Community News
The grim reaper, death, has again evaded our community and taken from our midst one of our best young ladies, in the person of Miss Mamie Rector,
daughter of Mrs Cora Rector. Miss Mamie died of pneumonia, Sunday night near the hour of 12 M. at the age of about 17 years. The body was laid to rest in the Melbourne Cemetery Monday afternoon. Eld. Moses Cooper conducting the funeral service.
Apr 9, 1920 - Obituary
The death angel has again been in our midst and claimed for it's victim, Mamie Rector.
For weeks physicians and loved ones did all in their power to stay the fell destroyer, but all to no purpose; she gradually grew worse till 12 o'clock, Sunday night Feb 29th 1920, when her spirit wended it's way into eternity. She was near the age of 17 years, intelligent, loving and young; yet called to go. The ways of providence are mysterious, some times in the bright "beyond" we shall know why it was best to give her up. Now we can only meekly bow and say "Thy will be done." All things work together for good to those who love the Lord.
She was a member of the Baptist Church at Melbourne. Her short life has been spent among us; teachers, school mates intimate friends and associates, truthfully say, "to know her was to love her." No more will her glad smile greet us at church, in the social gatherings, or at home; but the Mamie you loved so dearly, is safe with Jesus. His hands can shelter and guide her better than yours. No trouble can ever wrinkle her brow. Weep not dear loved ones, Mamie isn't dead but only sleeping. May you all be as ready, when the Savior calls, as she.. Then, in the sweet by-and-by, you can become a unbroken family living in the Saviors love. --------- Written by two Friends.

Tribute of Respect
In memory of Sovereign Drew Reynolds, who was made a Woodman of the World at Mt. Olive, Ark. Sept. 21, 1907 and who was called to the Grand Camp above Apr. 24, 1908.
Dear Sovereigns of Mt. Olive Camp, No 570 – for the first time in the history of this Camp, Grim Death has visited us and claimed for its victim Sov. Drew Reynolds.
Sov. Reynolds was an exemplary, energetic, industrious young man; just blooming into vigorous young manhood and his death was a severe shock to the entire community in which he lived. We as mortal beings, cannot understand why God, in His goodness and mercy plucks from amongst us the sweetest flowers and most precious jewels: but some day we will understand why it is thus. The death of Sov. Reynolds reminds us that we will be called upon to answer the summons, "Come up higher," and may it admonish us to live, that when it does come, we will be prepared to meet "Him who gave his life, that we, though His name might have life eternal.'' Be it therefore.
That we bow in humble submission, to the will of "Him who doeth all things well." That woodcraft has lost a faithful exponent. That we set apart a page in our Record Book to the memory of Sovereign Reynolds, and that these Resolutions be spread at length upon same; and a copy be sent his bereaved and sorrowing mother and a copy to each of our county papers for publication.
Respectfully submitted: Knox Hayden, Chas. E. Jeffery, Jeffery Dixon

"Mammie" was born in Tennessee and came to this state when very young and had lived here since that time. She was a loving member of the family and a friend to all who knew her. She joined the Missionary Baptist Church years ago and was a faithful member until death. She was the mother of eight children, four of whom survive her, as follows; Mrs Fannie Walker, of Longworth, Texas; Tommie Landers of Douglass, Arizona; Johnie Landers of Granite, Oklahoma; Mrs Dora Sheffield of Guion. She also raised an orphan girl, Mrs Laura Cold, Cold Springs, Oklahoma.
"Mammie" had been living with her children twenty years or more and Oh' how sad we are to give her up, but as we all know she wanted to die and was ready we fell relieved to know that she is not suffering not but is resting in the arms of Jesus. -------- A Grand Daughter
