Andrew James Johnson was born in Barling, Sebastian Co., Ar. September 22, 1922 to Charles Monroe & Nell Mae Elizabeth Mayberry Johnson. He married Opal Fay Kanady April 1, 1943 in Gulfport, Miss. She also was from Sebastian Co. Ar. The date comes from the newspaper clipping about their 50th wedding anniversary. Andrew registered for the military draft June 30, 1942 in Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar. He enlisted in the US Army Air Force October 31, 1942. It is said he received the Distinguished Flying Cross, and Air Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters. I have found no record about that. He was discharged with the rank of SSgt. from the service September 24, 1945. Andrew James Johnson passed away October 14, 2001 at Alma, Crawford Co., Ar and was buried in Mayberry Cemetery at Central, Sebastian Co., Ar.
