Delbert Troy Been was born January 21, 1922 in Fort Smith, Sebastian Co. Ar. to James Harlen, . & Lillie Beatrice Parker Been. After serving in the US Army during WWII He married Stephanie Halina Kostrzwoski of Chicago, Illinois June 23, 1945 in Vigo, Indiana.

Delbert registered for the military draft and enlisted in the US Army Field Artillery January 6, 1941 according to his enlistment papers but he is found on Army Air Corp records receiving air medals. ............... On 07/08/1944 he was awarded the Air Medal (AM) Oak Leaf Cluster (OLC) and is 2LT from Fort Smith AR
After the war he made his home in Chicago, Ill. where he passed away November 6, 1979. He was buried in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield, Sangamon County, Illinois.

Source: Times Record. Fort Smith, Arkansas. 18 Jun 2009. Ralph Paul Smoot, 85, of Greenwood died Wednesday, June 17, 2009, in his home. He was a retired Army veteran of World War II.

Graveside service was held on Friday at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.

He is survived by his wife, Wilma; six daughters, Becky Moore, Linda Dunn and Diane Smoot, all of Greenwood, Judy Johnson of Huntington, Janie Wilhite of Muldrow and Ursula Boob of Germany; a son, Randy Smoot of Muldrow; 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
