All of the people visited this week live in the Sumpter community east of the Hermitage Highway.

Ed Braswell, father-in-law of Minor Mann, is farming Mr. Mann's place near Sumpter while Mr. Mann is working on a defense job at Pensacola, Florida. Mr. Braswell worked for the Blaw-Knox Construction Company until a short time ago and only got the farm into limited production this year. Both Mr. and Mrs. Mann are natives of Bradley County and had lived all their lives before going to Florida a few weeks ago. They have one son, two-year-old Harold Wallace Mann.

The Arkansas Power and Light Company's micro-wire relay tower is located about a quarter of a mile north of the Mann place. The big tower was erected by the utility a few weeks ago and relays messages from Pine Bluff to a point deep in Louisiana.

A. R. Stuard lives next door to Martin's Chapel Methodist Church. He also worked for Blaw-Knox in Pine Bluff, but he's not doing anything now, since the Pine Bluff job played out. Mr. Stuard went to Pensacola with several other citizens of his community to work on a project there, but he was dis-satisfied and returned to Arkansas. He's remodeling his house while he's between jobs. Mr. and Mrs. Stuard have two children, Lawana, who goes to school at Hermitage and Donald, who works at Adams Supermarket here in Warren.

Mr. and Mrs. V. C. Savage have lived here in the Sumpter Community for 28 years. Mr. Savage is a farmer and carpenter and a native of the County. Mrs. Savage was born near Jena, Louisiana, and came to Bradley County when she was 18. Mr. and Mrs. Savage have three children: Mrs. Melvin Chandler of Camden, Haskell Savage, who is in the Air Force in Fort Worth, Texas, and Billy Ray Savage, who works in a Warren body shop. Mrs. Savage has an interesting avocation. She makes lamps out of cypress knees and had several in the process of construction at the time of our visit. The wood is perfectly beautiful when painted with a clear varnish. Mr. Savage gets the wood for her lamps from the Saline bottoms.

Mr. and Mrs. Luke Forrest lived behind the Savage place off the Johnsville road. Mr. Forrest is an employee of the Southern Lumber Company but has been out with the strike for fourteen weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Forrest have lived here for eight years, since World War II. Both of natives of Bradley County. Mr. and Mrs. Forrest have three children: James Ray, Jerry Don, and Judy Kay Forrest.
