Martin Jansen was born May 16, 1830 in
Aix-La-Chapelle, Germany. He married Elizabeth Peters who was
from Helmond, the Netherlands. Prior to immigrating to America,
they lived in Scheirwaldenrath, Aachen County, Germany, with
their six children: Peter Joseph Jansen, b. 19 Feb 1862; Johanna
Cornelia Jansen, b. 24 Feb 1865; Lambert Jansen, b. 22 Aug, 1867;

The Jansen family immigrated to America
in the spring of 1881, where they made their home in Randolph
County, Arkansas. Martin established the first brick kiln in
Pocahontas where he and his four sons were employed.
Pictured is the Martin Jansen family in front of their
home which was located on Sandhill. Adults identified from left:
Lambert Jansen, John Jansen, Wilhelm (Will) Jansen, Martin Jansen
(seated), Elizabeth Peters Jansen (seated), Barbara Jansen
Blissenbach, Mary Wyllie Jansen and Peter "Joe" Joseph
Jansen. The children pictured belong to Joe and Mary Jansen.
(Identification of Lambert and Will might be reversed, as family
members remember Uncle Lambert as being a huge man, requiring a
special casket be made when he died. Uncle Will was said to be
tall and thin.)
Pictured above is Martin Jansen with grandson Martin
Joseph Jansen, born 6 Jan 1895 in Pocahontas, Randolph Co, AR.
The Younger Martin was the son of Peter Joseph and Mary Ann
Wyllie Jansen.
Pictured are Martin Jansen with his son, Lambert, on a
bridge. The bridge on which the men are standing is not known,
but notice what appears to be near flooded land in the
background. Martin died 6 July 1915 and his son, Lambert, died 2
March 1918. Both are buried in St. Paul's Cemetery, Pocahontas.
