Mrs Sarah Majors Died at Age 93 Years
Mrs Sarah Majors, Probably the oldest person in this part of the state, died at the home of a son, Calvin Majors, across the river from Calico Rock, Thursday night of last week.
She has lived in this county the greater part of her life and was the oldest of a large family of children, the youngest of whom, Wm. T. Clark of Calico Rock is the only immediate relative surviving. She has been unusually active for one of her age and even in the last months of her life was blessed with a memory that was a storehouse of reminiscences of her girlhood. Her death removes a noble character and ends a long life of usefulness.
Besides her brother, W. T. Clark, she is survived by two sons, Calvin and James of Calico Rock and a daughter, Mrs Jas. Taylor of Huron.
Burial took place in Spring Creek cemetery Saturday morning, following the funeral at Spring Creek church, conducted by Eld. D. A. Hively.

W. H. McCuistian Dies at Violet Hill-
Walter H. McCuistian 86 year-old resident of Violet Hill, died at his home at that place Thursday, November 11. Funeral services were held last Saturday afternoon at 2:00 at the Violet Hill Baptist Church with burial in Fairview Cemetery at Violet Hill. Mr McCuistian is survived by four daughters, Mrs Minnie Pearl of Compton, Calif., Mrs Stella Barnes of Violet Hill, Mrs Earl Massey of Springfield, Mo., and Mrs Tom Hames of Violet Hill; one son, Troy of Broken Arrow, Okla., six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Well Known Baptist Minister Dies in Illinois- Funeral services for Rev. William H. McCuistion, 84 pioneer Baptist minister of this county, who died Friday December 19th, at Aurora, Ill., were held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Gassville Baptist Church with the Rev. Claude Crigler and Rev. D. W. Stark officiating. Burial was in Gassville Cemetery. Masonic rites were held at the graveside.
Rev. McCuistion was born in Tennessee and moved to Izard County as a child. The greater part of his life was spent in Izard County. He was an active minister for about 65 years, retiring in 1945. He was well known in Izard and adjoining counties. Since his retirement he has made his home with a daughter in Aurora.
Survivors include five sons, W. C. McCuistion of Downers Grove, Ill., C. S. McCuistion of Lawton, Okla., A. L. McCuistion of Davenport, Okla., R. E. McCuistion of Seattle, Wash., and P. T. McCuistion of Corona Del Mar, Calif.; four daughters, Mrs J. W. Sutherland of Cotter, Ark., Mrs W. M. Denton, Aurora, Ill., Mrs F. C. Wiseman, Fayette, Mo., and Mrs W. H. Hamberg, St. Louis; two brothers, Walter McCuistion of Violet Hill, Ark.; and J. H. McCuistion of Hollis, Okla.; 20 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Native of County Killed in Car Wreck in California
Mrs Jeffie McCollum, a former resident of Calico Rock and native of Izard County, was killed recently in a car wreck at Pamona, Calif.
Mrs McCollum was born and reared at Violet Hill. She was the widow of Walter McCollum. The family moved from Calico Rock to Oklahoma about 35 years ago. After several years residence in Oklahoma and New Mexico, they moved to California.
Deceased is survived by her husband of Pamona, one son, Earl McCollum of Houston, Texas and a sister Miss Emily Hames of Violet Hill.

