Mincy Valley Babtist [sic] Church of Christ Records, 1871-1880

At The Meeting held in Mincy Valley, Taney Co Mo. on saturday
before the third sunday in November 1871 conducted by Elders A. Hopper.

Hyrem Hollers and J.F. Brittain. a part of the members of the Postoak grove of United Babtist who had been leagelly dismissed from said Church by letter Agreed to go into a Constitution of an Independent Church at This Place.
Wherefore Elder J.F. Brittain was chosen as Moderator Protem and Bro. Creel Hopper CLK.PT.
The Names of those that went into the Constitution were as Follows:
Clemon Hopper,Hyrem Hollars,Elizabeth J Hollers, Anderson Hopper,Mary Hopper, J.F. Brittain,Mary Btittain,John Hutchenson,Creel Hopper,Sarah Hopper, Sarah Pruitt, Marion Hopper, J.J. Firtner,Melissa Hopper Fortner James M Hopper,Louisey Watts,Melvina Watts, Henrietta Watts,Noah Laws, George Brittain,Memory Brittain.

These Brethens and Sisters were permitted To Constitute Themselves into a church which we agree to call Mincy Valley. Constituing Prayer was Offered by Elder A Hopper after which a Hymn was sung and the hand of fellowship extended. The Newly constitued Church then proceeded to business 1st by motion and second agreed that we adopt the foregoing rules of Decorum and Articles of Faith. 2nd by by motion and 2nd agreed that we hold our regular Church meeting on Saturday before 3rd Sunday of each month.

On The Following Sunday evening the Church met for Worship after which oppertunity was given for persons to unite with the church when Brother Francis Brittain came forward and was Received by relation.
The Meeting continued from day to day the following week.
on Monday evening Brother Calvin Parton,Harvey Brittain,George Bly,Isaac Speerand Sister Nancy Speer came forward and was received by relation and Aaron Hutchenson was received as canidate for babtism. and Sister Sarah Speer was received by letter. and Sister Tabitha Ridemore was received by relation. Tuesday evening Bro. James Hutchenson was received as a candidate for Babtism and Sisters Nancy Hutchenson and Elizabeth Laws was Received by relation.
Wednesday Evening Sister Sarah Brittain was received by relation and Sister Sinthia Laws was received as Canditate for Babtism. and Sister Tilphah T. Brittain was Received as a Candidate for Babtism.
On The Following Sunday After Devine Services The Church Repaired to Where the Ordinance of babtism was Administrated to Bros: Aaron Hutchinson,James Hutchenson,John C Speer, and Sisters Synthia Laws Bly,and Melcina Brittain.

Mincy Valley Church Minutes Dec 1871

Saturday before 3rd Sunday in Dec 1871
The Church met and After Divine Serveces Proceeded to business 1st appointing Bro. Anderson Hopper Protem and Creel Hopper Clk Protem
2nd Peace of the Church was called for all in peace.
3rd by motion and 2nd agreed that we build a house of Worship on the following plan.
The House to be Hewed of Logs 18X20 Ft Square. 2 windows in each side. Doors in end and Pulpit in same in. floor at Least 1 ft from ground. 10 ft from floor to ceiling. To be Covered with 2 ft boards showing 8 inches
Adjourned to meet at 6 o'clock pm
6 oclock: the church met and after Worship Proceeded to business.
1st took up the question of the Church house by motion And 2nd agreed that we build the house At the site Offered By Bro. Anderson Hopper in the Mincy Branch 1/2 mile Above the Mincy Post Office.
2nd by motion and second agreed that we appoint Bro Anderson Hopper to supertend the building of said house.3rd by motion and 2nd that we proceed to the election of a Pastor.,2 Deacons and a clerk.
The vote was taken which resulted in the election of Bro. James F Brittain for Pastor and Bros.George Brittain and J.C. Speer for Deacons and Creel Hopper as Clerk.

Sunday evening the Church met for worship after which an invitation was given for persons to unite with the Church when Bro. Augusta P Marrs and Sister Elizabeth Marrs came forward and was received by letter.

