life and touched the hearts of many. She loved her cat Baby, also known as "Puffer". She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. Survivors include her loving husband of Bull Shoals, AR; a son of Demark, WI; grandchildren one of Brillion, WI, one and his fiancée, of Madison, WI and one of Denmark, WI; two great-grandsons; an uncle of Florida; an aunt of Green Bay, WI; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends of Sturgeon Bay, WI and of Midway, AR. Her parents, grandparents, John and Ann BERTRAND, and several aunts and uncles preceded her in death. Memorial contributions may be made to Salvation Army. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of June 21, 2007 issue: Lee Roy SMITH, age 81, died June 18, 2007 at his home in Mull, Arkansas. He was born June 17, 1926 in Mull, Arkansas. He was the son of Harrison and Alice DILLARD SMITH and husband of Russelline WOOD SMITH. He was a member of the Mull Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 45 years, Russelline, brothers, Jesse and Benny SMITH, and sisters Willodean BARNES and Evelyn MCLAIN. He is survived by his three sisters, two brothers, two daughters and their husband's, four grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a builder and spent the better portion of his life as a General Contractor, partnered with his brother Billy Frank. Together the two built numerous commercial and residential buildings in Yellville and Mountain Home, including the Yellville - Summit Gymnasium, Elementary School, Cafeteria, and Agri building, Burns Funeral Home, Yellville Nursing Home, Yellville Professional Building, Yellville Library, Mountain Home First Federal Bank, Baxter Regional Medical Center addition, Baxter Laboratory additions, Mountain Home Nelson - Wilkes Elementary, Mountain Home Kindergarten, and Baxter County Sheriff's Office and jail. He also built, owned, and operated the former Yellville Dairy Queen, was a Real Estate Broker for United Realty in Yellville, and co-owned the Holiday Boat Plant in Yellville. He was a World War II Army veteran and a Mason. In his earlier years he enjoyed nice cars, a competitive game of chess, following the news and stock market, and being at home with Russelline. Regardless of where his travels took him, he always kept his watch on Arkansas time. In his later years, he enjoyed taking his grandchildren on golf cart rides, eating at the Hilltop Restaurant and going to church. He was Grand Marshall in the 2002 Turkey Trot Parade, along with his brother Billy Frank. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather a gentle man, and a Christian. His dry humor and wit always left you with a smile. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 22 at 10:30 a.m. at Burns Funeral Home with Bryan Jefferson officiating. With pallbearers and honorary pallbearers. Visitation will be on Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the Parkinson Foundation, 1501 N. She was married September 21, 1996 at Bull Shoals, Arkansas. She worked in sales and marketing in the fishing industry. She moved from Wichita, Kansas to the Twin Lakes area in 1969. She was a member of the Bull Shoals United Methodist Church. Terri was devoted to her husband, family, and friends. She was a great friend with a loving heart who never had an unkind word for anyone. Survivors include her husband of Flippin, AR; two stepsons and their wives of Fayetteville, AR; three grandchildren of Fayetteville, AR; two brothers one of La Luz, NM, one of Batesville, AR.

Mrs. RIDDLE was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma on January 23, 1935 the daughter of Harold and Lucille DRUMMOND RAY. On June 25, 1955, she married Benjamin RIDDLE. Before moving to Marion County in 1970, she was employed in a secretarial position with Sears & Roebuck Company. She was a member of the Jehovah Witness Church in Flippin, Arkansas. Survivors include her husband of the home near Yellville, AR; two sons, one of Yellville, AR and one of Conway, AR; a daughter and her husband of Bentonville, AR; two brothers and their wives one of LeVon, TX and one of Shawnee, OK; two sisters one of Kingston, OK one of Edmond, OK; and two grandchildren. Her parents and daughter, Brenda RIDDLE, preceded her in death. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of July 19, 2007 issue: A funeral service for Jon-Eric HOPE of Harrison, Arkansas was Tuesday July 17, 2007 at 10:00 A.M. at Eastside Baptist Church with Pastor Jerry Backus officiating. Jon-Eric died Saturday June 30, 2007 at Fuanshan, Taitung County, Taiwan. He was 21 years old. Jon-Eric was born at Memphis, Tennessee. Jon-Eric was a missionary and taught English as a second language in Yuli, Taiwan. He was a member of the Harrison swim team, the Ozark Chorale Society, a 4-H member, and a member of the President's Prayer team. Jon-Eric loved to hike, he won the Presidential Volunteer Award, and participated in the Jr. Olympics winning gold, bronze and silver medals. He dedicated his life and his work to Jesus Christ. He was a member of the Bull Shoals Baptist Church. He is survived by his parents, one sister, and one brother all of Harrison, Arkansas; maternal grandmother, his paternal grandparents and great-grandparents. He also had an abundance of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who loved him dearly. His grandfather Wilburn TURNER and twin sisters, Katie and Sarah preceded him in death. Visitation was from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Monday July 16, 2007 at Bull Shoals Baptist Church. Burial followed in Kirby's Tucker Memorial Cemetery with pallbearers honorary pallbearers.
