MARQUIS WOODCOCK

Marquis is a descendent of John Woodcock. John arrived in the USA 1635 from Weymouth England, arrived at Attlesboro Mass. Farmer and trader. Married in 1649 and died in 1701. Ancestral home being in Warwickshire England. John was active in local affairs. His home was used as a garrison during King Phillip's War (1675-76) Once an Indian owed him some money and wouldn't pay. John took an Indian girl and some furs to even the debt. For by-passing the law, he was put in stocks in the town square for two days for punishment. He and the Indians were enemies and when he died several bullet wounds were found in his body believed to have been put there by Indians.
During the Revolutionary War descendants of John Woodcock and his 11 brothers who came to America with him, out numbered all other enlisted men from Attlesboro, Massachusetts.

Henery Woodcock ( A descendant of John Woodcock) was married twice. First wife was Kitty Simmons. They had 11 children, only name known is, Modena Frances (Frank) Woodcock. there were 8 children with his second wife. Deborah Minick. In 1848 Henery bought some land on Buffalo River in Ark. He moved to his new farm from Summner County Tennessee. of the children born to Henery 7 did not reach adulthood and are buried in the Woodcock Cemetery on the Woodcock farm. Both Henery and his first wife are buried on the farm.
The farm was a fertile one, bound on three sides by the Buffalo River. During and after the war he sold corn to those who could pay for 50 cents a bushel. but he never turned any one away empty handed if they could not pay.
During the Civil War there was a skirmish fought on this farm and the dead were buried in another cemetery on the farm.

Martin Luther Woodcock was born at Calico Rock, AR. in 1864. He married Margaret Elizabeth Yeary in 1887. 12 children was born to this union including 2 sets of twins. Uncle Luther and Aunt Betty as they were called by friends and relatives live the 60 years of their married life on their farm at Rodney, AR.
They both died just befor their 60th wedding anniversary. They died within 2 months of each other.

Floyd was a Railroad Tie inspector in Summit Ark and at one time owned the General Store in Summit
He moved from Summit Ark in 1945 to Yakima, Wash. where he worked at Hanford, Wash. until he retired. The house he built in Summit was still standing and being lived in in 2000.