January 1872
Saturday before 3 rd Sunday in Jan 1872.
The Church met and after Worship proceeded to Business.
1st the minutes of the previous meeting was read and received.
2nd by motion and 2nd agreed that we call Bro. Anderson Hopper ,J.F. Brittain And H Holler as Presbytery to examine and set apart for the office of Deaconsthe 2 Bros Formely elected for office.
3rd Peace of the Church Called for-all in Peace notwithstandingig was found that a Slanderous report was abroad concerning Bro. J.F. Brittain -where upon a Committee of Bros. Vise,J.J. Fortner and John C Speer and Anderson Hopper was appointed to investigate the matter and report at our next regular meeting.
4th by motion and 2nd agreed that we license Bro John C Speer to preach the Gospel
Adjourned to Order.

Feb 1872.
Saturday before 3rd Sunday feb 1872.
The Church Met and after divine services proceeded to business in order.
1st minutes are the previous meeting was read corrected and received.
The Report of the Committee on investigation was called for and read as follows:
We your Committee appointed to investigate as covering our Pastor do find by investigating that they are false and we do hereby clear him of the report.Anderson Hopper, John C Speer Jacob Fortner Committee
The Report was received and committee discharged.
3rd peace of the Church -call for-all in peace 4th request by Bro. J.C. Speer he is released from the office of Deacon and bro. J.J. Fortner was elected to the office.
Adjourned
Sunday at 10 oclock the Church met and presbytery Proceeded to the Ordination of Bros George Brittain and J.J. Fortner to the office of Deacons.

March 1872
Saturday before 3rd Sunday in March 1872
The Church met and after worship Proceeded to business.
1st minutes of previous meeting was read and received.
2nd peace of Church called for- all in peace.
3rd by request of Bro. John Hutchinson and Sister Sinthia Hutchenson[his wife] and his Brother James Hutchenson and his wife Nancy J. Hutchenson and his Brother Aaron Hutchenson. they are granted letters of dismission from us

Sunday Evening the Church again Met for Worship,After which an oppertunity was given for persons to unite with the Church When Bro. R. B. Stafford And sister Amanda Stafford And sister Emma Brittain all came forward and was received as Candidates for babtism.

The Church Met and after Worship proceeded with business in order.1st peace of the church Called ,All in Peace. no other business on hand.
Adjourned in order.
Sunday the Church met for Worship after which the ordaince Babtism was admimistrated to Bro. R.B. Stafford and Sister Amanda Stafford.
Sunday evening The Church met for worship after which an opportunity was given to persons to unite with the church when Bro James Gilstrap and Sister Ann Gilstrap came forward and was received on a promise of a letter.

Saturday before the 3rd Sunday in May 1872.
The Church met and after Divine services proceeded with business in order.
1st Bro.Anderson Hopper was appointed as Moderate protem
2nd the minutes of the previous meeting was read,corrected and received.
3rd peace and fellowship of the church was called whereupon the church preferred the following charges against Bro Hyrem Hollers.
1st for making Unlawful and un christian Proposals to females
2nd for making use of profane language
4th by motion and second the church appointed Bro. J.J. Fortner and Bro J.C. Speer to visit Bro Hollers and inform him of said charges and request him to meet with us at our next regular meeting.
5th by request of Bro A. Hopper he is released from the superintendency of the building of our Church and Bro A.A. Karns was appointed in his Stead.

Sunday Evening -the church met for worship after which an invitation was given to persons to unite to our church when Sister Malina Stafford came forward and was received as a candidate for babtism.

1st-the time has arrived for the election of a pastor by motion and second the church agrees to go into an election.
The Vote was taken by private ballot and resulted in the election of Bro Bell.
2nd by motion Bro. A Hopper was appointed to visit or write Bro.Bell and inform him of his call to the church.
3rd motion-by motion and 2nd Bro A Hopper,R.B. Stafford and Orlando Jones was appointed messengers to bear our letter to the associaton

4th, by motion and second it was agreed that Bro Creel Hopper continue to act as our Clerk for coming year.

5th by the request of Bro.J.C. Speer and Sister Sarah Speer they be granted letters from dismission from our body.

