Visitation is Thursday, 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Mr. BARNETT died Monday, February 3, 2003 at Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home, Arkansas. Mr. BARNETT was born July 1, 1935 at Mount Olivet, KY to Melvin and Nettie MOORE BARNETT. He married Shirley CHERMAK on May 27, 1961 at Oak Lawn, IL. He was a Tool and Die Maker and Manager for RC Grinding. He was a resident of Flippin, AR since moving from Oak Lawn, IL in 1995. He was a 1954 graduate of Deming High School at Mount Olivet, KY. He was president of Fairview Fire Board, was a First Responder, volunteer fireman, dog lover, woodworker, avid fisherman and hunter. He served in the US Army and was a member of the Mount Olivet Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. He is survived by his wife, Shirley BARNETT of Flippin, AR; son, Brian David BARNETT and wife Janice of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Nicole, Dawn, Christian, Nicholas and Marisa; sister, Mary Jo CHANDLER of Mount Olivet, KY; brother-in-law Jack CHERMAK and wife Margie of Oak Lawn, IL; and three great-grandchildren. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of February 6, 2003 issue: Francis M. HURST of Flippin, Arkansas died Thursday, January 30, 2003 at the Twin Lakes Nursing Center in Flippin. He was 83. Mr. HURST was born March 21, 1919 at Flippin, Arkansas to Abe and Essie BRIGGS HURST. On July 4, 1939, he married LaRue HURST. He was a retired Assembly of God minister. He was a lifetime resident of Marion County and a member of the Lighthouse Assembly of God in Flippin. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II. Survivors include his daughters, Adela WILSON of Odessa, MO and Elaine SLAYINGS of Flippin, AR; brother, John HURST of Walnut Ridge, AR; sister, Virginia STONECIPHER of Yellville, AR; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. His parents and wife, LaRue, preceded him in death. Visitation was held Sunday, February 2, 2003 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home in Yellville, AR. Funeral services were held Monday, February 3, 2003 at the Lighthouse Assembly of God Church in Flippin with Reverend Joe WILMOTH officiating. Burial followed in Mountain View Cemetery in Flippin with Doyle HURST, Wes DUE, Doyne TREAT, Tom FLEMING, Hal HURST and Bill BURKHART serving as pallbearers. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of February 6, 2003 issue: Earl E. SMITH of Yellville, Arkansas died Thursday, January 23, 2003 at his home in Yellville. He was 78. Mr. SMITH was born October 27, 1924 at Guion, Arkansas to Everett and Lucy BROOKS SMITH. On August 10, 1947, he married Evelyn HERWIG SMITH. Mr. SMITH was a retired school psychologist for schools in California and Arkansas. He resided in Marion County since 1980 moving here from San Pablo, California. He was a member of the Yellville United Methodist Church, NEA and Optimist Club. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Smith of Yellville, AR; sons, Gail SMITH and wife Cheryl of San Diego, CA and Carlton SMITH and wife Brenda of Yellville, AR; sister, Kathrine KLING of San Luis Obispo, CA; and four grandchildren. A memorial service was held Sunday, February 2, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the Yellville United Methodist Church with Reverend Charles ASHCRAFT officiating. Burial was private. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of February 6, 2003 issue: Daniel C. LANIER, Jr. of Flippin, Arkansas died Thursday, January 30, 2003 at Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home, Arkansas. He was 83. Mr. LANIER was born March 17, 1919 at Ada, Oklahoma to Daniel C., Sr. and Lillian LASITER LANIER. On November 9, 1942, he married Helen BERRYHILL. Mr. LANIER was a retired Superintendent of Building Services for the City of Long Beach, California. He was employed by the City of Long Beach from 1950 until 1976. