UNK 1 2 1909 JONESBORO 1-15-1909 The news of the death of Mrs.S.H.Babcock at Jonesboro on Jan.2,1909 was received here a few days later with deep regret by a large circle of friends. She was the mother of Rev.Sidney H.Babcock, formerly pastor of the M.E.church here, and a widely known and noble woman, whose lovely Christian character was admired by all who knew her. 1-15-1909 | BABER E. During her husband's incarceration, she attended him at intervals, until one day when she left him, saying she was going to get him something. The next heard of her, she was several miles west of town in L'anguille bottoms, wandering aimlessly in the woods. LUCAS 2 28 1922 3 15 2004 COGBILL CEMETERY | Mrs. Ruth Mae "Tommie" Lucas Bailey, Feb. 28, 1922, in Monticello, Ala ,age 82, of Forrest City and formerly a longtime resident of Parkin, died Monday, March 15, 2004, at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.Mrs. Bailey was born Feb. 28, 1922, in Monticello, Ala., the daughter of the late Sylvester Lucas and Myrtle Northcutt Lucas. She attended school in Parkin and lived there for most of her life until moving to Forrest City three years ago. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Parkin.Mrs. Bailey married William Roy "Bill" Bailey in 1960 and he preceded her in death in 1997. She is survived by a son, John Hampton of Wynne; two daughters, Mary Alice Laws of Forrest City and Johnnie Barnes of Parkin; a brother, Dean Lucas of Parkin; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Bailey, the daughter of Alpheus and Octie Peoples, was born April 18, 1918, in Forrest City.She attended Lincoln High School and later became the oldest member to attend that school's reunion. She attended A.M.&N. College in Pine Bluff to enhance her seamstress ability. She worked in several vocations during her lifetime including a domestic engineering, as well as an employee at the Cotton Gin and Compress. H. 1842 6 21 1903 OAK HILL | Death of J.H.Bard-The entire community was sincerely grieved last Monday when news was received of the death of Mr.J.H.Bard, one of the purest and best men of citizens. He had been in wretched health for several years, gradually becoming more feeble and weak. He died at his home on North Washington street Sunday night, June 21, 1903, and the remains were taken to Little Rock Monday morning and interred in the beautiful Oak Hill cemetery. The remains were accompanied by his wife, Mr.& Mrs.John Nichols, Judge and Mrs.N.W.Norton, Mr.& Mrs.Edward Roleson, Hon.Walter Gorman, and Judge John Gatling. The ceremonies were conducted by Rev.Mr.Lewis of Little Rock. He was 62 years of age, and had been an editor of a newspaper in Kentucky. He attended the University of Virginia, and now occupies the position of bookkeeper for J.W.Beck & Co. of this city.-6-23-1899 FORREST CITY TIMES | Mrs.Serap Ada McDaniel Barker-Her Spirit Takes Its Flight Sunday Evening after a Long Illness-Though not unexpected by her beloved relatives and many friends who have been at her bedside or knew of her sad condition, the death of Mrs.Serap Ada Barker, on last Sunday evening, was a terrible shock, and the darkest gloom o'erspreads the home where she was born and reared to womanhood, and where she had been confined to her room and bed from tuberculosis of the lungs for more than a year. The news of her death traveled rapidly, and many were the kindly words of sympathy for her loved ones, and especially for the manly little five year old son, her only child, who survives her and is left motherless at such a tender age and at just the right time he most needs her guiding hand. The funeral sermon, which was very impressive, was done by Eld.T.S.Potts, of Memphis, who is holding a revival at the Baptist church, and was largely attended by the friends and acquaintances of the family; after which a very large funeral cortege followed the precious remains, which were taken to the Forrest City Cemetery, and there interred in the family plot, near her father, Capt.W.H.McDaniel, who passed away on Oct.21,1904 at a ripe old age. The active pallbearers were Capt.Jas.Fussell, Mr.J.D.Baugh, Judge E.A.Rolfe, Judge S.H.Mann, Hon.A.D.Boyle, Mr.J.G.Sanders. These were selected several months ago by the deceased, as was also the music. Something over a year ago, she went to Denver, Colorado and entered the Oaks Home, hoping to be benefitted. She returned shortly thereafter and has not been seen in social circles. He waded out and into a step-off, sinking out of sight.Another boy named Steadman, almost lost his life in trying to save young Barlow. The body was recovered yesterday.
