Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of October 5, 2006 issue: Lois Katharynn BROOMHALL, age 84, of Keokuk, Iowa died Monday evening, October 2, 2006 at River Hills in Keokuk, Iowa. Mrs. BROOMHALL was born January 24, 1922 in Flippin, Arkansas to John K. and Jane DUGGINS REA. She married J. Russell BROOMHALL on December 27, 1941 in Kahoka, Missouri. He preceded her in death on May 29, 1997. She and her husband, Russell, were employed at the Lee County Home from 1974 to 1956. From 1956 to 1959, she worked as a nurses aide at Graham Hospital. She and her husband were Superintendent and Marton of the Lee County Home from 1960 to 1975. She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross - Keokuk Chapter, Keokuk Area Hospital Auxiliary, and Historical Society. She loved to work with troubled children. She was a past recipient of Woman of Achievement from B.P.W. She loved animals, especially cats. She loved NASCAR and was a Bill Elliott fan. Survivors include her daughter of Keokuk, IA; three step-granddaughters, one of Hamilton, IL,one of St. Cloud, FL and one of Phoenix, AZ; 8 step great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law of Kahoka; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Linda Kay, four brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be Friday, October 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at DeJong's Funeral Home with Brother Bill Hauser officiating. Burial will be at Keokuk National Cemetery. Mr. TABER was born March 27, 1952 at Bay, Arkansas. He was the son of Mr. TABER and the late Wanda WILLIAMS TABER. Mr. TABER worked for Cessna Manufacturing Co. before moving to Flippin. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Vietnam War. Survivors include his wife of Flippin, AR; father of Flippin, AR; a son of Hutchinson, KS; a daughte of MT; a stepson of Mountain Home, AR; a stepdaughter of Gassville, AR; four brothers, one of Flippin, AR, Jone of Hutchinson, KS, one of Trumann, AR and one of Longview, TX; four sisters, one of Rivervale, AR, one of Flippin, AR, one of Trumann, AR and one of Alma CO; and nine grandchildren. Mr. HURST was born in Yellville on May 24, 1935. He was the son of the late Cecil I. & Maggie (WOOD) HURST. He was a Yellville native and a member of the First Baptist Church of Yellville. He served in the US Army, and was the Vice President of Operations for Brown & Root Construction Company, opening offices for Brown & Root throughout the World. She was born July 11, 1924 in Dodd City, AR a daughter of Arthur and Nellie (CLARK) QUIGLEY. Her father, Arthur QUIGLEY and her mother, NELLIE QUIGLEY ROGErS, preceded her in death along with her first husband, Elnor NEWMAN and her second husband, Eulis WHITESIDE; a son, Richard WHITESIDE; a granddaughter, Brenda Kay THOMAS; two brothers, Tommy and Doyne "Bud" QUIGLEY; and two sisters, Anna Sue and Emma Rue QUIGLEY. Juanita was a devoted member of the Bellefonte United Methodist Church where she enjoyed teaching Sunday School and having fellowship with the women's group. She also enjoyed piecing quilts, crocheting, and spending time with her ever-growing family. She worked over thirty years as a nursing assistant, twenty years of which was at NARMC. Suvivors are her seven children, one of Brumright, OK, one of Zinc, AR, one of Sands Springs, OK, one of Claremore, OK, one of Everton, AR, two of Harrison, AR, one of Snowball, AR; her brothers and sisters; thirty-seven grandchildren; forty-one great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. He was in different forms of sales throughout his life. He was a realtor in Mountain Home for several years and an antique dealer with his wife. He graduated Cum laude from Midland Lutheran College and was a member of the Delta Chi Fraternity.
