Trusty School - Fort Smith, Ar
Previously known as Nowland Springs School
The notes below are taken from an article from Sept 1988 in the Fort Smith Historical Society - The Journal.
The Trusty school was originally known as the Nolan Springs school, which was located about a mile
and a half north of Fort Smith, near the Arkansas River on Nolan Springs Road, now Newlon Rd. The school was built on land owned by Samuel Putnam in 1900.
The original Trusty School was made up of four rooms and because it had 4 rooms instead
of the normal one room it was called Trusty's Folly. Thomas Trusty was a teacher there and was responsible for raising the money to build a
new school ($1200). It was enlarged to 10 rooms.
Trusty has had several homes. It's next location was at Spradling and No 6th St.
A third Trusty School was established at 3300 Harris Ave in 1928.
