The Mountain Echo, November 21, 1974 Issue: Merritt MITCHELL Services Were Held November 20. Merritt R. MITCHELL, 74, Route A. Yellville, died Sunday, Nov. 17 at the Marion County Hospital. He was born Aug. 3, 1900 at Round Timber, Texas, to James H. and Annie (RIPPSTEIN) MITCHELL. He had lived in Marion County 25 years, and prior to that at Portland, Ore. He was a retired employee of J. C. Penny Co. Survivors are four brothers, Melvin, Robert E., and Bert MITCHELL, Yellville; and Elbert L. of Roaring Springs, Texas; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth WELCH and Mrs. Velma JOHNSON, Yellville. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20 in the Pleasant Ridge Church with Marvin Tunnell, pastor of the Main Street Church of Christ officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jimmy WELCH, Ed WELCH, Charles WELCH, Johnny WELCH, Marvin PHILLIPS and Wayburn MITCHELL.

The Mountain Echo, May 22, 1975 Issue: Services Held For Babe WOOTON. Babe WOOTON, 82 years old of Route A, Yellville, died May 7, at the Marion County Hospital. Mr. WOOTEN was born Jan. 6, 1894 in Baxter County, the son of John and Emma (BAKER) WOOTON. He was a retired miner, and a resident of Marion County for 72 years. He is survived by his wife Leler, of the home, daughters Ruby SMITH of Pomona, Calif., Mildred STONE of Arcadia, Calif., Pearl HUSPETH of Yakima, Wash., and a son, William of Yellville. He also leaves 19 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. May 10, in the Pleasant Ridge Church with Rev. Dale Barnett officiating. Burial was at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bill BENSON, Howard DOSHIER, Kirby WAGONER, Carl RAMEY, Lynn NELSON and George STICE.

The Baxter Bulletin, September 25, 1975 Issue: Services held for Jack PHARIS. Services were conducted Sept. 16 at the Pleasant Ridge Church of Marion County for Jack Lester PHARIS, 60 of Hobbs, N.M., who died Sept. 13 in a Houston, Tex., hospital. Ed Hand officiated, and interment was in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery under the direction of the Holt-Burns Funeral Service of Yellville. Pallbearers were Jim CAMPBELL, Jim DUHON, Curt EVANS, Ware LAFFOON, C. A. EVERSOLE and Ulys DAVENPORT. Masonic graveside rites were held. Mr. PHARIS was born at Corsicana, Tex., Feb. 10, 1915, the son of the late William and Lula Jane BATES PHARIS. A retired production foreman for Union Oil Company, he moved to Hobbs three years ago from Andrew, Tex. He was a member of the Kermit, Tex., Masonic Lodge, the Suez Temple Shriners Lodge of San Angelo, Tex., and The Taylor Street Church of Christ in Hobbs. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Dora Lee PHARIS of 1110 Cimarron, Hobbs; a daughter, Mrs. Don SCOTT, and a grandson David SCOTT, both of Hobbs; five brothers, Bill of Hobbs, Elzy of New Braunfels, Tex., Joe of Tyler, Tex., Tommy of Logansport, La., and Jesse of Colorado City, Tex.; and two sisters, Mrs. Vera Mae GALLAGER of Graham, Tex., and Mrs. Lula Bell WALKER of Big Springs, Tex.

The Mountain Echo, October 9, 1975 Issue: Addie I. STUBBS. Mrs. Addie I. STUBBS died Oct. 2 in Marion County Hospital following a long illness. She was born August 21, 1895 at Yellville to John and Fannie REED MELTON. She married Mart STUBBS Aug. 3, 1915 and had lived all her life in Marion County. She was survived by her husband, one daughter, Madge WOOTEN, Flippin; four sons, Connie Mack, of Springfield, Ned, of Branson; Johnny and Fred, of Willard, Mo.; two grandsons and one sister, Violet TUCKER, of Yellville. Services were held Oct. 4 at Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church with Rev. Chris Cooper and Dale Barnett officiating. Burial was at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.

BIRMINGHAM, DAVENPORT, HORNER, PYLE, WOOD Death Date Wednesday, October 15, 1975
The Mountain Echo, October 23, 1975 Issue: George PYLE. George Clifton PYLE, a native of Yellville, died last Wednesday at Huntington, W. Va. He was 48. Mr. PYLE, a truck driver, had been living in Rantoul, Ill. He is survived by his daughter Linda Sue BIRMINGHAM, also of Rantoul, one son, Jim PYLE, of St. Louis; his mother, Mrs. Inez PYLE, and grandfather, George HORNER, both of Yellville; and two sisters Guyla DAVENPORT, of Yellville, and Faye WOOD, of Flippin. Services were held at First Baptist Church in Yellville Saturday, with burial in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Officiating were Rev. Lee Bowers and Rev. Dick Hurst. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Yankee, Ill.

