1900 Federal Census Cedar Glades Twp, Montgomery Co. AR
Garland County cemeteries from the north side of the Lake Ouachita site were relocated by the Army Corps of Engineers between 28 June 1952 and 25 July 1952 before the area was inundated with water. Buckville Cemetery was the only cemetery in the area left untouched by the flooding of the Ouachita River. Since the dam was talked about in the 1930s many started burying elsewhere before all this took place. The various small cemeteries of Bradley, Pittman (Williamson) & some of the Cedar Glades were moved to the hilltop above what is now the Buckville Cemetery and Church These graves are also known as the NEW CEDAR GLADES CEMETERY. Most of those from Cedar Glades went to the small Mount Valley Cemetery, originally Fowler Cem., near Hot Springs. It grew with the additions of the grave removals from the Buckville area, and many families of those descendants bury there today. All were removed a coffee can of dirt at a time. Only recent graves were actually moved by the Corp of Engineers. We found also that many markers were never actually moved either.

Montgomery County, Arkansas Cemeteries published Dec. 1997 contains a listing for the Murphy Cemetery but no dates mentioned. Peak Cemetery was in Montgomery Co. until 1917, now located in Garland County is listed in the 1997 cemetery book. The USFS may have more information.
Garland County Tombstone Inscriptions: Western by Inez Cline and Bobbie Jones McLane. 1969. Contains dates beside 50% of those buried at Pittman.
Garland County Historical Society and the the Garland Public Library has a photocopies of the COE 1951Cemetery Relocation Plan of Cemeteries
They Can't Go Home: A History of Northwestern Garland County, Arkansas, by Wendy Bradley Richter and Inez Halsell Cline.
Lowe Cemetery, Garland Co.: There were over two dozen unmarked graves moved here by the Corps from what is now Lake Ouachita. From Hot Springs take State Hwy. 270 west for 13 miles, about one mile past Royal, turn left at Social Hill Church, first road to left takes you to cemetery. Incomplete listing
Thanks to the effort of Gabrielle McKinney and permission from COE Vicksburg office we have posted the information from the 1951 Corps of Engineers report "Relocation Plan of Cemeteries" for the Blakely Mountain Reservoir Area, AR. Indicates 518 graves were removed from sixteen cemeteries and relocated to Murphy Cemetery, Montgomery Co. AR (located approx. 14 miles east of Mt Ida near Hwy270), Brooks (Garland Co.), Little Fir (has over 150 graves marked with metal stakes that say Unknown) and Stanley-Standridge cemeteries in Montgomery Co. prior to Lake Ouachita being created.
'Letter's of Consent's' where obtained when possible concerning relocation and the selection of new sites. A court order from the U.S, District Court for the Western District of Arkansas was required to authorize the relocation of the cemeteries. Marked and 'unknown' graves were removed and reinterned without a 'Letter of consent' because no next of kin was found.
Johnny Kiser from the COE, Vicksburg wrote April, 2001: "We have no objection if you identify the cemetery names on your web site providing the information will be available to the general public and is strictly used for historical and/or genealogical purposes. It looks great. I likewise have done a significant amount of research into some of the relocated cemeteries. I'm sure your site will be of great benefit to some people that are investigating their roots."
The Old Williamson Cemetery was located about two miles southeast of Buckville near the Ouachita River on and was renamed by the Army Corps to Pittman Cemetery. The Record, Garland County Historical Society 1975 publication contains a photo "Cleaning the Williamson Cemetery" about 24 folks and all named. The Pittman Cemetery probably got its start when some southern soldiers on patrol looking for Jayhawkers ran into a group of Union soldiers on patrol including Mike Blocker, Mason Speer and Joe Demby. The men killed were buried in the Pittman Cemetery.

/s/ Jack S.ThweattJayhawkers hung Moses Gray SR about 1863. George Blocker Jr. b. Nov 9 1834, a Union recruiting officer returned home for a visit December 1863 about this time as did his half brother William Gray who was in the Southern Army. George was making a pair of shoes and Bill was in the yard when a group of Jayhawkers approached. They tried to run to the woods to stand them off and draw gunfire away from the family but George was hit in the leg and Bill came to his aid and was shot. George grabbed his sword and was killed and his body thrown in the creek after the Jayhawkers took the boots. The brothers, one in blue and the other in gray were placed in a double walnut casket built by a neighbor and buried in the Mt Pleasant Cemetery by George's wife, children and neighbors who witnessed the event. Aaron Gray fought for the south until he deserted 25 April 1863 and then fought for the North and Moses fought for the South, they were twin brothers. Reference "They Can't Go Home" by Richter and Cline. There was a skirmish at Cedar Glades 1 March 1864.
