Edna May Swor
Edna May Swor, 96, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2006, in Chico, Calif.
Mrs. Swor was born in the family home in Belleville, Ark., on July 6, 1909, to Gerald and Ethel Thomson. She received her education in Belleville and as a high school student was offered a music scholarship after winning a statewide piano competition. However, she chose to marry Elzy T. Swor on Nov. 25, 1926.
In 1934, Elzy and Edna moved to Somis, Calif., and later to Ventura. With a growing family, Edna supplemented their income by packing oranges and lemons and working as a semstress in a sport clothing factory from which she retired. Elzy and Edna were active members of the Ventura Assembly of God church for many years.
Edna enjoyed amily gatherings, visiting friends, sewing, playing the piano, crossword puzzles, gardening, traveling, and watching her sons and grandsons play ball. She made many Raggedy Ann dolls for family and friends.
Mrs. Swor was a resident of Ventura for 65 years before moving to Orland, Calif., to live with her daughter and son-in-law. She was a devoted, loving, and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her sense of humor, laughter, friendly smiles, and big hugs for everyone, with a quiet "God bless you," will be missed by all who knew her.
An infant son, Elzy T. Jr., and husband Elzy preceded her in death.
Mrs. Swor's survivors are her sons Bill and his wife, Neila, of Canby, Ore., Don and his wife, Shirley, of Ventura; daughter, Anna Porter, and her husband, Wally, of Orland, Calif.; her extended family, Mason and Caroline Parish of Ventura; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Elena Elliott of Camarillow; sisters-in-law, Ina Thompson of Camarillo and Norine Adair of Oxnard; and many nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 12, at the Charles Carroll Funeral Home, 15 Teloma Drive. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., also, at the funeral home. A private burial will take place at the Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, Ventura.