LOWRIE, MCCARTHY, PALMATEER, ROXBURY Death Date Wednesday, March 3, 1976
The Mountain Echo, March 11, 1976 Issue: Earl PALMATEER. Earl G. PALMATEER, of Route A, Yellville, died March 3 at the age of 77. Mr. PALMATEER was a retired, self-employed real estate broker. He was born in Maple Ridge, Mich., to Simon and Caroline LOWRIE PALMATEER on Aug. 29, 1898. He had resided some time in Miami, Fla., before making Marion County his home. He married the former Georgia ROXBURY on Nov. 18, 1916. Survivors include his wife of the Route A address; and one sister, Mrs. Edith MCCARTHY of Burlington, Iowa. Funeral services for Mr. PALMATEER were held at Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church last Saturday, with Rev. Dale Barnett officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Burns Funeral Home was in charge of services.

BEARDEN, MCMULLEN, MELTON, RABY Death Date Wednesday, March 31, 1976
The Mountain Echo, April 8, 1976 Issue: Henry (Pete) RABY. Henry "Pete" Anderson RABY, 87, died March 31 at his home, Rt. A., Yellville. Mr. RABY was born in Mountain Home Feb. 12, 1889, the son of Jones Monroe and Elizabeth (BEARDEN) RABY. He was a retired factory worker and a resident of Marion County most of his life. Mr. RABY is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Pauline MELTON of Yellville, and Mrs. Jackie MCMULLEN of Harrison; eleven grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. He was a veteran of World War I, a member of the VFW, and a member of the New Hope Baptist Church. Services were held at the Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church on Saturday, April 3, at 10 a.m., with Revs. Dale Barnett and Lee Bowers officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.

The Mountain Echo, June 24, 1976 Issue: Mrs. Anna CAMP, Yellville native. Mrs. Anna CAMP, 85, of Yellville died there June 10 at the Marion County Hospital. The daughter of the late James and Martha DUGGINS DOSHIER, Mrs. CAMP was born Feb. 25, 1891, at Yellville and lived in Marion County all her life. She was a member for many years of the Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Howard (Opal) MORROW, Mrs. Thew (Moatt) WICKERSHAM and Mrs. David (Martha) STILL, all of Yellville; five grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Mrs. CAMP was the widow of the late Will CAMP, who died a number of years ago. Services were held June 12 at the Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church with Rev. Chris Cooper and Rev. Dale Barnett officiating. Interment was in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery under the direction of the Burns Funeral Home of Yellville. Pallbearers were Ray BENTON, Guy STILL, Mike WICKERSHAM, Junior MORROW, Charles MORROW and Mike MORROW. Honorary pallbearers were Harry MORROW, Abe COWAN, Orfice SHELTON, Omer MELTON, Randy SHIPMAN and Luther LYONS.

The Mountain Echo, July 8, 1976 Issue: Mary RAGSDALE. Funeral services were held for Mary AVEY RAGSDALE, 89, at 2 p.m. Monday, July 5, at the Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church. Mrs. RAGSDALE was born in Marion County on May 19, 1887, the daughter of Henry and Martha Frances MOONEY AVEY. She died Friday, July 2 in the Marion County Hospital. The only survivor is a brother, Tom AVEY of Yellville. Burial was in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery with Rev. Chris Cooper officiating. Pallbearers were Dutch BIRRER, Stanley ROACHS, Onimus MCENTIRE, Larry CALAHAN, Thurman CALLAHAN and Glen DUREN. (Grave is marked Mary BURROW).

Funeral services for Anna Mae MELTON, 48, Bentonville, were to be held today, August 18, at 10 a.m. in the Callison-McKinney Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Samuel Adcock officiating. Graveside services and burial will be at 4 p.m. in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery near Yellville, under the direction of the Callison-McKinney Funeral of Bentonville. Mrs. MELTON died Aug. 15, at the Bates Memorial Hospital. Born Jan. 8, 1928, in Marion County, she came to Bentonville in 1962. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church. Survivors include her husband, Fred MELTON and a daughter; Sheila Ann MELTON, both of the home; her mother, Virgie SETZER of Bentonville; two brothers, Joe L. VOLF and Allen SETZER both of Bentonville; and one sister, Vella Mae CARLTON, Yellville, Ar.

