Virginia Lee Cheek was born July 12, 1916 in either Franklin or Sebastian Co., Ar.
to John Wadle "Jack" Sr. & Bertie Lee McIntosh Cheek.
April 7, 1938 she married William Harris Kidd in Sebastian Co., Ar.
November 5, 1943 they were divorced. February 15, 1948 she married
Doyne Burns at Polk County, Ar. Both were residents of Fort Smith,
Sebastian Co., Ar. at that time.
Virginia enlisted in the Women's Army Aux Corps December 17, 1942 at
Little Rock, Arkansas. Her active duty began January 25, 1943 her rank being
Aviation Cadet. She states on her enlistment that she had completed 4 years of
high school and her civil occuption was Telephone orperator. She served until
December 19, 1945. Her last rank was Sgt.
Virginia Lee Cheek Burns passed away October 13, 1997 with burial
at Fort Smith National Cemetery, Fort Smith, Ar.
