Cemeteries
These cemetery listings are contained in a book titled Desha County, Arkansas Cemetery Records. These lists were compiled by the men and women of Desha County in 1968 and 1969 and published by the late Mrs. Marion McKinney Stroud. Desha County Historical Society President Michael Jones graciously gave Louis Reitzammer permission to reprint them here, for which researchers are forever grateful. We are also grateful to the men and women of Desha County who took their time to list all the names.
On the first page of the publication is a picture of Gordon Thurman of Rohwer, county surveyor; George P. Kelley, secretary of the Desha County Historical Society and amateur archaeologist, and Gerald Hobson of Rohwer, woodsman, surveyor and history buff standing around the tombstone of Henry Smith and his wife, Cecilia Gibson Smith near the site of Napoleon. Napoleon was swallowed by the river in the 1870s.
