Roy Eugene Poyner was born February 9, 1923 at Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar. to Earnest William & Laura Lamar Benefield Poynor. His twin brother Coy died at birth or shortly thereafter. May 22, 1940 he married Euneva Lucretia Kidd at Fort Smith where they both resided.

Roy registered for the military draft June 29, 1942 at Fort Smith, Arkansas. He enlisted in the US Navy August 16, 1943 and served until December 18, 1945. Nothing more is found about his service except the 2 Navy muster records below. His bio below gives more detail. His rank was M3c.

Roy Eugene Poynor passed away May 17, 2007 at Charleston, Franklin Co., Ar. His burial was in the National Cemetery at Fort Smith, Arkansas.

Reverend Roy E. Poynor 84 of Van Buren, Arkansas died Thursday, May 17, 2007 in Charleston, AR., He was born and raised in Fort Smith and was a Methodist Minister who pastored churches in Fort Smith, Altus, Gar Creek, Grenades Chapel, Alix Denning, Forrester, Hackett, Arkoma, Charleston, Vesta, North Little Rock, Cherokee Village, Clarksville, Fayetteville, Goshen and Van Buren, where he was pastor emeritus of Heritage United Methodist Church. He was also WWII Navy Veteran and a electrician and a former City of Fort Smith electrical inspector. He was preceded in death by his wife, Euneva Poyner. He is survived by one daughter, Linda Seubold of Roland, OK, two sons, Dr. Roy E. Poynor II of Alma and Rob Poynor of Austin, TX., Eight Grandchildren and Ten Great Grandchildren.
