FOREWORD

Book B is Monroe County's earliest marriage book and is quite fragile. Much effort was made to interpret and abstract all of the helpful information contained in the marriage records such as witnesses, place of marriage, parents, guardians, and other data which is sometimes omitted from publications of this type.
Marriages are not in existance from the time Monroe County was created (November 2, 1829) through most of the year 1850. For this reason other sources need to be utilized.
Included in this publication is a list of persons who married within the year from the 1850 census of Monroe County, as well as some divorce petitions which reveal information on possible early Monroe County marriages.
