RAIFORD DEBBY UNK 7 14 1912 UNKNOWN
7-19-1912 KILLING AT BLACKFISH=Squire W.H.Cook of Lulu, in Blackfish township, came over Tuesday afternoon, having with him a man, Henry Banks, who is charged with the murder of Debby Raiford, new New Hope, in that township Sunday, July 14,1912, a plow coulter being used to perform the deed. From the testimony of the dead woman's husband, and brother, it appears the woman, not of sound mind, and was left alone in the house Sunday afternoon, and that her dead body was found by them on their return to the house shortly after dark. It appears that Banks had been seen going to the house and coming away with Raiford's mule, and that he had told witnesses of some trouble he and another man had, and that he was going to return to his house for a shotgun and return and kill him. Banks was taken into custody and taken to Forrest City for custody.
RAIFORD PHILLIP T. SQUIRE 1841 9 8 1902 MT.VERNON CSA-17TH MISSISSIPPI INFANTRY
ANSWERED THE CALL=One by one the old confederates answer the roll call. Last Monday, Sep.8,1902, when the great Captain called the name of P.T.Raiford, he answered as promptly as of yore, and his spirit passed away to a happier life. Squire Raiford was well known in St.Francis county, and was 61? years of age and came to this county ten years ago from Byhalia, Miss., and had been elected several times as magistrate of Madison township. He was a member of the 17th Mississippi Infantry, and served gallantly throughout the Civil war. As a citizen, the squire was among the best; as a companion none held a closer place among his friends. He was a member of the N.B.Forrest Camp Confederates No.623, and was foremost in furthering the cause of the old soldier. The Squire had been feeble for two years, and had been taken to Memphis for treatment, and despite all the medical community attempted, he passed away at the residence of his son-in-law, Mr.Ike Mallory. He leaves two daughters, Mrs.G.N.Laughinghouse and Mrs.Ike Mallory-and a son in Memphis, to mourn his loss. The remains were interred in the MT.VERNON Tuesday morning under the auspices of the Masonic lodge, Rev.H.W.Dyer of the Methodist church officiating, assisted by Rev.J.J.Cornish of the Episcopal church. When all the ceremonies were completed, his old companions in arms gathered around the grave, while the bugler of the camp played "Taps". Circuit clerk adjourned for the burial of the Squire, and attended the burial. 9-12-1902

John Williams had lived on the Louis Pugh place south of town, and Mr.Pugh told him to leave after he had terrorized other negroes with a pistol. He reported the same to Deputy Swan when he came to town Saturday, and he notified the other offficers in town. The story is long and detailed, but essentially they attempted to arrest Williams, and the gun battle ensued. Both Murphree and Rainbolt were buried in the FORREST CITY on Monday under the auspices of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, of which both were beloved members. Rainbolt was also a member of the Woodmen of the World. Mr.Rainbolt was born in Kentucky, and removed to Arkansas with his parents when quite young. RICHARDSON JAMES A. 9 11 1881 10 28 1912 HUGHES
SON OF H.S.&MARY RICHARDSON-The Forrest City Times, Nov. 8, 1912. DEATH OF JAMES A RICHARDSON. Let us now pause in our rapid flight across the vista of time, and pay triute to him who lived among us, and who was our friend and neightbor. "Jim" Richardson was born in Franklin county, Alabama, September 11, 1881, and died October 28, 1912. He came with his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Richardson, to St. Francis county, in the year 1895. Thus it will be seen that he was but a mere child when he crossed the great fathers of waters and joined destinies with Arkansas and her people. A father and mother, three sisters and one brother, a host of dear relatives and friends are left behind to mourn their loss and cherish his memory. It was our pleasure to know this boy for 17 years. We have watched him climb life's ladder rung by rung, and to say that his life, as far as it went, was a success, would be but to tell the plain unvarnished truth. A sturdy, industrious, hard-working, home-loving boy; a devoted son, affectionate brother and a faithful friend. What a record to leave behind us; what more could one desire?, and to crown it all, his dying hours were trimphantly happy. And his sun thought in its noon-tide zenith, sank slowly and peacefully amid the splendors of an eternal dawn. We knew him in life, we watched beside him in death. He lived a noble life, he died a triumphant death. Jim Richarson's place can never be filled. Time may soften but can never erase his memory. Weep not, dear parents; sorrow not, dear sisters, for in that sweet bye and bye you can live with Jim over on that other shore. Let us emulate his many noble virtures and chreish his memory, let us live as he lived, and we will make this a purer, fairer, sweeter and better world in which to live. Good bye Jim, we will meet you, we will greet you, over on that other shore. C. T. Moore- Brenda Huntley Added: 3/24/2007

Birth: Oct. 1, 1834 Death: Apr. 9, 1906 The Forrest City Times Newspaper. Obituary. Mr. James Terry Rolfe was born Oct 1st, 1934,in Boydston, Mecklenburg county, Va. Early in life he moved to Arkansas and settled at old Pineville, near the present site of Vanndale, where until the civil war he was engaged in the mercantile business. He served in the Confederate Army with Co. A. McGee's regiment, Dobbin's brigade, of Arkansas cavalry. After the war he settled down at old Wittsburg, where he ran a hotel a number of years till the town was removed to Vanndale. Here he continued in the hotel business for some time. The weight of years then began to press upon him, and he retired from active life, spending his remaining years in his quiet home in Vanndale, from whence, as the sun went down April 9, 1906 he passed over the river. During his last illness of some eighteen days it was my privilege to be with him and pray with him often, and he gave many evidences that he had made due preparation for his last battle, from which he is now, we trust, enjoying that eternal peace. Bro Rolfe was in his 72nd year. He leaves a wife, a son, a daughter and two stepsons. His son, Sam Rolfe, of Forrest City, and his step-sons, Fred Rolfe, of Wynne, and Eugene Rolfe, of Forrest City, are prominent men in the commercial world. His daughter is Mrs. Rogers, wife of Mr. B. ROLLWAGE HERMAN ANDERSON 4 5 1892 10 18 1912 CITY NATIVE
