Paul James Childress
1922-2011


Paul James Childress was born October 20, 1922 at Jenny Lind, Sebastian Co., Ar. to James Delbert & Lillie Belle Hawthorne Childress. He married Verla Jean Holloway. No date has been found.

Mr. Paul J. Childress, of Dayton, Arkansas, died March 2, 2011, in his home in Dayton. Mr. Childress was 88 years old. He was a retired employee for Latchford Glass; and was an ARMY Veteran of World War II, having served in the 3rd Army 5th Division, Company G of the Red Diamond Brigade. Mr. Childress received the Silver Star, 4 Bronze Stars, and 2 Purple Hearts.

Mr. Childres was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Verla Childress. He is survived by one daughter: Paula Murphy of Dayton, Arkansas; two sons: Bart Childress of Downey, California and Jim Childress of Blyth, California; one sister: Deloris Starkey of Little Rock, California; one brother: Art Childress of Fort Smith, Arkansas; five grandchildren: Wendy Trozzi of Fort Smith, Arkansas Brian Hicks of Lyons, Kansas, Scot Childress, James Childress both of Blyth, California and John Childress of Goodyear, AZ; seven great grandchildren; other relatives; and a host of good friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Childress was held on Saturday afternoon, March 5, 2011, at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood, Arkansas. Mr. Childress was laid to rest at Union Ridge Cemetery in Dayton, Arkansas.