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army. Mr. LANIER enlisted in the Army in 1940 and was discharged in 1941. He was recalled to duty and served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps until his discharge on December, 3, 1945. After his discharge, he lived in Long Beach, California until his retirement in 1976, when he moved to Flippin, AR. Survivors include his wife, Helen LANIER of Flippin, AR; and sons, David A. LANIER and his wife Terrie of Long Beach, CA and Phillip T. LANIER and wife Diane of Mountain Home, AR. His parents preceded him in death. Visitation was held Sunday, February 2, 2003 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home in Yellville. Funeral services were held Monday, February 3, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at Burns Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. DEWEY died on Monday, February 10th, 2003 at Baxter Regional Medical Center. Visitation will be held from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 12th, 2003 at Burns Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Flippin Cemetery in Flippin Arkansas with Jimmy WAGONER, Kenneth JEFFERSON, Rick BELL, Ron RICHTER, James HUDSON, and Tim DEWEY serving as pallbears. He married Lillian KING on August 19, 1950 with whom he had nine children. After her death, he married Carol WHEELER on June 6th, 2001. He retired from Entergy as a meter reader and enjoyed gardening and quilting in Flippin during retirement. He was an active member of the Flippin Church of God. He is survived by his wife, Carol DEWEY; sons, Harold DEWEY of Gainesville, Missouri, Johnny DEWEY of Gepp, Arkansas, Michael DEWEY of Gassville, Arkansas, David DEWEY of Gassville, Arkansas, Heath HOGAN of Flippin, Arkansas; daughters, Julia HOLLAWAY of Flippin, Arkansas, Linda DEWEY of Mountain Home, Arkansas, Diane MENDOZA of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Trudy BUCCI of Mountain Home, Arkansas; brothers, Cecil DEWEY of Mountain Home, Arkansas, Virgil DEWEY of Flippin, Arkansas, and Melvin DEWEY of Wellington, Missouri; sisters, Letha BAKER of California, and Irene HARRIS of Louisburg, Kansas. Mr. MAGDEFRAU died Tuesday, February 11, 2003 at Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home, Arkansas. He was born November 1, 1933 at Genosea, IL to Leo Carl MAGDEFRAU and Frances LOOMIS MAGDEFRAU. He married Lela B. SHURTLEFF on September 23, 1958 at Reno, NV. Formerly of Memphis, Tennessee, he was a resident of Lakeview, Arkansas since 1994. He was an insurance salesman for Wausau Insurance Company. He was a graduate of University of Memphis, and was Episcopalian. He was a member and past president of the Raleigh Optimis Club. He was a tool collector and a member of the Mid-West Tool Collector's Association, a member of the NRA, and a past member of the Baxter County Republican Committee. Mr. MAGDEFRAU served in the US Air Force during Korea and Vietnam, and was past commander of the Alley-White American Legion Post #52. He is survived by his wife, Lela MAGDEFRAU; two daughters, Shari BARNES and husband Mark of Mountain Home and Nola COLEMAN and husband Jim of Orlando, FL; son, Frank MAGDEFRAU and wife Gigi of Hernando, MS; brother, Jay MAGDEFRAU of Cordova, TN; and three grandsons, Mike, Harrison, and Jackson. SHERMAN, 89 of Yellville, Arkansas died on Wednesday, February 12, 2003 at Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home, Arkansas. There will be no service for Mr. SHERMAN and the burial will be private. Mr. SHERMAN was born on April 4, 1913 in Grozback, Texas to Charlie and Alice SHERMAN. He was retired from Harton Construction Co. where he was a Heavy Equipment Operator. He was also in the Army and was a veteran of WWII. He moved to Marion County in 1996 from Texas. SHERMAN is survived by his daughters, Marlene SUMRALL of Yellville, Arkansas and Marjorie SHERMAN of Kilgore, Texas; seven grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, three sons, three daughters, two brothers and two sisters.

