Ancestors of Jiles Thomas (JT) Walker who bought land in Waldron in 1903
where his descendants live to this present day.
Brothers Charles C. Walker and John C. Walker were 2 of the 13 children of William Walker and Betsy Culbertson.
My line is from Charles C. Walker who is the father of JT Walker.
Their father William Walker was the oldest child of Thomas and Elizabeth Walker. William Walker was born July 16,
1788 on the Nolachuckey River 8 miles from Greenville, Greene Co., TN. The Nolachuckey River was the boundary between
North Carolina and the Cherokee land in 1772. William Walker married Elizabeth (Betsy) Culbertson on December 24, 1810
at the age of 26 in Russell, now Scott Co., VA by William Wills, a Baptist preacher. Elizabeth (Betsy) was born on April
29, 1792 in Guilford, NC. She was the daughter of James Culbertson and Mary Kilgore. She was 18 when she married William
Walker. These dates are from the record of William Walker as printed in the book by Olga Jones Edwards and Izora Waters
Frizzell (E&F) titled The Connection in East Tennessee.
Charles C. Walker
Charles C. Walker was born on January 4, 1816 in Tennessee. He was the 3rd child of William Walker and Elizabeth
�Betsy� Culbertson. He first married Hetty Murphy. They were married about 17 years and had 7 children. His 2nd wife
was Sarah A. They were married about 14 years and had 5 or 6 children. Twin babies Moses and Aaron died. Charles died
on September 10, 1866 in SC at the age of 50.
Here is a picture of a portrait of Charles C. Walker with his grandsons (sons of Jiles Thomas Walker) standing in
front of his portrait. (William Thomas �Tom� Walker on the left and George Albert Walker on the right.) I think Tom
looks like John C. Walker. My Grandpa George Walker looks more like his mother�s side of the family (Gibson).
I am trying to find the grandchild of William Thomas �Tom� Walker who might have this portrait in their possession
to see if I can get a better picture of this portrait or any other pictures they might have. I contacted Tom�s daughter
Ora Lee and her daughter Doris. They said Mike who died recently (March 2011) had this portrait and most of the family
pictures. If anyone in the family sees this article please contact me.
John C. Walker, pictured above, was born on October 25, 1817. He was the 4th child of William Walker and Elizabeth �Betsy� Culbertson.
At age 19 he married Mary Ann �Polly� Myers on January 19, 1837. He died on November 25, 1897 in Townsend, Blount Co.,
TN at age 80.
I have corresponded several years ago with Rhonda Jones who is also a Walker family researcher (where I got this picture
of John C. and his wife).
