John "J.L." Louis Terwilliger, Jr.

John Louis Terwilliger, Jr. was born March 7, 1926 at Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar. to John Louis & Vora Bird Ervin Terwilliger. March 10, 1946 he married Louise Bertha Shoop at Fort Smith, Ar., that being their place of residence.

John enlisted in the US Navy during WWII. He served from March 9, 1943 until February 24, 1946. His final rank was Phm3.

J.L. Terwilliger, 87, of Fort Smith, died July 31, 2013 in Fort Smith. He was born March 7, 1926 in Fort Smith to John Louis and Vora Byrd Ervin Terwilliger. He was a retired Director of Labor serving under Governor Bill Clinton for the Arkansas State Labor Department, a member of the Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Local Union #29, and a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church of Fort Smith.

He is survived by four daughters, Becky and husband Woody Shank, Sandy Terwilliger, and Lisa Cain all of Fort Smith and Nancy and husband John Vitale of Central City; two sisters, Bettie Kline and Nadine Harlan both of Fort Smith; one brother, Charles Terwilliger of Fort Smith; two sisters in law, Helen Terwilliger of Russellville, AR and Barbara Selleck of Arlington, TX; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Louise Terwilliger, one sister Myra York and one brother Bobby Terwilliger.

Funeral service will be Monday, August 5, 2013 at 10:00 AM in the Immanuel Baptist Church with burial to follow in the U.S. National Cemetery all under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be David Armbruster, Bobby Odom, James Wright, Mike Taggart, Dick Boyett, and Gary Foster.
