"Death of Dr. James E. Johnson"

On sunday night, August 3, Sebastian County sustained the loss of one of her best and most worthy citizens, in the death of Dr. James E. Johnson, in his home in Greenwood. He was 43 years of age and leaves a wife and several children. He was born in Monroe County, Mississippi, in 1847. In 1884 he moved from Polk County, Arkansas to Sebastian County, residing for a time in Central, from which point he removed to Lavaca, where he practiced medicine until January 1889, and then moved to Greenwood. While residing in Polk County, he was elected to the Legislature and served with distinction. He was a soldier int he Confederate army during the later part of the war.... He was a mason in good standing and was buried with Masonic honors.
