She was born May 16, 1923, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mattie Covington. She was a retired Dietician and a member of the Flower Club and Social Club. Survivors include 5 daughters, Shirley (Charles) Graham of Glendora, CA, Christine Alexander of Altadena, CA, Mattie Jackson, Bertha Jackson, and Lola Jackson, all of Warren; 3 sons, James (Eula) Jackson, Curtis Jackson and Christopher Jackson, all of Warren; 16 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends and a special friend Mevelyn Jones. Funeral services were Saturday, March 23, 2002, at St. James A.M.E. Church with Rev. Jessie Washington officiating. Burial was in Union Cemetery by Hammons Funeral Home. JACOBS, Melvin Melvin Jacobs, age 72, died August 20, 2000, at the Beverly Nursing Home. He was born August 31, 1927, the son of the late Pete and Fannie Jacobs. Survivors include 2 nieces, Lenetta White and Shirley Perry (Hart) of Nashville, TN; a great nephew, James Hampton, Jr., Nashville, TN; a sister-in-law, Ella Joyce Jacobs, Warren; a devoted friend, Louievena Rightout; cousins, great nieces, nephews and friends. JAMERSON, Tillis Tillis Jamerson, age 89, died January 25, 2001, at Bradley County Medical Center. He was born September 24, 1911, the son of the late Dave and Rena Jamerson of Warren. He was a retired lumber grader at Potlatch. JENKINS, Fannie Fannie M. Jenkins, age 92, died February 14, 2001, at Wagnon Place Nursing Home. She was born December 7, 1908, the daugher of the late Lee and Julia Marks in New Edinburg. She was a homemaker and a member of Greenland Baptist Chruch. Survivors include 8 daughters, Opal Anderson of West Helena, AR, Suedean Broughton, Pauline Draper and Geraldine Hutchins of Chicago, IL, Dorothy Beasley and Paulette Jacobs of Milwaukee, WI, Julia Jensen of Flint, MI, and Helen Boswell of Warren; 5 sons, Doyle Jenkins of San Diego, CA, Thomas Jenkins of Stone Mountain GA, James and Claude Jenkins Jr., both of Milwaukee, WI, Lincoln Jenkins of Chicago, IL One son, Leonard, preceded her in death. JOHNSON, Rosie Lee Rosie Lee Johnson, age 90, of Warren, died December 20, 2002, at Wagnon Place Nursing Home. She was born March 1, 1912, in Johnsville, the daughter of the late Harrison and Rhodie Rogers Trotter. She was a homemaker. Survivors include one son, Willie Earl (Annie) Johnson of Chicago, IL; five daughters, Willie Brandy and Jacqueline Simon of Chicago, IL, Jeannette Armstong of Monrovia, CA, Mary York of Warren, Florence Gibson and Jessica (Sydney) Duhe of Baton Rouge, LA; two sisters, Charlene Harrison of Crossett and Clorene Belin of Woodbridge, VA; two brothers, Earnest Trotter of Detroit, MI and Robert (Inell) Trotter of Crossett; one sister-in-law, Reola Hemphill of Johnsville; two very dear friends, Cardell Williams and Perry Green; 18 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Johnson, 10 siblings, one son, Roy Johnson, Jr. and two grandchildren, Bruce Benson and Tamikia York. JONES, Thomas, Sr. Thomas "Nanky" Jones, Sr., age 60, died April 10, 2001, at Bradley County Medical Center. He was born January 21, 1941, the son of the late C.B. and Catherine Jones of Hermitage. He was a truck driver and a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, Icephine Jones; 2 sons, Thomas Jones, Jr. and Casey (Vanessa) Jones, both of Nashville, TN; one daughter, Kathy Jones of Warren; 2 sisters, Bertha Jones and Gloria (James) Daniels, both of Warren; 2 aunts, Elmira Ausby and Theartha Jones, both of Wichita, KS; 9 grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and other family members. Funeral services were Saturday, April 14, 2001, at the Church of Christ on West Central Street, Bro. Robert Waller officiated. Burial was in Harding Cemetery by Hammons Funeral Home. JONES, Wardell Wardell Albert Jones, age 74, died May 20, 2001. He was born November 27, 1926, in Warren, the son of Daniel and Ester Jones. Upon graduating from high schol in 1944, he joined the U.S. Navy and served 2 years. He attended the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in mathmatics. In the early 1950s he moved to Flint, Michigan. He retried from General Motors after 37 years of service. Survivors include one son, Marcus A. Jones of Flint, MI; one grandson, Marcus A. Jones, JR. of Flint, MI; Stephanie D. White of Cincinnati, OH, whom Mr. Jones considered as a daughter; a devoted and loving friend Dorothy Davis of Muscle Shoals, AL; and cusins, Esther Bradket of Warren and Kecia Lee Fells of Little Rock. He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Esther Jones; and a cousin whom he referred to as a brother, Rev. Frank Bradley. Funeral services were Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Flint, Michigan, with Dr. Roy I. Greer, Sr., officiating. Burial was in River Rest Cemetery in Flint. Pallbearers were friends of the family and members of the ch;urch. Flower bearers were the Mt. Olive Baptist Church family and friends of the family. LARRY, Donald Donald Harold Larry, age 54, died March 7, 