Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of January 8, 2004 issue: Cratis MERRIMAN of Lakeway, Arkansas died Thursday, January 1, 2004 at Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home, Arkansas. He was 75 years old. Mr. MERRIMAN was born February 1, 1928 at Peel, Arkansas to Bill and Ollie FRIEND MERRIMAN. On April 18, 1986 he was married. He was employed as the greenskeeper for the Diamond Hills Country Club. Mr. MERRIMAN was a lifelong resident of Marion County, Arkansas. He was a Jehovah's Witness and a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness in Flippin, Arkansas. He will be best remembered for his love of music and his wide range of musical talents. Survivors include his wife of Lakeway, AR; sons, one of Summit, AR and one of Springdale, AR; stepsons, one of Hamilton, MS and one of Parker, AZ; daughters, one of Valley Springs, AR and one of Springdale, AR; stepdaughters, one of Hotchkiss, CO, one of Hamilton, MS, one of Phoenix, AZ and one of Springfield, MO; a sister of Lakeway, AR; 26 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. His parents; son, David; brothers, Otis, Guy and Joe MERRIMAN; and sisters, Amy DEATHERAGE and Essie RORIE preceded him in death. Visitation was Sunday, January 4, 2004 from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home in Yellville, AR. Funeral services were Monday, January 5, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at Burns Funeral Home in Yellville with Brother Dan GAST and Brother Jerry HALLIDAY officiating. He was 78 years old. Mr. GANT was born December 25, 1925 at Oxford, Ohio to William Harold and Emma BORNE GANT. He married Margaret Ann "Peggy" MERZ. He was employed a home construction/machinist. He served in the United State Army during World War II. Survivors include his wife, Peggy GANT of Yellville, AR; sons, Gordon F., Jr. and Christy GANT of Morristown, IN and Danny and Kathy GANT of Van Buren, OH; daughter, Melanie GANT of Wooster, OH; brother, Donald GANT of Wooster, OH; ten grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. His parents, William Harold and Emma GANT, preceded him in death. Graveside service was held Saturday, January 10, 2004 at the Nanny Cemetery in Yellville, Arkansas with Tom Bryant officiating. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of January 15, 2004 issue: Funeral services for Doris Lorraine COULTER, 89, of Flippin were held Saturday, January 12, 2004 at the Lighthouse Assembly of God Church in Flippin with Past Bill RAWLINGS officiating. Mrs. COULTER died January 8, 2004 at her residence. Lorraine D. COULTER was born February 8, 1914 at LaPel, Indiana the daughter of William J. and Nancy A. ABNEY SMITH. She married the late Clark COULTER in 1951 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Mrs. COULTER was a retired restaurant owner/operator and had moved to Flippin from Colorado in 1968. She was a dietician, loved knitting and propagating plants, and supported many ministries. She was a member of the Lighthouse Assembly of God Church. She is survived by one brother, Ronald SMITH of DeKalb, Illinois; one sister, Greta PULLIAM of Normal, Illinois; one stepson, John (Terri) HARRINGTON of Hamilton, Montana; four grandchildren, Amber, Heath, Brandon and Katie; three great-grandchildren; one nephew, George ANDERSON, one niece, Clara Mae EDGOOSE, and close friends, Anna TILLMAN and Maxine TILLMAN of Cotter, Arkansas, Dorene STONER and Kathy ROSE of Flippin, Arkansas. Doris Lorraine COULTER was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers. Burial was in the Flippin Cemetery with Brandon JACKSON, Seth STONER, Kenneth FLOYD, Ken MARBERRRY, Chance ROSE and Edward MATZ serving as pallbearers. She was 94 years old. Mrs. CATON was born July 8, 1909 at St. Joe, Arkansas to Robert V. and Martha HOBSON HONEYCUTT. She became a Christian in early life. She attended church at the Union Road Assembly of God and taught Sunday School for many years. She was a lifelong resident of Marion and Boone Counties. She liked flowers and quilting. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Tom BUFORD of Harrison, AR; granddaughters and their spouses, Tommi and Michael WASYLEWSKI of Harrison, AR and Traci and Nick JONES of Harrison, AR; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Velmer CATON in 1994, her parents, infant son, two brothers and two sisters. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of January 15, 2004 issue: John Ernest VANBOSKIRK of Yellville, Arkansas died Sunday, January 11, 2004 at his home in Yellville. He was 59 years old. Mr. VANBOSKIRK was born May 3, 1944 at Hinsdale, Illinois to John Blackwood and Florence Adrienne MCDERMOTT VANBOSKIRK. On June 2, 1972, he married Jane Elizabeth KADING. Mr. VANBOSKIRK was employed has a machine operator for Micro-Plastics in Flippin, AR. He was the former Dietary Director for the Marion County Hospital and a member of the Arkansas Dietary Managers Assoc. and had also worked at the Marion County Shirt Company. He was a graduate of Hinsdale High School (1962), attended Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana, and obtained his Bachelors Degree from the University of Iowa in 1967. He did graduate study at the University of Illinois Medical School and Northern Illinois University. Mr. VANBOSKIRK had made Marion County his home for the past 27 years. He attended the Snow Community Church and also St. John's Episcopal Church in Harrison, AR. He was a loving father, husband and faithful in his love to the Lord. Survivors include his wife Jane VANBOSKIRK of Yellville, AR; son, John Charles VANBOSKIRK of Harrison, AR; daughter, Elizabeth VANBOSKIRK of Fayetteville, AR; and brother, Bruce A. VANBOSKIRK and his wife Carol of Nederland, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, John BRAINERD and Cora VANBOSKIRK and Ernest CHARLES and Florence MCDERMOTT. Visitation was held Tuesday, January 13, 2004 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home in Yellville. Funeral service was Wednesday, January 14, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at Burns Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend JoAnn BARKER officiating. Mr. SIMPSON was born August 22, 1938 at Lackey, Kentucky. He was a retired engineer for GTE and a veteran of the United States Air Force. No visitation is scheduled and burial is private. Mr. FIELDS was born January 7, 1948 at Luverne, Minnesota to John and Adeline KRAHN FIELDS. On September 9, 1955 he married Kathleen SPATES SAUSEN FIELDS. He was employed in construction and served in the U.S. Navy. Survivors include his wife, Kathleen SAUSEN FIELDS, of Yellville, AR; daughter, Shannon FIELDS of New Bury Park, CA; mother, ADELINE KRAHN FIELDS of MN; brother, Darryl FIELDS of New Hope, MN; sister, Linda RETRUM of Blaine, MN; and one granddaughter, Emily. His father, John FIELDS, preceded him in death. A memorial service will be held at Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson, Minnesota. Burial will follow in the Dawson City Cemetery in Dawson. She was the retired Office Management Assistant for Farmer's Home Administration having worked for F.H.A. for 45 years. She was a member of the Yellville First United Methodist Church. Survivors include her sister-in-law, Viva CLARK of Atlanta, GA; cousins, Florence CRAIG of Benton, AR and Thelma HUNT of Little Rock, AR; six nieces; and three guys she called her kids, Mark, Dan and Glen DUREN. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of February 12, 2004 issue: Patrick W. "P.C." COX, 18, of Fort Smith died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004 in his home of natural causes. He was a member of the Senior Class at Greenwood High School, and was a member of the Greenwood FFA where he was the chapter vice president, Outstanding FFA Senior was awarded the Most Spirited Award, Greenhand degree, Chapter Farmer degree, State Farmer degree, and second place introduction to AgriScience and Technology. He also participated in the Electricity Career Development event, Meats Career Development event, the National FFA convention, Officer Retreat, Skeet Shoot, Plant Sale, FFA Kick-off Bon Fire, Golf Tournament, and built cabinets for the Agri Department. Funeral was at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4 at the Greenwood First Baptist Church with burial at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Highland Cemetery in Ozark under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood. He is survived by his parents, Debbie and Don COX of the home; paternal grandmother, Ruby COX of Ozark; maternal grandparents, Vernon and Frances WRIGHT of Ozark; and preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Lawrence COX. Visitation was from 4 to 9 pm. today at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p m. Pallbearers were Nick COZORT, Justin KING, Nolan BARTOW, Mark WEISENFELD, R.J. WHITWORTH, Cody FABER, Trey STEPHENS and Dustin PATRICK. Honorary pallbearers will be Greenwood Senior Class and the FFA members. Patrick's father, Donald Wayne COX graduated from Yellville-Summit High School in 1960. Donald's mother was Ruby KYLES, who was born and raised in Marion County. Mrs. BRIGGS was a housewife who loved music, sewing, quilting, tating and crocheting. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Flippin and Marion County Farm Bureau. Survivors include her son, J.B. BRIGGS, of Flippin, AR; daughter, Elizabeth Fern BRIGGS FREY of Flippin, AR; brothers, Walter L.
