O n the fifth anniversary of its move from the White County Fairgrounds, Pioneer Village was reopened for a special preview showing on Saturday and Sunday November 3 & 4. A herculean effort by a handful of volunteers with little funding has brought us this far. "We are proud of what we have done." says White County Historical Society President Tony Young, "and we're
anxious to give the public a peek. But this is not a 'grand reopening'. We still have lots of work to do."
The Village was open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and 1 to 4 on Sunday afternoon. The collection of 19th century buildings was in danger of being demolished in 2002 when the WCHS agreed to
take charge. First, the entire Village was loaded up and hauled to a location on Higginson Road provided by the City of Searcy. Then years of deterioration from termites, weather and other factors had to be fixed. This has been achieved.
The Historical Society has provided all of the financial support as far, with help from generous members and several fund raisers. When the Village will open permanently is uncertain. This is just a preview!
