John Alverson, no middle name or initial, was born January 21, 1911 at Barling, Sebastian Co., Ar. to
William Dixon & Martha Tennessee Taylor Alverson. November 5, 1938
he married Anna Coleman from Braden, Leflore Co., Oklahoma. The marriage was
in Sebastian Co., Ar.
His draft registeration card dated October 16, 1940 at Belle Point School in
Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar. says "Four years naval service 1934-1938".
His residence at that time was Fort Smith. Another document says he also served
March 31, 1942 - April 6, 1946. He again enlisted September 16, 1950
and served until October 25, 1950 during the Korean War. All of his service
was with the US Navy and he had the rank of Mm1, Machinist's Mate First Class.
His marker at the National Cemetery in Fort Smith, Ar. only says WWII.
John Alverson passed away August 5, 1989 at Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar.
His residence was in Arkoma, Oklahoma.
His burial was in the National Cemetery at Fort Smith, Ar.