2001, in Bradley County Medical Center. He was born October 4, 1946, the son of the late Willie Larry, Sr. and Bessie Ingram Larry. Survivors include one daughter, Bridgette Larry, Milwaukee, WI; four brothers, Dwight Larry, Little Rock, Willie Lee Larry, Jr., Milwaukee, WI, Allen C. Larry, Racine, WI, and Amos Stepps, Enic, OK; one sister, Carolyn Larry, Milwaukee, WI; nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral serviceswere Saturday, March 10, at Hammons Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Eddie Rice, Sr., officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olive Cemetery. LEAKS, Milton Milton Leaks, age 82, died September 26, 2001 at Wagnon Place Nursing Home in Warren. Survivors include 6 sons, Tharman Leaks of Marvell, Norman Leaks and Milton Leaks, Jr., of Camden, Roy Leakes of Oklahoma City, OK, Caly Leaks of North Carolina and LeErnest Leaks of New Edinburg; 3 daughters, Mildred McCree of Warren, Missie Radford of Camden and Ruth Willliams of Bearden; and 23 grandchildren. Funeral services were Wednesday, October 3, 2001 at the Mt. Zion A.M.E. Zion Church in Warren with Rev. Lindsey officiating. Interment was in New Zion Cemetery in Warren. Arrangements were by Reddick Funeral home of Warren. LEAKS, Sefronnie Sefronnie Leaks, age 77, of Warren, died Sunday, December 2, 2001. She was born July 28, 1924, in Summerfield, Louisiana, she was the daughter of the late Cleveland Gant and Daisy Leamgston. Survivors include 9 sons, George Moore and Johnny (Kelly) Leaks, both of Warren, Floyd Lee (Faye) Leaks Jr., of New Edinburg, Bishop Leaks, Levester Leaks, Lonnie (Cindy) Leaks, Donald Ray Leaks, Larry (Kelly) Leaks, and Randy Leaks, all of Minneapolis, MN; 4 daughters, Willie Pearl (Arthur) Wilkerson of New Edinburg, Elsie Ray (Ray Charles) Dupree of Milwaukee, WI, Maybeline (Paul) Fudge and Sandy Leaks, both of Minneapolis, MN; 32 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren; special friends, Mr. and Mrs. Mathew Swinney, Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Swinney, and Sis Georgia Wallace; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. LEWIS, Eva Mrs. Eva V. Lewis died Thrusday, September 27, 2002, in Danane Ivory Coast, West Africa. She was born September 1, 1919, in Sassa County, Liberia. She accepted the Lord at an early age and became a member of the Evening Star Baptist Church. She was married to Francis H. Lewis, Sr., for 52 years. Her husband and one son, Francis H. Lewis, Jr., preceded her in death. "Ma Eva", as she was affectionately known, accomplished much during her lifetime. She was decorated by the late President Tolbert of Liberia for her humanitarian services. She received the highest honor of any woman in that country. She was a Deaconess, Matron, Mother of Advisory Board of several churches, Past Grand Matron of Deborah Chapter OES No. 11 of Kakata & Grand Lecturer, and Past Grandmatron. She helped build and was the founder of the Baptist Church in Bong Maines, Liberia. She wa a nurse and instructor of midwifery. She worked with the Red Cross where she taught nutritian and family planning in Kakata and Bong Mines, Liberia. She served as the Director Director of the Public Health Clinic in Katata for over 25 years before the hospital was established. She spoke 25 different dialects of the various tribes of Africa. Survivors include Euphemia (Fee-Fee) and Calvin Jones, Francine and Maria Cannon, all of Warren, Maiatoniette Phillips of Burmouth Dorset, England, Magdaline and Robert Sumo James of Rahway, New Jersey, Willimena and Cephus Agby of Kansas City, Kansas; 27 grandchildren; step-children; a host of foster children; nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Chruch in Warren at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, October 12, 2002. Burial will be at Providence Baptist Church in Monrovia, Liberia. LOWRY, Mable Rodgers Mabel Rodgers Lowry, age 75, of Hermitage, died March 25, 1993, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center at Pine Bluff. She was born January 2, 1918 at Warren, a daughter o the late Dan Rodgers and Beulah Rice Robers. She was a homemaker, a member of the Hermitage United Methodist Chruch and the widow of Charles Edward Lowry, who died October 23, 1990. Surviving are two daughters, Jacqueline Johnson and Diann Bethea both of Hermitage; one brother, troy Rodgers, Hermitage. One sister Hazel Stedman, Warren; 5 grandchildren, Carline Pearce, Tammy Barnett, Tara Cicirello, Neil Williams and Lori Williams; five great grandchildren. Funeral services were 4 p.m. Saturday, March 27 at Palestine United Methodist Chruch by Rev. Wayman Mann and Rev. Wayne Bell. Buddy Boykin played and Karen Boykin sang. Burial was in Palestine Cemetery by Frazer's Funeral Home. Active pallbearers were Rodney Boykin, Robbie Lowry, Mike Ashcraft, Phillip Ferrell, Timmy Boykin, Danny York and Clay Lowry. Honory pallbearers were Otha Temple, Lamar Temple, Dale Weatherly, Milford Dees, Bailey MacHargis, Kriby Bowman and James Temple.
