Gortemiller Cemetery, Montgomery Co. Arkansas
Location: From Pine Ridge go 1 mile east on Hwy 88 turn right (south) crossing the Ouachita River and travel 1.3 miles. Turn left at Y intersection. Go 0.3 miles. Turn left on dirt road heading uphill. The cemetery is overlooking the river valley. Approximately eighty graves. Decoration Day is the 2nd Saturday in June. The cemetery began in 1909 and is still active. Listing complied March 1999 during a visit to the cemetery. On Find A Grave 55 interments listed as of Nov. 2010.

Keown: Mary Jane, the wife of William Houston Keown was a Gortemiller. Information courtesy of Bettie Dowler. Her parents were Henry and Frances Hannah Gortemiller, immigrants from Germany. George Gortemiller, who is also buried there, was Mary Jane's nephew--son of Franz Henry and Cynthia Fry Gortemiller.
Singleton: Thomas SINGLETON born 10 Apr 1845 at Tippah County, Mississippi married and Darcus Fryar 29 Nov 1865 in Montgomery Co. They were the parents of ten children including James Wright SINGLETON born 12 Mar 1874 at Arkansas.
Isibell Nancy (Belle)WILLHITE was born 12 Mar 1877 Pine Ridge area daughter of Lorenzo Dowel M. WILLHITE and Ara Malindia SIMS. She married James Wright SINGLETON 27 Aug 1893. Wright was a farmer in the Huddleston community. "Always knew he would die of measles." They had nine children.
Thomas Mart SINGLETON was born 28 Feb 1870 and married and Ruth Emley FRYAR 09 Mar 1893. Thomas Mart was a son of Thomas and a brother to Wright. Acy, a son, was born 1913.

Elmer Festel (could be different spelling) Gortemiller and Edith Opal Fryar Gortemiller were the parent's of Mary Jacqueline. Vestal Fryar was her uncle. Mary's cousin was Barbara JoAnn Gortemiller, b. Jan. 30, 1942, and died Sept 16, 2000, married 2nd to Donald Joe Langley. JoAnn's parents were Roy Lee Gortemiller and Hester Lou Vina Bates. Harvey Melton Langley and Don Langley are brothers. Harvey was married to Mary at one time and Don married Joann in 1988 until she past away. Edith Opal Fryar Gortemiller father and mother were Nicklas and Bertha Fryar buried Quinton Cem. Haskell Co. OK. See Gentry.
Rexie Eugene "Gene" Gortemiller is also buried there. He passed away March 23, 2001. Son to George and Cora Gortemiller. All of his sisters and brothers except one is buried in the cemetary. Michael "Big Mike" Gortemiller was Gene's first born and Gene is buried near him, the area between him and Mike is reserved for Gene's wife Velma Gortemiller. The picture on the web page shows white poles. Gene and Velma placed them there shortly after Mike. Belle Singleton was the midwife that delivered Gene. Submitted by Debra L. HOUSTON - Gene Gortemiller, 69, of Houston, formerly of Oden, died Friday, March 23, 2001, in Houston. He was born Feb. 6, 1932, in Opal. He was a Air Force veteran of the Korean War, a fireman for the Houston Fire Department and on the Advisory Board for Northline Park Police Station in Houston. He was a member of the Little Hope Baptist Church in Oden. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gortemiller Cemetery with Bro. Allen Lawrence officiating under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena. He is survived by his wife, ...., ; two daughters, ...., a son, ..., a brother, ...; five grandchildren, ..., and two great-grandsons.