Mr. SUDDETH was born March 14, 1935 at Chicago, Illinois to Robert R. and Lola M. BOND SUDDETH. In 1961 at Camden, Maine, he married Glenn Ann PAYSON. Mr. SUDDETH had been a resident of Promise Land since 1986. He was self-employed in the heat and air conditioning business. He enjoyed fishing and was very mechanical. He enjoyed fixing things. He was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard. Mr. SUDDETH was a Protestant by faith. Survivors include his wife, Glenn Ann SUDDETH of Promise Land, AR; three sisters, Lois HUNT of Chicago, IL, Mary MOORE of Chicago, IL and Peggy ARLEDGE of Warrior, AL; two brothers, Thomas SUDDETH of Birmingham, AL and Clifford SUDDETH of Warrior, AL; and several nieces and nephews. His parents preceded him in death. No visitation was scheduled. Funeral services and burial were private. The Reverend Warren Sorenson officiated. Burial was at El Rancho Pioneer Cemetery in Simi Valley, California. Mr. CLINE was born in Yellville, Arkansas. He was the son of late Jim and Millie CLINE of Yellville, Arkansas. He and his wife, Amanda WOOD CLINE, moved to Brawley, California in 1933. They were residents of Brawley for 53 years. He was preceded in death by his wife in 2002. He and his late wife, Amanda, were married for 73 years. Mr. CLINE worked for the City of Brawley, California. He was an Engineering Aide for 36 years. He retired in 1972. He and his late wife, Amanda moved to Simi Valley, California in 1986 to be near their son, Allen and family. Survivors include his son Allen and daughter-in-law, Blanche CLINE of Simi Valley, California, two grandchildren, Donald CLINE of Rolling Hills Estates, California and Michael CLINE of Chatsworth, California, four great grandchildren, Lance, Scott, Carrie and Matthew CLINE, a niece, Jimmy Sue ROTENBERRY of Yellville, Arkansas, two nephews, Jim and Phil CLINE of Yakima, Washington, and a sister-in-law, Moleen CLINE of Yakima, Washington.

He was born November 22, 1922, in Eros, Arkansas, a son of Lee and Eva CASEY STANLEY. He was a foreman for Claridge Products, working in the paint room. He was of the Baptist Faith. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters. Survivors include his wife, Margie WAGONER STANLEY of the home; one son, Don and his wife, Terrie DEERE STANLEY of Harrison; one daughter, Wilma HORTON and her husband Dean of Rogers; one sister, Nola ASHLEY of Yakima, Washington; five grandchildren, Todd HORTON, Vanessa HARPER, Lisa HICKS, Elizabeth CANTWELL and Sarah HENRY, and seven great grandchildren. Services were at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 24, at Holt Memorial Chapel with Darvin RAINBOLT officiating. Burial was in Stanley Cemetery at Eros, Arkansas. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of February 27, 2003 issue: Mona WRIGHT CLAWSON, 88, Bull Shoals, passed away February 20, 2003. She had moved to the Twin Lakes area in December of 2002. She is survived by one son, Dale CLAWSON of Salem, New Hampshire; two daughters, Bea METZGER of Leesburg, Florida and Madelyn GARRETT of Bull Shoals, Arkansas. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandson. Internment will be in Lafayette, Indiana. Kirby-Boaz is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. PYLE was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church, member of the Quilting Club and Home Demonstration Club. Survivors include her daughters, Guila DAVENPORT and husband Odale of Yellville, AR and Faye WOOD and husband Lyle of Flippin, AR; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 19 great great-grandchildren. Connie grew up in Yellville, Arkansas and has made northwest Indiana her home for most of her life and retired from U.S. Steel Tube Works several years ago. She leaves to cherish her memory her mother, Augusta WACASTER of Springdale, AR; one daughter, Linda ROBISON of Crown Point, IN; and one son, James M. ROBISON of Hobart, IN; two sisters, Carolyn KNIGHT of Siloam Spring, AR; and Tommie (Fred) GRIM of Green Forest, AR; on brother, Jim (Renetta) WACASTER of Springdale, AR; her grandson, Michael ROBISON of Lake Station, IN; and granddaughter, Michele (John) GREVE of Valparaiso, IN; and was loved by her many nieces and nephews. She was born May 28, 1925 in Poteau, OK to Boyd and Lillian (CLEM) PATTERSON. She was united in marriage July 19, 1939 in Poteau, OK to Ralph Odell HOBBS and to this union five children were born. She was a member of Goodson Missionary Baptist Church at the time of her passing. She was saved in July of 1944 in Shafter, CA and baptized in the Baptist Church of Williams, OK, in 1946. She had been a surgical technician at Ahrens Clinic in Yellville, AR for over 30 years, and a retired nurse. Survivors include her five children: Brenda and Rod HARRIS of Portland, OR, June and Delbert SIMPSON of Bolivar, MO, Ann Smith of Flippin, AR, Stephen and Judy HOBBS of Yellville, AR and Lynn and Bill SHARP of Dover, AR; 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren; one great great-grandchild and numerous niece and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ralph Hobbs in January of 2002, a sister and a brother. Funeral services for Mrs. Hobbs will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday February 28, 2003 in Pitts Chapel with Bro. Mike MCCUNY. Musical selections will be offered by Goodson Missionary Baptist Church Choir and a solo by David BARHAM. Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Garden Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David SHARP, Chris SHARP, Alan SIMPSON, Randy SMITH, Bryan BENEDICT and Galen COX. Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin KAUL, Michael KAUL, Ryan SEE, Harold Dean ARTER, Richard AHRENS, Bob AHRENS and Stan STRINGER. Visitation will be held from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Arrangements were under the direction of Pitts Chapel in Bolivar.

