Charles Bernard High was born June 28. 1909 at Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar. to Leon Mortimer & Ida Lee Emma Thompson High. His birth date varies from record to record but on the July 14, 1920 Fort Smith census it states he is 1 year old. His father, Leon, was a Spanish American War soldier. Charles married Marie Whittle August 3, 1933 at Tulsa, Tulas Co., Ok.. They divorced sometime between 1938 and 1943 when she enlisted in the WAC's. They again married in March 1943 and divorced again January 24, 1947.

Charles registered for the military draft October 16, 1940 at Belle Grove School in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He enlisted in the military May 15, 1944 at Fort Levenworth, Kansas. His civil occupation was "Skilled in building of aircraft". His residence was Sedgwick, Kansas. He served until June 13, 1946. More is found about his service in his biography below.