Life-Long Resident of County Dies Friday
William Jefferson McNeill, a life-time resident of this section, died at the home of a daughter, Mrs C. D. Walker of Spring Creek, Friday morning, February 14, at 10 o'clock.
Funeral services conducted by Rev. W. T. Watson were held at Spring Creek church, Sunday at 2 p.m. Burial was in Spring Creek cemetery with the Roller Funeral Service in charge. Mr McNeill was born March 9, 1861 at Iuka. His entire life was spent in this part of the county. In February of 1884 he was married to Mary Francis Cantrell, to which union seven children were born. Mrs McNeill and a daughter preceded the husband and father in death several years ago.
Surviving are two sons, Talmadge McNeill of Seminole, Okla., four daughters, Mrs J. H. Smith of Henryetta, Okla., Mrs A. A. Peck and Mrs C. D. Walker of Calico Rock and Mrs John Miller of Pineville; one sister Mrs Harriett Mason of Iuka; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Charles Edwin "Sunny" Mayfield, Sr, was born Sep 2, 1926 and died Feb 2,
1992 at the age of 65. Survivors include his wife Ruth Dwelle Black; two
sons, Charles Mayfield, Jr of Calico Rock and Johnnie Mayfield of Old Joe;
four daughters, Elaine Cook, Cynthia Branscum, Rebecca Lamb and Kathryn
Mayfield all of Calico Rock. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and
four great-grandchildren. Other survivors are three brothers, Jr. Mayfield
of Kansas City, Robert Mayfield of Belton, MO and Bruce Mayfield of Mountain
Home; two sisters, Beatrice Thompson of Calico Rock and Neva Rash of Kansas
City, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henderson and Hattie Mayfield, one
grandson and one great-grandson.
He married on March 9, 1947 to Ruth Earnestine Dwelle Black. He worked on
both Bull Shoals and Norfork Dams. He retired from Baxter Lab in 1989. He
served in World War II and was a member of the VFW in Calico Rock . He was a
member in good standing of Adams Lodge #164 in Norfork and a member of the
Scottish Rite of Little Rock.
Services were held February 4 at Old Galatia Church with Gale Wooten
officiating. Burial was at Galatia Cemetery. Pallbearers were Billy Von
Cantrell, Charles Jeffery, Mike Keenell, Junior Teegarden, Elliot Goldman
and Jim Stowers. Honorary pallbearers were Harvey McGowen, Fred Stowers and
Otis Whiteaker. |

Clifton Moody of Pineville died June 10
Services for Clifton L. Moody of Pineville were held June 12 at Howard's Funeral Chapel at Calico Rock with the Rev. Price Lovelace officiating. Mr Moody 73 died June 10 at White River Convalescent Center at Calico Rock.
He is survived by his wife of the home; five sons, Donald Moody, Floyd Moody, Raymond Moody and Clifton Moody, Jr., all of Pineville and Carl Moody of Mountain Home; two daughters Pat Hendrix of Calico Rock, Ann Collins of Bakersfield, Mo.; three brothers, Ott Moody of Jordan, Garland Moody of Pineville and Will Moody of Bakersfield; three sisters, Mary Brown of Pineville, Rebel Ivie of Melbourne and Elsie Drown of Batesville; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, two brothers and five sisters.
Mr moody spent his working years as a sawmill worker and a farmer. He was born Feb 22, 1914, at Hand to the late Bill and Deliah Williams Moody. He and the former Hattie Killian were married June 26, 1939 at Pineville.
Burial was in the Crossroads Cemetery at Pineville with Wayne Moody, Leman Moody, Bobby Gray, Bobby Collins, Clifton Collins and Larry Moody serving as pallbearers.
This obituary was in the paper a month after the funeral.

Elmer Moody former resident died at Missouri
Elmer Moody, 82, of Mountain View, MO, a former resident of Baxter County,
died Friday at a West Plains, MO, nursing homs. He was a retired farmer, a
Baptist and a widower.
The son of William B. Moody and Molly Putnam Moody, he was born in this
county Aug 4, 1889 and resided here most of his life. His wife the former
Della Mintha Tippitt, died on June 8, 1965.
Survivors include two sons, Earl of San Bernardino, CA, and Jim of Broken
Arrow, OK, three daughters, Mrs. Dessie Sanders of Calico Rock, Mrs. Cleffie
Schulz of Mountain View, MO and Mrs. Opal Wheat of Nevada, Iowa; five
brothers, Wesley Moody of Wenatchee, WA, William Moody of Bakersfield, MO,

Doyle Morgan Killed in Action in France--Mr and Mrs Wm A. Morgan of Wideman were notified by the War Department the first of this week that their son, Pvt. Doyle Morgan, aged 20, was killed in action in France July 5. A message the latter part of July advised Mr and Mrs Morgan that their son had been slightly wounded July 5.
Private Morgan entered the service in October of 1943.
He attended Calico Rock High School, graduating in 1941. He was active in Future Farmers of America work and was an outstanding student in all his school work.
The father of the deceased is a veteran of World War I and saw action in France.

