Dr. James Moore Cowdrey, emigrated from Charleston, SC, circa 1825. In the year 1829 he was living in Batesville, moving on in the 1830's, to Fayetteville, settling in Yellville, AR circa 1840.

He and Agnes were married Sep 26, 1832, Izard Co, AR, by: Rev. Thomas Law.

Between the years of 1855 and 1856 he purchased 120 acres of land in Marion County.

Dr. James Moore Cowdrey was a graduate of Ann Arbor University. He became a skillful physician and apparently was very charming and cultured. He was ruined financially during the War between the States, with his home and personal property destroyed.

He served as a surgeon in the 14^th AR Confederate Infantry under General Price.
