Biographical:
Was a great-aunt of the late United States Senator, John McClellan, of Arkansas.
Following her husband's death, in 1879, she moved with other Muirhead and McClellan families to Arkansas. The group made up a wagon train, and the two clans moved to Arkansas where Jane had obtained a land grant. Her McClellan kin settled around Sheridan, Arkansas., while most of the Muirheads settled in Yell, Polk, Conway and Grant counties. After a few years, most of the Muirheads decided to return to Mississippi. In 1891, they sold their land, packed their possessions, and, later, loaded their families on flat bottomed boats they constructed from large timbers and floated down the Mississippi River to Vicksburg. Some stayed in Vicksburg, while others settled in Hinds, Montgomery, Holmes, Carroll and Attala counties.
Her McClellan relatives remained in Arkansas, where Isaac Scott McClellan became a local attorney. His son was the late John L. McClellan, who represented his state in the United States Senate for forty years.

"I left Kosciusko a little after one o'clock in the afternoon bound for Holmes County and arrived in Durant in the shank of the evening but hurried on toward Lexington and arrived at West Hill about sundown and there lodged most pleasantly at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. N. Muirhead. They are an elderly couple, both nearing seventy-five years. They were married 57 years ago at the age of eighteen years and have raised an average family of children. Mrs. Muirhead was a Miss McClelland, a daughter of John McClelland of Attala County who moved over into Holmes and this aged couple were school-mates and childhood sweethearts. The Muirhead family, of which this splendid old citizen is a member, settled in Holmes County from Tennessee over a hundred years ago., Bothare in good health but the weight of years is telling on them. May good fortune continue to bless them." Anon. Written about 1914."