Mrs C. A. Morgan Dead-Mrs Columbia Morgan, age 74 died at her home at Bexar Saturday night, after an illness of some time of paralysis. Surviving Mrs Morgan are three sons and three daughters,. They are Paul Morgan, Mountain Home; W. R. Morgan, Wideman; E. L. Morgan, Bexar; Mrs Annie Floyd, Band Mill; Mrs Helen Banner, Tampa, Fla.; and Mrs Susie Melton, Melton.

Pineville Citizen Dead
Henderson Morgan, age 55 years, died at his home at Pineville last Tuesday, the 20th, after an illness of several days and burial took place at Tremble Campground Cemetery Wednesday in the presence of a large crowd of sorrowing friends and relatives. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Y. Whitfield of Pineville.
Mr Morgan took sick about the first of March, suffering an attack of flu or pneumonia. He was thought to be on the road to recovery, but last Sunday he grew suddenly worse, death resulting at the time stated. Mr Morgan was born near Wideman and all his life has been spent in the county, being engaged at farming. He has lived at and near Pineville the past several days. He was a splendid citizen and was highly esteemed by every one. His unexpected death was a shock to the community. Besides his wife, deceased is survived by three sons and two daughters.

Thos. E. Morgan Dead
Mr Thos. E. Morgan, aged citizen of this section, died at his home, three miles north of Wideman, last Friday, August 17th, after a long illness. Deceased was born in Jackson County but moved to this county when a young man and has resided in this section since. He was a good citizen and was highly respected by a large circle of friends. Burial took place at the Flat Rock Cemetery Saturday, services being conducted by Rev. Heath of Bexar.

Funeral of Pvt. Doyle C. Morgan Held Friday
Funeral service for Pvt. Doyle C. Morgan, son of Mr and Mrs W. A. Morgan of Wideman, killed in action in France, Jul 5, 1944, were held at the Wideman Methodist church, Friday, July 16, services being conducted by Rev. J. C. Wilcox of Swifton and Rev W. T. Watson of Calico Rock. Burial was in the Wideman cemetery, with the Roller Funeral Services in charge.
Escorted by an individual military escort, the remains arrived here from Memphis, Thursday. The body of Pvt. Morgan, original interred in a military cemetery at St. Mere Egliso, Carenten, Frances, was the first of World War II casualties of this immediate vicinity to be returned for re-burial.
Pvt. Morgan was born at Wideman August 25, 1924. After finishing grade school there he attended Calico Rock High School graduating with the class of 1941. He entered University of Arkansas the following fall and continued until a short time before entering the service, October 6, 1943. He was sent to Camp Fannin, Texas for his basic training. After an 8 day visit at home, he embarked for overseas April 1.

Mrs Gearldine Moser 101, died at a Calico Rock hospital on Nov 30. She was the widow of M. A. Moser, who died in December 1958.
Mrs Moser was born near Mount Pleasant and was a lifetime resident of Izard and Fulton Counties. She is survived by 10 children, six daughters, Mrs Artie Watts of Taft, Calif., Mrs Ollie Harris of Calico Rock, Mrs Arrie Williamson of Mountain Home, Mrs Bessie Carrico of Calico Rock, Mrs Virgie Taylor of Mountain Home and Mrs Elsie Shelton of St. John, Kans.; four sons, Allen Moser of Pineville, Edward Moser of Mountain Home, Donnie Moser of Calico Rock and Virgil Moser of Dolph; 22 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Monday of last week at the First United Methodist Church at Wild Cherry, with Rev. Ray Shelton officiating, assisted by Rev. Byrel Long. Interment was in the Wild Cherry Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Kirby Williams, Forest Knapp, Shell May, Fredis Mitchell, Clifford Price and Lewis Sublett.

