Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of May 10, 2007 issue: Helen Asenath SMITH WHEMPNER, age 85 of Yellville, Arkansas, died Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home, Arkansas. Mrs. WHEMPNER was born June 9, 1921 at Cambridge, Nebraska to Atwell and Nellie STONE SMITH. Formerly of Forsythe, Missouri, Mrs. WHEMPNER moved to Yellville area three and one-half years ago. She was a retired owner/operator of a fabric store and a member of the Welcome Ridge Community Church. Survivors include her daughter of Forsythe, MO; two sisters one of Wisconsin and one of Hays, KS; three grandchildren one of Yellville, AR one of Forsythe, MO and one of Branson, MO; eight great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. Her parents and husband preceded her in death. Services were held Friday, May 4, 2007 at the Welcome Ridge Community Church at 2:00 p.m. with Kevin Rogers officiating. Visitation was held from 12:00 noon until service time. Burial followed in the Georges Creek Cemetery with pallbearers. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of May 10, 2007 issue: Harold Dean CHEEK, age 75, died Tuesday, May 1, 2007 in Yellville, Arkansas. Mr. CHEEK was born August 5,, 1931 at Midway, Arkansas the son of Clifford and Effie CASEY CHEEK. Mr. CHEEK was a carpenter by trade and was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. Survivors include his three sons, two of Houston, TX and one of Mountain Home, AR; two daughters one of Yakima, WA and one of Wichita, KS; two brothers one of Yellville, AR and one of Fayetteville, AR; two sisters, one of Wichita, KS and one of Harrison, AR; ten grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. His wife, Daisy DOYLE BARNES; brothers, Nowell, Lowell, Johnny and Robert; and sisters, Peggy and Anna preceded him in death. Graveside services were held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 5, 2007 at Georges Creek Cemetery in Yellville with Reverend Eldon King officiating. Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, May 4, 2007 at Burns Funeral Home Chapel. Pallbearers were present. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of May 10, 2007 issue: Marvin Dale "Rob" ROBERTSON, age 78 of Yellville, Arkansas, died Thursday, May 3, 2007 at UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas Mr. ROBERTSON was born February 10, 1929 at Lincoln, Nebraska the son of Lee and Effie HELTZEL ROBERTSON. On July 31, 1954, he was married. Mr. ROBERTSON moved to Yellville in 1972 after his retirement from the U.S. Navy in 1969 and was later employed at Arkansas Freightways in Harrison and also as a programmer for 1st State Bank in Mountain Home. He was of the Methodist faith. Survivors include his wife; two sons one of Guam and one of Springdale, AR; three daughters one of Yellville, AR, one Rogers, AR and one of Little Rock, AR; a sister of Lincoln, NE; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. His parents and brother, Don ROBERTSON, preceded him in death. Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, May 6, 2007 at the Burns Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 7, 2007 at the Burns Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Nick Lascaro officiating. Interment followed in Flippin Cemetery. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of May 10, 2007 issue: Myrtle Frances HULLETT, age 81 of Flippin, Arkansas, died Sunday, May 6, 2007. Mrs. HULLETT was born January 30, 1926 at Elgin, Texas, the daughter of Fred and Edith BROOKS BONES. Formerly of Saratoga, California, she moved to the area in 1979. She was a Baptist by faith. Survivors include her husband of Flippin, AR; two sons one of Mt. Juliet, TN and one of Flippin, AR; three daughters one of Dunham, NC, one of Chico, CA and one of Portland, OR; a brother of Alivn, TX; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Her parents and son, Paul David HULLETT, preceded her in death. Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9, 2007 at the Burns Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 10, 2007 at Georges Creek Cemetery in Yellville with John Carey officiating with honorary pallbearers. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of May 17, 2007 issue: A gathering of friends for John EASTWOLD was held from 2:00-9:00 P.M. on Tuesday May 15, 2007 at Kirby & Family Funeral Home in Bull Shoals. Burial was at the Fairview Cemetery on Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at 10:00 A.M. with Kirby Davenport and Gary Head officiating. Pallbearers were present as well as Honorary Pallbearers. Mr. EASTWOLD died May 12, 2007. He was born June 19, 1933. He was married on September 16, 1956. He was an Army veteran who was a corporal in the Korean War. Mr. EASTWOLD too agriculture courses at Illinois University and made a career of sales and service in the farm supply business. In 1966 he became the top salesman in the country. John and his wife along with their two sons purchased the Bull Shoals Lake Boat Dock in 1972. It is now one of the largest marinas in the state. The family also owns Lighthouse Point Resort. Mr. EASTWOLD dedicated his life to his family and to the tourism and fishing industry of the area. He was past president of the Ozark Mountain Region, Arkansas Travel Council and Treasurer for the Bull Shoals Chamber of Commerce. He was recognized by Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. Mr. EASTWOLD was