Joe Presley Meadows was born March 25, 1925 at Lavaca, Seastian Co., Ar. to William Presley & Willie Lee Rankin Meadows. October 7, 1949 he married Gladys Agnes Smith from Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar. His residence was Lavaca.

March 27 1943 Joe registered for the military draft at the Fort Smith Courthouse. He enlisted June 12, 1943 at Little Rock, Pulaski Co., Ar. His discharge date is not known but his obituary below says he swrved 3 years.

Joe passed away January 18, 2011 at Silver Spring, MD. His burial was in the National Cemetery at Fort Smith, Arkansas.

Joe Meadows, 85, passed away on January 18, 2011, in Silver Spring, MD.
He was born March 25, 1925 in Lavaca, Arkansas to the late William Presley and Willie Rankin Meadows.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys and brother, Dale.

He received his Masters Degree in Education Administration from the University of Arkansas. He served 3 years active duty combat in the U.S. Army during World War II. His career included owning a General Store in Lavaca, Principal/Superintendent of Schools in Havana and Lavaca, Director of Job Corps Center in Franklin, NC, and several years with the Dept of Labor in Washington, DC.

He is survived by three daughters, Mary Jo Greenley of Annapolis, MD; Betty Meadows of Montgomery Village, MD and Linda Burbank and husband Gregory of Gaithersburg, MD; one grandson, Justin Burbank of Gaithersburg, MD; sister, Reba Hammond of Charleston; brother, Gene Meadows of Ft. Smith; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 24, 2011 at Edwards Funeral Chapel with burial at National Cemetery in Fort Smith, AR with Military Honors under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home in Fort Smith, AR.