Geo. Washington Moser 100, Dies at Melbourne
Funeral service for George Washington Moser aged 100 who died at his home in Melbourne, Saturday, were conducted at the Church of Christ Sunday afternoon and burial was in the Melbourne Cemetery. Mr Moser completed the century February 25 this year.
He was a veteran of the Second Arkansas Cavalry. Union Army, in the Civil War and was mustered out with the rank of major. Born in Independence County, he moved to Zion about 30 years ago and went to Melbourne in 1930.
He is survived by two sons, Frank of Melbourne and A. L. Moser of Batesville and five daughters, Mrs O. L. Burt of Mountain View, Mrs T. B. Pate of Lunenburg, Mrs H. Blassengame of Grant, Okla., Mrs John Collum of Oil Trough and Mrs R. M. Shaver of Louisiana.

Former Resident of Melbourne Dies
Mrs Cornelia Stevens Moser aged 77, for many years a resident of Melbourne, died Saturday at the home of a sister in Batesville. She was a widow of H. Frank Moser.
Survivors include two sisters, Mrs Ruth Brown Grooms of Batesville, Mrs Eula B. Haggard of El Dorado, Kansas; three brothers, Ray Brown, Newport, Henry Brown, Fort Smith and Albert Brown of Benton, Arizona.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. at the Melbourne Cemetery with Ministers, Y. D. Whitehurst and Hugh Cooper officiating.

Lincoln John Moser, 87 of Roll, AZ, died at his
home Thursday, June 2, 1977. Born to Daniel
Moser and Betty (Reeves) Moser, in Izard
County, AR on October 24, 1889, he was a
retired farmer, a member of the Masonic Lodge,
a member of the Free Will Baptist Church and a
resident of AZ for 22 years, prior residence
being Izard County.
His survivors include; 3 sons, Steve Moser of

Community Building at 4:00 p.m. on Monday,

Ola Faye Moss, of Salem, Ark., daughter of the late Alvie Pierce and Linnie Mae Durham Pierce, was born Jan. 14, 1939, in Ott, Ark. She died Jan. 10, 2008, at her home at the age of 68 years.
She was united in marriage to Jim Bob Moss on Sept. 8, 1957, at Hardy, Ark. To this union, two sons were born. She was the mailroom coordinator for Areawide Media in Salem for many years.
Survivors include: her husband, Jim Moss of the home; her sons, Bobby Moss and wife, Anita, of Salem and Dennis Moss of Salem; her grandchildren, Ashley, Summer and Brandon Moss; and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by: her brothers, Elijah, Alford, Ralph and Joe Pierce; her sisters, Azlee Gunter and Anna Lee Satterfield; and her father and mother.
Graveside services were held Jan. 13 at the Salem Cemetery in Salem, Ark., with burial following. Arrangements were under the direction of the Cox-Blevins Funeral Home of Salem.

J. Samuel Mullins Dies in Veterans Hospital-Joseph Samuel Mullins aged 61, veteran of World War I died in the Veterans Hospital at Fayetteville, Monday, March 15, following an illness of several months. Mr Mullins whose home was near Oxford, was taken to the hospital last Friday. He was a native of Kansas and came to Izard County in 1920. He was married to Miss Martha Graham of Oxford in 1921. Mrs Mullins death occurred about a month ago.
Surviving, are three sons, Melvin, James Lowell and John Allen of the home.
Funeral services were conducted at the Camp Ground Church Wednesday afternoon by the Rev J. M. Rush of Zion and burial was in the Camp Ground Cemetery. (Shaver Campground)

Geo. Mullins Killed in Highway Accident
George Mullins, 35, formerly of Wideman, was killed in a highway accident in New Jersey, Tuesday morning about 1 o'clock.
The body is being returned to Wideman for burial, and is expected to reach there today, Friday. The funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m.
Mullin was employed as driver for a large trucking concern. The nature of the accident that caused his death is not known, though it is stated he was badly burned, as was another man who figured in the mishap.
Mullins was born and reared in this vicinity and went to east Tennessee about six years ago to make a mail route. About two years ago he accepted employment with the transport company as driver and was engaged in this work at the time of his death. The family resided at Kingesport, Tenn.
He is survived by his wife, the former Miss Eunice Dalrymple of Wideman; two children; a half brother, Sam Mullins of Wideman; two sisters, Mrs Amanda Graham of Wideman, and Miss Anna Mullins of Omaha Nebr., and other relatives.