3rd.our letter to assocation was read and adopted
4th By Motion and Secord that hence forth we will be known as BABTIST CHURCH OF CHRIST
5th the time having arrived to elect a Pastor and Clerk by motion and second agreed to refer election to next meeting. Adjourned in order

1st Bro J.R. chambers was chosen as Moderator Protem
2nd Minutes of previous meeting read and accepted
3rd Peace of Church called for whereupon Bro A Hopper got up and stated that he had been overtaken in a fault that he had got into a difficulty with Bro. J. F. Brittain and that he had resorted to unchristain meams and he prayed the church to forgive him for his fault. by motion and second the church forgave him.
4th By Reqest of Bro George Bly and sister Sinthia Bly and sister Rebecca Jane Justice they are granted letters of dismission from us.
Adjourned to meet at early candle lighting.

sat. evening the church met for worship ,after which an invitation was given for persons to unite with the church. when Bro Henry Killmanand john Thomason Came forward and was received as Canidates for Babtism .
Sunday at 9 am the church was inspired to the water where the ordinace of babtism was administrated to Bro John Thomason,Sister Edny Jane Thomason, Bro Henry Killman and sister Mary Killman.

Dec 1873 and Jan 1874 and Feb 1974
The Church Met and after worship proceeded to business.
1st Peace of the Church called for-all in peace
2nd by motion and second that we extend an arm of the church into the neighborhood of Bro T.A. Coulter 6 miles east of this place .

April,May.June and July 1874
The Church met for worship but no business was done til the evening of the 3rd sunday in July.
An opperunity was given for persons to unite with the church and sister Marania Bedrord came forward and was received into the church by relation.and sister Amanda Layton came forward as was received as candidate for babtism.

August 1874

the church was met and after worship proceeded to business
1st peace of the church called for-all in peace
2nd an opperunity was given for persons to unite with the church when Bro. Milford Hopper came forward and was received as a candidate for babtism
3rd whereas in may 1872 certain charges were perferred against Bro. Hyrem Hollars and as plenty of time as been given and said charges has totally failed to sustain ,wherefore by motion and second agreed the church release Bro. Hollars and exborenate him.
By Motion Adjourned to meet next tuesday evening.

Sunday morning the church met for worship after which they repaired to water and Bro Milford Hopper and Sister Amanda Layton were babtised by our pastor Elder J.R.Chambers.
Tuesday evening the church met and after worship proceeded to business.
1st the time having arrived to call a pastor for the coming year by motion and second this church agreed to go into election. the vote was taken by acclaimanition which resulted in an unanimus election of Bro J.R. Chambers.

the church met and after preaching Bro James H Sperry and William Caburn came forward and was received as canditates for babtism.

on the 1st sunday in Jan 1876 Elder thomas Foster ,our Missionary visited us and commenced a meeting which continued the following week.
on Sun.Night Bro Joshua h Covey and sister Lucy Covey was received into our fellowship by relation.
on Thursday Bro. Thomas Watson was received for restoration and Bro. Wm Caldwell was received by relation and Bro F.P. Grogen was received as candidate for Babtism.
on thurs night Bro S.B.Covey was received as canidate for babtism and sister Edna Watson was received by relation. and bro S.H. White and sister Marget White was received by letter

Jan 1876 sat before 2nd Sun in Jan 1876.
The church met and after preaching ,our pastor.an invitation was given for persons to unite to our church when Bro James L Covey,Peter Covey and David L pruitt and sisters Mary Layton ans Susan Bedford was received as Canidates for babtism.
The Church was then called to order of Business
1st Brethen of sister churches was invited to aid council
2nd The minutes of previous meetind was read and adopted
3rd Peace of the Church Called-all in Peace.

