Born in Bangor, Maine to Asa and Sarah Clark. Moved to Ft. Smith where father had been in charge of building Ft. Smith. Layed stones on
Garrison Ave. in Ft. Smith which are still seen today. Served in Civil War Quartermasters Corp. Was leader of possibly the last Confederate
fighting force. Attached to Gen. Stand Watie, the last Confederate Gen. to surrender in June 25, 1865, three months after Lee surrenderd at
Appomatox, Clark refused to surrender Union Indian troops and led his quartermassters across the Red River to Texas where Southern forces
had been surrendered for about a month. They then went to Washington, Ar. the former Confederate capital in Arkansas and finally returned
to Ft. Smith, Ar. their home in 1866. Clark refused to sign the loyalty oath. Was not allowed to vote or homestead. He is buried in the
Clark Cemetary on the site of the Clark Homestead. A Confederate flag is flown at his grave site. The Cemetary is on the north side of
Sugarloaf Mt west Midland and southeast of Slaytonville/Sugarloaf Lake. The Cemetary is reached from Sugarloaf Mt. Road.
