Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of January 4, 2007 issue: Paul K. RIIS, age 82, of Flippin, Arkansas died Monday at Harrison Nursing Center in Harrison, Arkansas. Mr. RIIS was born December 8, 1924 in Chicago, IL to Niels and Margaret KIBSGAARD RIIS and married in Waukegan, IL. They moved to the area in 1985. A US Army veteran of WWII, he later worked as a lithographer for Chicago Graphic Arts. Paul was a Mason since 1964, most recently a member of Yellville Masonic Lodge #117, a Knight Templar, and served as Past Grand Royal Patron of the Order of the Armaranth of Illinois. Survivors include his wife of the home; daughter of Merrifield, MN and her children and grandchildren; brother-in-law and sister-in-law; and several nieces and nephews and their families. DOSHIER -- Gene, 84, of Tulsa, OK, died Wednesday, January 3, 2007. He was born on October 23, 1922 in Flippin, AR, the third son of Calvin Ross DOSHIER and Rosalea TOLSON. Gene had a humble beginning, growing up on the family farm in Arkansas and working in CCC Camps during the Depression. As a young man Gene enlisted in the Army Aircorps in 1942 and served as a Engineer-Top Turret Gunner on B-24's with the 376th Heavy Bomb Group during WWII. Gene married his childhood sweetheart, Norma Gene CRANFILL on November 23, 1943. Gene's plan was shot down over Budapest on July 2, 1944, he was severely wounded in the crash and taken prisoner. He was a POW at Stalag 7 near Mooseburg, Germany until his liberation in May of 1945. Returned to the States a double amputee in a body cast, his strong will, strength of character, fierce determination and unfailing faith in God allowed him to overcome all obstacles and live a full and vibrant life with Norma Gene until her death in 2003. Gene was an active member and Deacon of the Harvard Avenue Baptist Church in Tulsa for 53 years. Gene spent many years assisting other disabled veterans through service in the DAV having held numerous State Offices including Judge Advocate General. Gene was a watchmaker with Moody's Jewelry for over 30 years. Gene saw the good in everyone, advised and helped anyone who asked him and gave freely of his self and possessions. Rejoice with us for Gene is united again with his Lord and Savior and his beloved wife Norma in Heaven. Gene is survived by: 4 children and their spouses; 4 grandchildren and their spouses; 1 sister; 1 sister-in-law; and many nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones too numerous to be counted. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Yellville, Arkansas. She and her husband served as foster parents to 63 children. BLOMQUIST, age 83, of Flippin, Arkansas died Thursday, January 11, 2007 at Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home, Arkansas. He was the son of the late Oscar and Esther (PETERSON) BLOMQUIST and was born February 8, 1923 in Montague, Massachusetts. He was retired military, serving in both the Army and Army Air Force in WWII, Korean and Vietnam wars. He was a 32nd degree Mason and Shriner, member of the VFW and was a past member of the Flippin City Council. After moving to Flippin in 1970, he worked at Sanders & Son Grocery in Flippin and was a member of the Flippin Christian Church. Survivors include his wife of Flippin, AR; a son, and daughter-in-law of Asheville, NC; a of Newbern, NC; brothers, one brother and sister-in-law of Flippin, AR, one brother and sister-in-law of Noridgewood, ME and one brother and sister-in-law of FL; a sister of Plainview, CT; five grandchildren; and several great and great-great grandchildren. His parents, two brothers and one sister preceded him in death. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of January 25, 2007 issue: Deloris SANDERS, age 85, died Friday, January 19, 2007 in Houston, Texas. She was born on the Johnson farm at George's Creek on December 21, 1921 and was a graduate of Yellville-Summit schools. Deloris, She began her teaching career by riding her family's horse, Babe, from Summit to a one-room school at Cantrell in Marion County, Arkansas. She spent most of her career teaching kindergarten at Walnut Bend Elementary in Houston, Texas. Her passion for teaching was evident in her students' love for learning and in their accomplishments. Deloris was acknowledged for teaching excellence through a number of recognitions and awards. She was predeceased by her parents, Ivon KEETER JOHNSON and Jess JOHNSON of Yellville; her husband of 57 years AJ SANDERS, son of Lester and Mettie SANDERS of Flippin; and sister Augusta GRAY. Deloris had great love for her family and spent much of her leisure time researching her family history. She was an avid painter and gardener. She and AJ enjoyed sharing their farm in Chappell Hill, Texas, and home in Yellville with family and friends. Survivors include her brother and his wife Marian; her sister; three children and their spouses; six grandchildren and their spouses; eight great grandchildren. The funeral service was on Monday, the 22nd of January in Houston, Texas. The interment ceremony was at the Atkinson Cemetery in Chappell Hill, Texas. Ms. REID was born in Monticello, Iowa on October 24, 1914. She was the daughter of the late John and Ruby ELY BADER. Ms. REID was a retired garment worker for White River Industries. She was a member and deacon at the Yellville 1st Presbyterian Church, a member of the Presbyterian Women's Circle and played the piano at the Yellville Presbyterian church for many years. She was also a member of the Marion County Extension Homemakers Club and a member of the Ozark Music Center in Yellville, Arkansas. Survivors include her daughters, two of Rogers, AR and one of Yellville, AR; a son, of Sherwood, AR; a sister of Mesa, AZ; half-sisters, one of Pelican Rapids, MI, and one of St. Paul, MN; 26 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and 27 great-great grandchildren. Her parents, stepfather, three brothers, two daughters, Susan BAUER and Nancy SIMMONS, two grandsons, Arnold James MCCONAUGHY and Riley MCGAUGHEY, and one great-granddaughter Andrea MCGAUGHEY preceded her in death. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of February 8, 2007 issue: Fredrick George BELL, 85, died January 31, 2007 at Marion County Nursing Home in Yellville. He was born March 21, 1921 at Little River, Texas to John and Margaret BELL. Mr. BELL was a member of the First Baptist Church, in Yellville, Arkansas. He was a Deacon for more than 40 years. He taught Sunday School to 9 and 10 year old boys for over thirty years and had the privilege of leading most of those boys to the Lord. He worked at Todd Shipyard in Houston Texas, during World War 2, helping to build the great Liberty ships, and later was a welder at Champion Paper in Houston, Texas. He lived his entire life in Texas until marrying his second wife, widow of his deceased brother, Lawrence. She was also the younger sister of his first wife, Mayme. Following 63 and 54 year marriages, and the deaths of their first spouses, Fred and Blanche enjoyed seven wonderful years of marriage. The only thing that concerned Fred about moving to Arkansas was the colder winters. Three days after he arrived, we had the terrible month long ice storm of 2000. He wondered what he'd gotten himself into. In the following years, however, he looked forward to snow so that he could make some snow ice cream. He was a a precious man, loved by Blanche and her children, and adored by her grandchildren. He presence in their lives will be greatly missed, but his words, his example, and the memory of his love for them will remain forever. Burial was in Lockhart, Texas. He is survived, locally, by his wife; children, one son and daughter of Yellville, one son and daughter-in-law of Flippin, one daughter and son-in-law of Summit, also one son and daughter-in-law of Houston, Texas, one son and daughter-in-law of Lexington, Texas, and one daughter and son-in-law of Beaver Creek, Ohio, 18 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Mayme BELL, infant daughter Georgia, three brothers, one sister, and several infant siblings.
