Garland
County was formed from
Montgomery,
Hot Spring and
Saline Counties on April 5, 1873, and named
for Augustus H. Garland, Governor of Arkansas, U.S. senator, and
Grover Cleveland's attorney general. Hot Springs is the
county seat of Garland County. In 1905 the old Garland County Courthouse,
located downtown, was a victim of a disastrous
fire which destroyed more than twenty blocks of
the city of Hot Springs, and the present
courthouse
was built in 1905. |