10-25-1912 Birth: Apr. 5, 1892 Death: Oct. 18, 1912 The Forrest City Times, Oct 25, 1912. DEATH OF HERMAN ANDERSON ROLLWAGE. One of the saddest and most impressive funerals ever held in this city was that solemnized here on Sunday when Herman Anderson, third son of Mr. and Mrs. O. B. Rollwage, of this city, was laid to rest in the family lot in the FORREST CITY, surrounded by a large concourse of sorrowing friends. The passing of this young man, standing, as, he was, upon the threshhold of young manhood, with every prospect for a bright and promising future, was the source of poignant sorrow in a home where for so many years there has been nothing but happiness and the fullness of life, comfort and peace. Deceased was stricken with fever something over a month ago while at work with his brother in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Just as soon as the news of his illness reached this city, the devoted mother hurried to his side, and by her he was attended to in the family home in this city, where he was nursed lovingly and tenderly until the silent messenger came to still his voice and close his lips to those who cherished and loved and held his life as among their dearest and most priceless of earthly possessions. The face of the deceased's mother as she sat through the funeral service was a study that will not soon be forgotten. It seemed that the imprint which this bitter trial had left upon her noble features, was glorified and made beautiful through the fortitude and steadfastness of the Christian faith which sustained her, calm and unperturbed through it all. The hearts of all who saw the stricken mother were touched, and many perhaps, who were there through curiosity, remained to weep. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. George H. Kirker and a most pathetic song service was given by the Presbyterian choir. The pall bearers were, active - Walker Morrow, Charles Norton, Thomas Wortham, Edward Mallory, Homer Gee, Bert Mallory, Kenneth Knight and Walter Prewett; honorary- W. W. Campbell, Nathan Norton, Bard Nichols, John Gatling, Jr., Paul Johnson, John Johnson, John L. Pope, George E. Parker and Louis McDaniel. Among the out-of-town members of the family in attendance were Otto W. Rollwage of Muskogee, Oklahoma, Mrs. Sam Chandler of Union City, Tennessee, Mrs. Emma Berry and Mrs. Joe McGreggor of Cotton Plant and Mr. and Mrs. Ira Woodtln of Brinkley. The Times joins in sympathy for these dear friends in their great bereavement and affliction. May the spirit of the departed one abide in peace and rest. In another column we print a very beautiful tribute to the memory of deceased contributed by the young ladies and gentleman of the Forrest City high school, who were among his closest imtimate friends in life. - Brenda Huntley Added: 3/24/2007
ROLLWAGE LOUIS 4 24 1851 4 11 1905 CITY
LOUIS ROLLWAGE=The closing of a Great and Beautiful Life=The immortal spirit of Mr.Louis Rollwage passed to its maker Tuesday, April 11,1905 at 6:30 am. His death was not unexpected, as he had been confined to his room several weeks by a malignant cancer of the throat, having not been seen in his usual walks of business since Feb.24th, on which day, the accidental explosion of an alcohol lamp with which he prepared his medicinal treatment, gave him a severe shock and painful burns about his face. Louis Rollwage was born in Cincinatti, Ohio, April 24,1851, and had he lived until the 24th day of this month, would have been 54 years of age. He spent his boyhood days in Cincinatti and received a common school education in the public schools of that city. He began work at the age of 13 at the Franklin Type Foundry as an assistant bookkeeper, until he left for the south. He and his brother, Hon.Otto B.Rollwage formed the L.Rollwage firm in 1874. When the firm was dissolved, Mr.John Alderson came into the firm replacing Otto, and the name changed to Rollwage & Alderson. On the first of this year, the firm was changed merged with Fussell, Graham & Co. into the Fussell, Graham, Alderson Company. He was involved with the Bank of Eastern Arkansas as a large shareholder and vice president, and President of the Forrest City Hotel Co., treasurer of several other benevolent firms established here, and interested in the Forrest City Ice & Power Company. He was a Knight Templar Mason, a member of the Knights and Ladies of Honor. He was married to Miss Lizzie McDaniel in 1873, daughter of Mr.John McDaniel, deceased, who with one son, Louis F. and four daughters, viz: Mrs.J.L.Jelks, of Memphis; Mrs.Alice McRae, recently of Texas; Mrs.John W.Alderson, and little Miss Allyn Rollwage, survive him. The funeral services took place at the residence on Wednesday afternoon, the Rev.George E.Hancock of the Episocopal church presiding. A large concourse of friends, relatives, and acquaintances followed the precious remains to the FORREST CITY, where they were laid to rest under the auspices of the Forrest City Lodge, No.198, F.& A.M. He also leaves an aged father, Mr.F.Rollwage, and one brother, Hon.Otto B.Rollwage, to both of whom he was very dear, and whose hearts are terribly lacerated by his untimely death. He was the eldest son of Mr.F.Rollwage. Pall bearers were:Capt.James Fussell; Mr.Sol Lewis; Mr.John M.Nichols; Judge John Gatling; Mr.F.Laughinghouse; and Mr.M.Isaacs. Honorary Pall bearers:Mr.Thos.J.Fondren;Mr.G.N.Laughinghouse;Judge N.W.Norton; Mr.John W.Aven; Mrs.S.H.Mann; and Mr.Berry Fussell. It is believed his estate to be from $50000 to $70000, including life insurance. The remains were interred in a handsome casket, which was lowered into an Oakey steel frame burial vault, and hermetically sealed. 4-14-1905
