Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of August 14, 2003 issue: Marion County Coroner Dan Duran and Sheriff Carl McBee prepare to retrieve the boys of Glenn HOWARD, age 52 of Sherwood, after he was found dead floating in the Twin Coves area of Bull Shoals Lake last Tuesday evening. HOWARD died from drowning due to electrical shock from a wiring problem on his dock. After responding to a call of a possible body being spotted, Bull Shoals Police and the Marion County Sheriff's Office found the body of Glen HOWARD, age 52 of Sherwood, floating in the Twin Covers area of Bull Shoals Lake last Tuesday evening. HOWARD was found near his dock and was wearing a diving suit and scuba gear. According to Sheriff Carl McBee, the initial theory on the cause of death was a diving accident or a medical problem. McBee sent a diver into the area around the dock the next morning to search for a flipper and a weight belt that was missing from the body. The diver experienced and electrical shock while in the water near the dock, prompting an investigation as tot he cause of the shock. An electrician was called to the dock area and found that an electrical outlet on the dock was wired improperly, sending a current of up to 118 volts through the dock, dock ramp, cables and into the water. HOWARD's body was sent to the Arkansas State Police crime lab for an autopsy to determine the cause of death. The autopsy report concluded that HOWARD died from drowning caused by electrocution. McBee stated that no foul play is suspected and the death will be ruled an accident. HOWARD's family owns a house and the dock in Bill Shoals and frequently visits the area to dive. He arrived in Bull Shoals on Sunday and left his car, clothing, keys and wallet at the dock area. When he failed to report to work on Tuesday, his wife called friends in the area and asked if they would check the property and see if HOWARD was there. As they walked down the ramp to the dock, they spotted HOWARD's body floating near the shore and called the police.