Feb 1876 Sat Before 2nd Sunday in Feb 1876
Th Church met at 10 oclock and Bro.F.P. Grogen was babtized by Water.
After Services proceeded to business.
1st Brethens of sister churchs was invited to attend council
2nd minutes of previous meeting read and accepted
3nd peace of church called for.When found that reports were going around about sister Nancy ann Pruitt and sister Sarah A Pruitt had been visiting public places of sinful mirth and That Bro. Wm. Caburn has been making use of profane language and had been out hunting with a gun on Sunday.There upon by motion and second a committee of 3 Bros was appointed to visit said sisters and bro.,and bros Joshua Covey, J.W. Pruitt and Creel Hopper were chosen as this committee.
4th: an invitation was given to unite with this church when Bro.R.P.Stafford and sister Amanda Stafford was received by letter.
5th: the motion second and agreed we elect 2 elders this evening. Adjourned to Early candle lighting.
Early candle lighting: the church met and after worship proceeded to business.
1st;proceeded to elect 2 Elders.the vote was taken by private ballot which resulted in the election of Bros R. B. Stafford and J.H. Covey
2nd; Elders J.R. chambers and A Hopper was a Presbytary to examine and ordain for deacons the 2 bros elected to that office and the ordination to be attended to tomorrow evening.
Adjourned to order.

4th:Om Motion and Second Bro W.M. Canfield is granted a License to preach
5th:By request of the following Bretherns and sisters they are granted letters of dismission From us for the purpose of forming a new church 12 miles from here. Jackson Middleton,J.W. Middleton,Ruben Noell,Joseph Noell,W.M.Canfield, Delila Noel,Florence Middleton,and Julie Jefferies.and by request of the above the ordained authority and as many other members of this church can gp are invited to meet with them next Sat.for the purpose of assisting them on the organizing of a new Church .

The Church met and after services proceeded to Business.
1st: the minutes of previous meeting read and accepted
2nd:the committe reported they visited the sisters Sarah and Nancy Pruitt and Bro.Caburn and that they had all made confessions and ask the church to forgive them.
On Motion and second The Committee was discharged.the church forgave and retained the sisters and brethen according to their request,

After Worship an invitation was given to persons to unite with this church.and Bro Thomas Coulter and sister Virginia Coulter and Sister Sinthia Laws Bly And Mary Hardin was received by letter .

August 1876

1st Sunday in Aug.1876;Elder Thomas Foster commenced a meeting at the Bro Layton School House that lasted the following week during which Bro. Dr. A Watts and sister Artie Watts Was Received by relation.
Sunday after 11 oclock services Sister Rebecca j Hardin was received by letter.
Monday 10 oclock the church met and after services proceeded to business.
1st:Brethen of Sister Churcs invited to aid in council
2nd ;Peace of the church called for -all in peace
3rd: By request of Bro.Benjamin Caburn he is granted a letter of Dismission from us.

Wednesday Preaching at 11 oclock after which Sister Manis and Sister Henrietta Laws was received by letter. Sister Evaline Nemis,and Lydia Pennington and Bro.Wm B. White Were received as Canidates for babtism. and Bro. J.P. Farmington and Sister Nancy Pennington were received by letter. After Services Proceeded to Business.
1st:On Motion and Second Elder Anderson Hopper was chosen as Moderator Protem.
2nd The time as come for election of a pastor and clerk for the following year .which resulted in the election of Elder J.R. Chambers as Pastor and David L Pruitt as Clerk.

The Church met on Turkey creek and after preaching Bros. Peter Humphrey,,J.H. White,and sisters Martha a White, Janie White and Nancy Clark was received for Babtism.After this the church repared to water and Elder A Hopper Babtized Wm White,J.A. White,Lydia Pennington and Evaline Manis.
Friday 11 oclock
the Church met at the water and after preaching Bro. Peter Humphrey and sisters Nancy j White, Martha A White, and Nancy Clark was babtized by Elder A Hopper
Saturday after preaching Sister Jane Humphrey,Nancy caldwell,Rebecca Caldwell and Martha White and Bro. Leonard White was received as Canditates for Babtism.

Sunday After services Sisters Nancy Pruitt,Ivan Pruitt was received as canditates for babtism after which sisters Luanna Pruitt, Jane Humphrey Martha White and Leanard white was babtised by Elder A Hopper.
Sunday 10 oclock.the church met for services then proceeded to business
1st:on Motion and second agreed that we be reperesented in the South West Bethel Association by letter and messenger.
2nd clerk is requested to prepare a letter to the association For our Consideration at our next meeting and Bro Marion Hopper was chosen as our messenger.
3rd; By request Bro Wm Caburn and Sister Susan Caburn are granted letter of Dismillion from us
