James Taylor Smith was born June 22, 1921 at Midland, Sebastian Co., Ar. to Jasper William & Lura Thelma McCoy Smith. October 30, 1943 he married Leta Mae Shelton from Hackett, Sebastian Co., Ar. His residence was Bonanza, Sebastian Co., Ar.

James "Jake" registerd for the military draft February 16, 1942 at Fort Smith, Ar. He enlisted in the US Army August 13, 1945 at Camp Josepth T Robinson in Little Rock, Arkansas. He served until August 31, 1946. His rank was Tec 5. Nothing more is known about his service.

James "Jake" Taylor Smith passed away Decembe 21, 1999. His burial was in Old Union Cemetery at Hackett, Sebastian Co., Ar.

Hackett- James T. "Jake" Smith
, 78, of Hackett died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999, in Fort Smith. He retired from Whirlpool and was an Army Veteran of World War II. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday in McConnell Funeral Home Chapel of Greenwood, with burial at Old Union Cemetery in Hackett. He is survived by his wife, Leta Mae Smith; three daughters, Judy Moran of Greenwood, Ann Neubauer of Fort Smith and Sharon Matlock of Hackett; one son Charles of Hackett; one sister, Dorothy McLaughlin of Fort Smith; 15 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. The body may be viewed from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family will visit with friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