Mrs Mullins Dies at Home Near Oxford
Mrs Martha R. Mullins, age 57, died at her home near Oxford, Tuesday. Funeral services were conducted at Shaver Campground Thursday morning by Rev Matt Rush.
Mrs Mullins was a life-long resident of this county. She was born at Wideman and practically all of her life was spent in that locality. She was a daughter of James A. and Mary Jane Graham. She was married to J. S. Mullins at Wideman in 1921.
Surviving are her husband; three sons, Melvin, Lowell and John Allen Mullins of Oxford; two sisters and four brothers.

Emmett Peck Dies In Oregon--Word has been received of the death of Emmett Peck who has resided at The Dalles, Oregon for many years. He was a retired Civil Engineer and had been employed by the Oregon State Highway Department. He formerly resided in the Spring Creek community near Calico Rock. He was a brother of Herbert A. Peck and of Mrs Esther Cantrell. He was 75 years of age.

Mary F. Peck Dies in Oregon
Final rites for Mrs Mary F. Peck were held at The Dalles, Oregon on February 22, 1957. She had died at the home of a son two days earlier at the age of 96 years.
Her husband, Wm. A. Peck died here in 1929
The family came to this community more than seventy years ago and settled on Spring Creek near the Spring Creek Methodist Church, after residing a short time near Oxford, Arkansas. Her husband was a pioneer school teacher in this section.
She is survived by the following children; Mrs Lottie Welch of Denver, Colorado, Mrs Ruth Lindsey, Mrs Esther Cantrell and H. A. Peck of Calico Rock, Arkansas and Cortland Peck and Culmer Peck, both of The Dalles, Oregon.

H. A. Peck Dies Sunday
Herbert Addison Peck died Sunday at his home in Spring Creek community at the age of 60 years, 5 months and 7 days. Mr Peck, the son of Rev. W. A. and Mary Peck of Virginia, was born at Spring Creek October 24, 1896.
He was united in marriage to Miss Alva McNeill on February 25, 1917 at Calico Rock. To this union two sons were born.
Survivors include a son William Doyle Peck of Calico Rock; a grand-daughter, Mary Beth Peck of Calico Rock; three sisters, Mrs A. R. Welch of Brition, Colo. Mrs Ruth Lindsey and Mrs Herman Cantrell both of the Spring Creek community; and two brothers, Culmer Peck of Maupine, Ore. And Courtland Peck of Tye Valley, Ore.
He was preceded in death by a son who died in infancy; two sisters, Miss Maude Peck and Miss Hattie Peck; and three brothers, Emmitt, Eugene and Lucian.
At an early age in life he joined the Spring Creek Methodist Church and served as a willing, capable and faithful trustee until his death. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World Lodge and he served ably in many civic-minded community adventures.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 2 at 2:00 p.m. at the Spring Creek Methodist Church with Rev. Charles Casteel and Miss Mary Chaffin officiating.
Burial was in the Spring Creek Cemetery under the direction of the Hall Funeral Home

Rena Pierce Passes At Violet Hill
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 2nd at 2:00 p.m. at the Violet Hill Church for Rena Pierce who passed away 1st at the home of her daughter, Mrs Grace Mathis of Violet Hill.
Sister Sallie Jones of Violet Hill, assisted by Rev. Maddick of Washington, officiated. Burial was made in the Violet Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Hall Funeral Home.
Rena Cooksey was born September 11, 1874 at Buffalo, Mo., and was 82 years, 8 months and 15 days of age at the time of her death.
She was married to T. W. Piece on December 25, 1892 and to this union seven children were born. Four of the children and her husband preceded her in death.
Survivors include three children, Mrs Virgie Jones of Springfield, Mo., Mrs Grace Mathis of Violet Hill and Arch Pie
