Leo Doin Gibson was born Aug 9, 1921 in Arkansas to
General Pinkney & Nila Rachel Teeters Gibson.
Leo signed up for the military draft while living at Hackett, Sebastian Co.,
Ar.
Leo joined the Navy and after training was assigned to the USS Aulick. His first day
on board the USS Aulick was Aug 3 1943 He served as a Seaman 1st Class.
Seaman 1c Gibson was killed in combat Nov 29, 1944 aboard the Destroyer USS Aulick near
Leyte Island, Philippines. On that day the Aulick was badly damaged by 4 Kamikaze planes. 32 of the crew
were killed and 63 wounded which included the commanding officer Commander John Douglas Andrew.