The Mountain Echo, December 9, 1976 Issue: Edward E. FREY. Edward E. FREY age 62, of Route A, Yellville, died Dec. 5 in his home. He was a retired auditor for the First National Bank in Chicago. Mr. FREY was born in Chicago on April 2, 1914 to Edward and Mathilda KAMENTZ FREY and moved to Marion County four years ago from Naperville, Ill. On July 8, 1939 he was married to the former Winifred MANNING. Survivors include his wife, of the home; five sons, Edwin FREY of Longmont, Colo., Donald FREY of Rochester, N. Y., Paul FREY of Crown Point, Ind., Thomas FREY of Manasas, Va., and Charles FREY of Aurora, Ill.; three brothers, Harold FREY of Villa Park, Ill., Albert FREY of Glenview, Ill., and Emil FREY OF Cedar Falls, Ia.; two sisters, Tillie LARSON of Tucson, Ariz., Clare MILLER of Plainfield, Iowa; and nine grandchildren. Mr. SETZER was born in Yellville on Jan. 20, 1933 to George W. and Helen LAYTON SETZER. He was a sign salesman in Benton, where he had lived the past nine years. Survivors include his wife, Joyce WICKERSHAM SETZER of the home in Webb City, Mo.; one daughter Diana, of the home; one brother, Horace SETZER of Rogers; and his grandmother, Mrs. Stella LAYTON of Yellville. Funeral services were held on Friday, Dec. 24 at 2 p.m. in the Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church with Rev. Dale Barnett officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. He had been a resident of Marion County for 20 years. Mr. MADDOX was born July 13, 1886 in Weir City, Kansas to John G. and Etolie MORGAN MADDOX. He was a retired employee of National Zinc Co. in Bartlesville, Okla. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Etolie LARUE of Bartlesville, Okla., Mrs. Darlene BUOY of Summit, Mrs. Wilma SISE of Yellville; one son Bob MADDOX of Yellville; one half-brother, Lon KAPPLE of Weir City, Kans.; eight grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and seven great great grandchildren. Funeral services were held in the Burns Chapel at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22 with Rev. Dale Barnett officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. He was born Dec. 9, 1888 in Yellville to John H. and Fannie LINSCOTT AVEY and lived here all his life. Mr. Avey was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Yellville. Survivors include two daughter, Mrs. Ruth DUFFY of Cowiche, Wash., and Mrs. Faye JAMES of Center, Mo.; four sons, John AVEY of Yellville, Ed AVEY of Wichita, Kans., Clyde AVEY of Buena Park, Calif., and Claude AVEY of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Survivors include his wife Janie of the home; four brothers, Douglas HOBBS of Fairfield, Calif., Joseph HOBBS and William HOBBS, both of Dallas, Tex., and Donald HOBBS, Jr., of Yellville; three sisters, Patricia SPRUIELL and Teresa HOBBS, both of Yellville, and Debbie AUTREY of Dallas; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Donald HOBBS, Sr. of Route A, Yellville; and his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Victor STUBBS of Yellville. The Mountain Echo, May 5, 1977 Issue: R. Fulton PATTERSON. Robert Fulton PATTERSON, aged 60 died Saturday, April 30 in the Marion County Hospital. He was born Jan. 2, 1887 at Eros to Robert Fulton and Huldah WILLIS PATTERSON. He was a lifetime resident of Marion County. Mr. PATTERSON was a member of the Yellville Methodist Church and the Mason Lodge No. 177 of Yellville. Retired, he had been a school teacher, a Marion County official, an insurance agent, real estate agent, and at one time a printer for the Mountain Echo, as well as a farmer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Euna DOSIER PATTERSON and one son, Harry PATTERSON. Survivors include one son, Malcolm PATTERSON of Lepanto, Ark., two daughters, Helen PATTERSON and Mary DEARMORE, both of Yellville; ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Services were held Tuesday, May 3 at 10 a.m. in the Yellville Methodist Church with Rev. Chris Cooper officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Pallbearers were Tommy PATTERSON, Johnny PATTERSON, Bob PATTERSON, Billy Bob DEARMORE, David DEARMORE and Bob GLOVER. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Masonic Lodge. Arrangements were under the direction of Christeson's Funeral Home of Harrison.

