John Thomas Amis
1847-1888
John Thomas Amis was born July 21 1847 in Oglethorpe
Co., Ga. to Lewis & Mary Jean Dean Amis.
He married Rebecca Ruth Hogan in 1868.
Sometime before 1880 they moved to Franklin Co., Ar. then
moved on to Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar. before John's death.
In 1905 Rebecca applied for a Widow's pension from Sebastian
Co., Ar. She is found in a Fort Smith City Directory in 1911 as a
widow.
John served in the Civil War as a Private in Co. B 1st Ga Cav
on the confederate side. Nothing more is known about his
service.
John passed away August 22, 1888 in Sebastian Co.,
Arkansas. His burial was at Oak Cemetery in Fort Smith,
Sebastian Co., AR.