responsible for the 4th of July Fireworks on Bull Shoals Lake. He was instrumental in forming the Retired Fisherman's Club, the White River Outfitters Association and the Resort Owners Association Committee. Survivors include his wife, of Bull Shoals, AR; gwo sons, one of Fairview, AR and one of Bull Shoals, AR; his brother of Norway, IL; and two grandchildren. His parents and one brother preceded him in death. Memorials may be made to Hospice House or Arkansas Children's Hospital of Little Rock. Mrs. WOOD was born August 10, 1935 at Freck, Arkansas the daughter of Mitchel and Affie MOORE REED. She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a member of the Summit Pentecostal Church of God. Survivors include her seven daughters, three of Summit, AR, one of Norfork, AR, one of Jefferson City, MO, one of Yellville, AR and one of Harrison, AR; two brothers, one of Venita, OR, one of St. Louis

Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of May 24, 2007 issue: Hattie Pearl BURNS, 81, of Morrilton, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at her home from complications of surgery in January with her family by her side. She was born January 8, 1926 at Solgohachia, Arkansas the second child of Dovie Adeline MAXWELL and Edgar Pearl MARTIN. She was a 1944 graduate of Wonderview High School where she was class president and valedictorian. Hattie worked at Arkla Gas Company in Russellville before her marriage to Buell and after marriage sold Avon cosmetics for thirty-two years and worked for the Welcome Wagon. She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church, first in the Lanty Community where she grew up and then in Morrilton. She was a member of the Wesleyan Sunday School Class and the Audra Basham Guild and was very active in her church family. Hattie was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who was devoted to her family and always put them first in her life. She was very outgoing, never met a stranger and had many, many friends. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-eight years. Buell Edwin BURNS, her parents, and brothers, Wendell Ray MARTIN and wife Penny, George Wayne MARTIN and James Luther MARTIN; she is survived by a son and his wife of Little Rock; three daughters and their husbands one of Russellville, one of Lake Jackson, Texas, one of Morrilton; two sisters-in-law one of Little Rock and one of Morrilton; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Services were held at the First United Methodist Church in Morrilton at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 19, 2007, officiated by Rev. Jerry Collins. Pallbearers were and honorary Pallbearers were present Burial wasa in Elmwood Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 201 S. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of May 24, 2007 issue: Virginia "Jinny" UNGER, age 86, of Yellville, Arkansas died Friday, May 18, 2007 at Twin Lake Rehabilitation Center. Services and burial are private. Mrs. UNGER, a retired comptroller for the military reserve, with her husband built their home in Yellville after moving here in 1979 from Hot Springs, South Dakota. She loved her yard and working in her flower gardens. Survivors include her husband of almost 40 years of the home; two sons, one of Beaumont, CA and one of Tampa, FL; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law of Mountain Home, AR; and a niece and nephew of Lakeview, AR. Mr. PAXTON was born May 12, 1937 at Yellville, Arkansas to Frank and Virgie FRIEND PAXTON. He was married on May 15, 1965 at Summit. He was a retired carpenter. Ms. NADEAU was born November 22, 1948 at Bronx, New York the daughter of Anthony and Mildred REILLLY MIGLIACCIO. Formerly of Long Island, New York, she moved to St. Joe, Arkansas 16 years ago. She worked as a receptionist at the Marion County Health Department. She was a loving mother and grandmother. Survivors include her son, of Yellville, AR; three daughters one of Sun Prairie, WI, two of St. Joe, AR; a brother of Sonyea, NY; a sister of Opoka, FL; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Mr. HARRIS was born February 20, 1949 at Mountain Home, Arkansas the son of Huey and Willie Mae ROSENBAUM HARRIS. Mr. HARRIS was a life long resident of Baxter County and had been employed as a dump truck driver for 34 years by Guy King & Sons Inc. He greatly enjoyed hunting and fishing as was a member of the Oakland Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, one of Live Oak, FL, one of Cotter, AR one of Oak Grove, KY; three brothers, one of Salem, AR, one of Russellville, AR and one of Fayetteville, AR; four sisters, one of Lawton, OK, one of Apache, OK, one of Yellville, AR and one of Fayetteville, AR; and six grandchildren. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of May 31, 2007 issue: Bob C. MADDOX, age 84 of Yellville, died Sunday, May 27, 2007 at Auburns Hills Health & Rehab in Mountain Home, Arkansas. He was the only son of the late Lester and Katherine (SURRIG) MADDOX and was born in Bartlesville, Oklahoma on June 19, 1922. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in WWII as an airplane armorer and was decorated with the American Campaign Medal, Good Conduct medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siseters. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, may 30 at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Yellville with Bro. Kent Goodall officiating.