Mr. AVEY was born July 19, 1917 in Yellville to Tom and Margaret JAMES AVEY. He was a lifetime resident of Marion County and had been a farmer. Survivors include three brothers, Ed AVEY of Wichita, Kans., Clyde AVEY of Buena Park, Calif., Claude AVEY of Arizona; and two sisters, Ruth DUFFY of Cowichie, Wash., and Faye JAMES of Perry, Mo. Funeral services were held Monday, June 6 at 3:30 p.m. at the Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church with Rev. Roy Dunn officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Pallbearers were Lester GIBSON, Marvin PHILLIPS, Johnny BIRRER, G. D. HUDSPETH, Vernon MORMAN and Junior SEAWRIGHT. Honorary pallbearers were Paul PARKER, Kenneth ZIEMER and L. E. BELL. ARMSTRONG, BEARDEN, DOSHIER, GIBSON, HALL, JONES, MARTIN, MEARS, MORROW, POLEY, RUBLE, TREAT Death Date Wednesday, June 22, 1977
The Mountain Echo, June 30, 1977 Issue: Mishap victim succumbs. A 16-year-old Route A, Yellville, youth died Wednesday afternoon, June 22, in Boone County Hospital of injuries received in a one-vehicle accident the previous evening about six miles west of Yellville on Highway 62. Christina Gail HALL, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Garry HALL of the above address, was pronounced dead at Boone County Hospital shortly after 1 p.m. Wednesday. Miss HALL was a passenger in a vehicle that went out of control and overturned after striking freshly turned soil along the shoulder of Highway 62 west of Georges Creek Bridge. Road construction was underway along that section of Highway 62 and the vehicle containing four Yellville youths was returning from Dogpatch when the accident occurred at approximately 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 21. Rusty RUBLE and Mary ARMSTRONG, both of Yellville and both 16 years old, were also injured in the mishap and are currently recuperating in their homes. The fourth person in the vehicle, Neil GIBSON, 16, of Yellville, is still in Boone County Hospital in Harrison and is listed in satisfactory condition with a fractured pelvis. Services were held for Miss HALL in the First Baptist Church of Yellville with Reverends Bill Griffith, Paul Crossman, John Stratton and Dale Barnett officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery with Burnes Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Christy HALL was born Jan. 26, 1961, in Chula Vista, Calif. She and her family moved to Marion County in 1972. She had completed her sophomore year at Yellville-Summit High School and was active in school affairs. She had been elected president of the Y-S Future Homemakers of America chapter and had been installed as FHA Federation reporter. She was also a cheerleader, member of the Yell-Kat staff, a past class officer and an active Girl Scout, serving as a junior counselor at summer camp. She was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church. Survivors include her parents and a sister, Lorna Dell, of the home; her maternal grandparents, Mrs. Madge MARTIN of Madera, Calif., and Harold DOSHIER of Yellville; paternal grandparents, Mrs. and Mrs. Alfred HALL of Yellville; and great grandparents, Mrs. Della BEARDEN of Yellville and Mr. and Mrs. F. P. TREAT of Marshall. Pallbearers were H. C. HALL, Leslie HALL, Cecil MEARS, Jerry JONES, Ken POLEY and Tommy MORROW.

The Mountain Echo, June 30, 1977 Issue: Charles E. SETZER. Charles E. SETZER, aged 59, of Yellville, died Thursday, June 23 in the Marion County Hospital. He was a retired railroad worker for Southern-Pacific. Mr. SETZER was born Aug. 17, 1917 in Yellville to Harv Allen and Roka Bell BEAVERS SETZER. He had lived in California before coming back to Yellville. Survivors include his wife, Patsy GOODALL SETZER of the home; four daughters, Deanna Lea SETZER of Yakima, Wash., Barbara Jean SETZER, Nancy Jean SETZER and Theresa Bell SETZER, all of Yellville; two sons, Harvey Lynn SETZER of Lincoln, Calif., James Charles SETZER of Yellville, four brothers, Sam SETZER of Summit, Hoyt SETZER of Yakima, Wash., Bill SETZER of Fort Jones, Calif., and Carl SETZER of Citrus Heights, Calif.; four sisters, Rose SETZER of Yakima, Wash., Juanita DAWS of Crescent City, Calif., Martha PINGREE of Plaserville, Calif., and Betty CORONA of Atlanta, Ga., and two grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 28 at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church with Rev. Dale Barnett officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Pallbearers were Charles ALLEN, Bob CASTEEL, Bob CARLTON, Jack MILLIS, E. G. PLY, Darrell PINGREE and Delbert SIMMONS. Arrangements were under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Yellville.
