Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of May 8, 2003 issue: Bernice C. SULLIVAN of Yellville, Arkansas died Thursday, May 1, 2003 at her residence. She was 84. Mrs. SULLIVAN was born November 30, 1918 at Yellville, Arkansas the daughter of John Oliver and Hernanda Elizabeth SMITH MCENTIRE. On February 28, 1948, she married Jim SULLIVAN. Mrs. SULLIVAN was retired from the Quality Control Department at Baxter Lab. She was a lifetime resident of Marion County. She was a member of the Yellville First Baptist Church, Ukulele Band and formerly active in the Marion County Home Demonstration Club and Woodman of the World Society. Survivors include her husband, Jim SULLIVAN of Yellville, AR; son, Don CRIGLER and wife Linda of Yellville, AR; daughter, Sara GILLILAND and husband Jack of Yellville, AR; three grandchildren, LaDonna FOTENOPOLAS and husband Mike, Katie BADER and husband Robby and Brad GILLILAND; one great-grandchild, Kennedy Paige FOTENOPOLAS; three nieces, Carolyn MEARS, Kat KASTNING and Jan BEAVERS and several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Onimus MCENTIRE and one sister, Beatrice "Jim" MCENTIRE. Visitation was held Saturday, May 3, 2003 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home in Yellville. Funeral services were held Sunday, May 4, 2003 at 3:00 pm. at the Yellville First Baptist Church with Brother Tim CYPERT and Brother Jack GILLILAND officiating. Burial followed in the Patton Cemetery in Pyatt, Arkansas with D.L. MCENTIRE, Harold MEARS, Tim BEAVER, Shawn BEAVER, Jim PLY, Gerald RICHARDSON and Chuck REIMER. Honorary pallbearers were the members of the Ruth Sunday School Class, Ukulele Band, Yellville-Summit Class of 1938, Harvey "Shorty" BEAVER, Cecil KASTNING, Jr. J.C. HALL, Vernon PARKER, Paul TAYLOR and Dr. Rolland BAILEY. Memorials may be made to the Patton Cemetery or Pleasant Ridge Cemetery or Yellville First Baptist Church. Mrs. MATHIS was born June 24, 1924 at Welcome Home, Arkansas to Jasper and Beulah KIMBRELL NEWTON. Formerly of Marshall, Arkansas, Mrs. MATHIS was a homemaker and member of the Marshall Church of God. Survivors include her sons, Charles MATHIS, Melvin MATHIS and Wayne MATHIS all of Marshall, AR; daughters, Evelyn EVANS of Yellville, AR and Judy TREADWELL of Harrison, AR; sister, Ruth NEWTON of Marshall, AR; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Visitation was held Monday, May 5, 2003 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Roller-Coffman Funeral Home. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 6, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at Roller-Coffman Chapel with Minister Bill Mann officiating. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Illinois. Alice FURR died Saturday, May 3, 2003 at Baxter Regional Medical Center. She was born June 7, 1922 at Oak Park, IL to Francis and Mildred BLOOMART. She married James Ray FURR, Sr. on September 15, 1945 at Chicago, IL. She was a Fine China Buyer for Marshall Field's Department Store. She was a resident of Bull Shoals, AR since moving from Chicago, IL in 1987. She was a Navy Veteran of WWII, and was a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Bull Shoals. She was a member of the Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and one sister. She is survived by a son-Jim FURR of Hanover Park, IL; a sister-Virginia (Frank) STETLER; three grandchildren-Kristopher, Ryan, and Kirsten FURR of Napierville, IL; and many nieces and nephews. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of May 15, 2003 issue: Arthur E. MALACKY of Yellville, Arkansas died Saturday, May 10, 2003 at the Marion County Nursing Home in Yellville. He was 89. Mr. MALACKY was born July 3, 1913 at Peabody, Kansas to Edward and Amelia KIRSTE MALACKY. He was a retired Civil Engineer for Boeing Aircraft. He graduated from Peabody High School in Peabody, KS in 1932. He graduated from Kansas State University with a BS Degree in Civil Engineering in 1937. He participated in the Kansas State University ROTC program. He was a retired Major in the United States Army and served during World War II. His hobbies included playing bridge, poker, coin collecting and antiques. Survivors include daughter, Susan WENDEL and her husband Dick of Yellville, AR; sisters, Gertrude "Bobby" MCINTOSH of Los Angles, CA and Lillian M. PAUL of Peabody, KS; two grandchildren, Alicia DRAKE and Melissa RAULERSON; and five great-grandchildren, Rachel DRAKE, Danielle DRAKE, Hunter RAULERSON, Peyton RAULERSON and Addison RAULERSON. His wife, AnnaBel BERRY MALACKY; parents, two brothers, Otto and Edward; and two sisters, Elsie and Clara, preceded him in death. He has lived in the Mountain Home area since 1985 and enjoyed watching television and listening to music. He was employed at Baxter Regional Hospital for 12 years and lived in Mountain Home, Norfork and Lakeview for 25 years, moving from Kansas City, Mo. He was a 1979 graduate of Norfork and loved to hike and fish. After 24 years of service as a road grader operator, he a retired from the Marion County Road Department. Mr. YOCHAM spent 12 years as a guide on Bull Shoals Lake. He enjoyed raising cattle and was a member of Farm Bureau. Survivors include his wife, Carman BILLINGS YOCHAM of Peel, AR; sons, Darrell YOCHAM of Peel, AR and Donnell YOCHAM of Everton, AR; sisters, Faye TOLIVER of Peel, AR and Vergie BOWSHIER of Harrison, AR; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. In high school, he was all conference in baseball and played varsity football for Yellville. He was a "country boy" who loved hunting deer and turkey, liked fishing and listening to country music. He was a member of the Wild Turkey Federation. He was also a member of the Riverside Church of Christ in Gassville. He was baptized into Christ on May 17, 1995. Mountaineer Echo Newspaper Week of June 5, 2003 issue: Jane H. Estes of the Mountaineer Echo Newspaper: William "Chad" HODGES, 21, of Flippin died Friday, May 30 from a gunshot wound to the head. According to Marion County Sheriff Carl MCBEE, the Sheriff's Department received a call at approximately 7:15 p.m. from family members who found HODGES at his resident. MCBEE added that initial reports reflect that the gunshot wound was apparently self-inflicted. MCBEE said that the Flippin Fire Department First Responders, Baxter Regional Medical Center (BRMC) paramedics and the Air Evac flight crew treated HODGES on the scene before transporting him to BRMC. HODGES was pronounced dead at approximately 8:20 p.m. His body has been sent to the Arkansas State Medical Examiner to undergo an autopsy. "I would like to thank the Flippin Fire Department, BRMC paramedics and the Air Evac flight crew for their diligent efforts and continuing excellence in providing emergency medical services for the citizens of Marion County," MCBEE said.