She was 96. Mrs. MCCAIN was born January 10, 1907 at Patterson, LA to Joseph Eugene and Frances TRELLUE MUNSON. Formerly of Santa Rosa, CA, Mrs. MCCAIN had been a resident of Bull Shoals since 1993. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her daughters, Rosalind OLMO and husband Robert of Bull Shoals, AR and Dorothy CONKLIN and husband Clarence of Clear Lake, CA; six grandchildren including Katharine MITCHELL of Bull Shoals, AR, Laura A of Bull Shoals, AR, Jeff HAMBEY of Bull Shoals, AR, Thomas WHEELER of Santa Rosa, CA, Linda BARBER of Clear Lake, CA and Ken BARBER of AL; 12 great-grandchildren; and 5 great great-grandchildren. Her parents; husband, the late Thomas Irwin MCCAIN; two brothers, Joseph Eugene and Jim MUNSON; grandson, Gary Lee BARBER; and son in law, Tom MITCHELL; preceded her in death. Mrs. MACK was born April 21, 1918 at Waycross, Georgia the daughter of James R. and Grace WRIGHTSON ARTEBERRY. On December 30, 1999 she married Velmar MACK at Bull Shoals, Arkansas. Mrs. MACK was a homemaker. She was a member of the Hoevel-Barnett VFW Post #1341 and the Bull Shoals Presbyterian Church. Formerly of Elkhorn, WI, she was a resident of Bull Shoals since 1973. Survivors include her husband, Velmar MACK of Bull Shoals, AR; and sons, Donald GROZIS of N. Aurora, IL and James GROZIS of St. Charles, IL. Her parents, first husband, Anton GROZIS and brother, Harrold ARTEBERRY preceded her in death. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at Kirby-Boaz Funeral Home in Bull Shoals with Dr. Fred Taylor officiating. No visitation is scheduled. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2003 at 2:00 P.M. in the First United Methodist Church in Bull Shoals. Visitation was from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Kirby-Boaz Funeral Home Chapel in Bull Shoals. Burial will be in the Newton Flat Cemetery with James NOLAN, Crystal THEEL, Tiffany NORMAN, Misty WAUGH, Larry NORMAN, and Craig FRASER serving as pallbearers. Mrs. CROW was born Feb. 15, 1912, at Warsaw, Mo. to James and Frances JONES STARK. She married Everett CROW on September 24, 1932 in Iowa. The couple moved to Bull Shoals in 1952 and built Crow-Barnes Resort, now Bel'Arco Resort, just as Bull Shoals Lake was beginning to fill with water. The Crows later built Mar Mar Resort in 1955 and Imperial Resort in 1964. She was co-developer of Woodstone Subdivision, Rivercliff Golf Course and Subdivision and Village Mart Shopping Center with partner Roy DANUSER. She is survived by her daughter, Marcene CROW of Gassville; four grandchildren, James Everett NOLAN of Flippin, Crystal Marcene (Brad) THEEL of Chandler, Ariz, Tiffany (Larry) NORMAN of Bull Shoals and Misty Marcene WAUGH of Flippin; and six great-grandchildren, Journey NOLAN, Torin NOLAN, Amber FRASER, Storm NOLAN, Brody THEEL and Zane E. WAUGH. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four brothers, three sisters and one great grandson, Dalton James TROUT. Mrs. NUTZHORN was a bookkeeper and general accountant. She was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Art NUTZHORN; son, Art NUTZHORN, Ill; daughter, Nancy FRIT; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Her parents, one brother and one sister preceded her in death. Services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 2, 2003 at the Bethel Baptist Church in Lakeview with Reverend Mark Norris officiating.
