Vincent Aloys Borengasser

Vincent Aloys "Barney" Borengasser was born April 22, 1923 in Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar. to John Herman & Katherine "Katie" Michely Borengasser. April 18, 1944 he married Alice K. Hough at Fort Smith, Arkansas.

June 30, 1942 Vincent registered for the military draft at St. Louis, Missouri. November 3, 1942 he enlisted in the US Air Force at Little Rock, Ar. He stated that he had completed 4 years of high school and his civil occupation was Electrician.
In his wife's obituary it is mentioned that .... "She started her married life with her husband of 50 years, Vincent "Barney" Borengasse in Frederick, Oklahoma where "Barney" was a link trainer flight instructor in the Army Air Ccrps."

The term Link Trainer, also known as the "Blue box" and "Pilot Trainer" is commonly used to refer to a series of flight simulators produced between the early 1930s and early 1950s by Link Aviation Dev. When World War II broke out, Link trainers proved their value as more than 10,000 trainers were used to train 500,000 Allied pilots. The Link Trainer is a significant contributor to the development of aviation. The Link Trainer provided a means to train pilots in realistic conditions without sacrificing their safety.

Vincent served until December 7, 1945.

Vincent Aloys "Barney" Borengasser passed away February 18, 1994 in Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Arkansas. His burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery there.
