McArthur Cemetery
McArthur Cemetery, Desha County, Clayton Township: just east of Highway 1 on Bayou Macon Road.
(It is
believed that the first grave in this cemetery was that of Sarah Malinda
Stephenson Stroud. She was born in Mississippi
in 1825, moved to Desha County, Ark., in 1867 after the Civil War when her
husband, Joseph P. Stroud, died and was buried near the river in Bolivar
County, Miss. They were the parents of
George W. Stroud, born Jan. 6, 1860 in Bolivar County and died at McArthur Jan.
1943. G.W. is buried in the Tillar
Cemetery, Drew County, with his second wife Mary Frances Harvey (1865-1943).
